  1. @jabbott It would be easy enough to find out online, but from what I understand the same rule applies. You cannot claim back costs on your wedding. It's considered services completed within the country you're visiting. It's only on goods that are returning with you to your country of origin.
  2. I agree with @calgarybride2015 Reach out to your TA and see if they can help, or phone the resort and ask for a manager. I remember getting frustrated when we were dealing with Jamaica and I went out and bought a $10 international phone card and phoned the resort directly. It took about 15 minutes on the phone and I got questions answered and some things finalized. It's correct though - the WC's are so used to doing this stuff that they take it all in stride. But having said that definitely you should at least have ideas on your choices if not the choices completed. Otherwise you can't pay if you don't know what the amount is. Good luck! We've stayed at Catalonia Royal Tulum and really liked it. It was a great resort and we were there at a time when it was only 50% occupied so no lineups or overcrowding for anything. We leave in two and a half weeks!!
  3. @deecol Same here Dee. Looking forward to it!! Really hoping the room works out too! I think it will.
  4. @@deecol lol that's a fab idea!!! oh lord Doug would have my head... Ok - just trying to see how many we are for Friday. I think 8 but just checking: Me @@Meandhim @@veryvalentine @@deecol @@diadiamond @ @@snswedding2016 @@krystalball Am I missing anyone?
  5. Its too bad we cant Skype for part of the night! That would be cool! I'm actually anxious to see the cake topper on too, all put together. Doug hasn't seen it yet. That's a surprise. He wanted to know why we needed coloured straws.... lol All I had to say was "because" and I got the eyeball roll lol I wasn't expecting the garter to be quite so bright! lol Don't get me wrong - when you actually see it she did a beautiful job but yeah.... somehow I don't think it will go under my dress.
  6. Oh duh. Sorry - it has been a long day. I think it's time to sleep.... lol That's a good date though. Right before my birthday!
  7. Sorry I've been MIA the last 2 weeks. I've actually managed to squeeze in 3 job interviews, been offered a job and turned it down! We're down to less than 3 weeks until we leave for Mexico and 3 weeks today is our anniversary, and Joyce has told me not to panic! lol I have no idea why... Me? Panic? Not at all, except that life gets in the way and there just aren't enough hours in the day! Other than that, it's all good! I'm still walking around with no wedding band. A bit of drama over that and they're now saying this Thursday. I thought it was so simple and that I wasn't asking a lot. I just wanted my wedding band properly sized, the guards removed, my new ring the right size and then solder all 3 together to make one ring. Not so simple. We went to pick it up and they still had it in 2 pieces, with the guards back on my wedding band! Not good. So they're trying again but it was supposed to be ready this past Saturday, then today and now Thursday. Uhh yep. Panic is setting in. Dress fitting is this Saturday and I'm absolutely up for that. The weight I wanted off isn't. So I'm on the hunt for spanx. Yuck. I had to go shopping on the weekend for a strapless bra as if that wasn't bad enough! But it's done. The sides of the dress are see through so I really had to be careful what I got but hopefully it works. Guess we'll soon find out. I have all of my bags, my jewellery, blue shoes, chair sashes and tablecloth and a couple of other bits and pieces at our son's in the US but getting a visit scheduled to pick it all up has been more drama. I wanted so much to try to get the trailer out for the thanksgiving weekend just for a rest up before the madness but that fell through and we are now going to the US and attending birthday parties for a to be 9 yr old and a to be 5 yr old. Oh joy. I love my grandsons to death and could squeeze them til they pop if they'd let me but when it comes to their birthday parties.... step aside and get out of the way. They're boys after all and rowdy just does not begin to describe it! Thankfully it's only for 2 of the days of the long weekend and we get to be home for the holiday. Peace and quiet. And packing, and guest bags, and whatever else needs to get done. And then we'll be 6 days from leaving! I ordered a few things from Etsy that finally arrived. I found a garter shop that intrigued me and here is the result. Doubt I'll get to wear it under my dress since the colours are so bright but that's ok.... there is always the nighttime..... lol Our cake top arrived too. I had to leave it wrapped otherwise I'll never get it re-wrapped so I don't know if you can make out the details. But I absolutely LOVE it!! It's absolutely what I wanted and definitely so Doug and I. We're only (hopefully) about 5 years from retiring so this cake top is all about us. Sorry the pics are so bad but it's hard to get them through the cellophane that they're wrapped in. One chair with pink flip flops Second chair with brown flip flops The bottle of beer and glass of wine. The Etsy seller even include a bit of glue to stick the bottle of beer and glass of wine to their respective chairs and the flip flops get put right beside the chairs once it's unwrapped. I also found some coloured paper straws. I found a website called Weddingstar. For those of us in Canada, they're located in Alberta so you pay Canadian shipping and prices. They've got a pretty decent sale and if you're looking for BM or GM gifts they have a couple of ideas, along with the usual cake top stuff and a few reception accessories. Looking forward to the GTA ladies night on Friday! We'll have @@snswedding2016 back from Azul Fives and @@diadiamond back from her Cuba wedding so lots to talk about. And that's it for now except I need to get my butt in gear and get my printing done of our beautiful menus, the door hangers and my bag toppers. Like I said - not enough hours in the day....
  8. @LindseyRose I think generally it's because most of the ladies here that make the decision to have a dw don't want to go inside for any of it. It's likely used as a back up plan for rain, but generally an outdoor reception goes hand in hand with a dw. As well, by the time you sit down in the evening for dinner and do your dancing, the temps have dropped a bit and it's not as bad as during the day, especially if you happen to be on the beach for your reception.
  9. Heartland is right around the corner from me and I also get into the one up on Argentia & Winston Churchill. Too many Michaels stores close by! Oh yeah - and the one in the US where we go. That one is really an ouch! I think the taco bar is a super idea! I'm sure everyone will love it! I'm with @@calgarybride2015 I LOVE tacos! And chips. But it's and easy way for everyone to have fun with food and that kind of thing really lets people interact. All of your DIY ideas are so great!! The glass is so pretty. I have the same table lanterns! lol We're such a small group I only needed two. We had our AHR two weeks after we came home and it worked out perfectly so your timing will be great with a week. We just couldn't get the venue we wanted until the second week after, otherwise ours would have been a week after as well. We're doing the vows because the regular ones don't fit for us, but I already know I'll be bawling. I read some of the cards I get from Doug and I cry so vows..... well I already know I'm in trouble lol Thank god there will only be 4 people watching me make an idiot of myself! lol
  10. @@Soon2bmzbrooks Your day is coming up quickly! Hope it's everything you wanted and more!
  11. um I have a curiousity question. What is your wedding date? I went back and took a look and can't find it anywhere. Anyway, I was just curious. Definitely don't budge on the tables. He'll understand when he figures it out. Congrats on all the bookings! You'll have a good group. Don't worry about ACV - they like to sabrerattle because they can. You threaten to take your business elsewhere and your TA will fix it. I totally agree with @calgarybride2015 I would definitely go dress hunting very soon! They absolutely can take up to 6 months. They usually don't but again the salons like to worry you unncessarily lol But I wouldn't wait too much longer. Having said that there might be sales on right now since fall 2016 will be out soon.
  12. I'm a Jamaica bride and used Tai Flora. The site here for the resort we were at was about half and half Jan's and Tai and it really just seemed to depend on what you wanted. I've seen some unfavourable comments about Tai lately and it's too bad because I had excellent service from them and don't regret using them at all. I will say this - people in the wedding business in Jamaica don't seem to stay put very long and that may be the reason Tai is having customer service issues now. From the time I started to plan until just after we got married in 2011, the resort went through 4 planners and they have all gone to other resorts. I think they just go where they're getting a better offer.
  13. lol aww thanks ladies. Sometimes I really feel old! i always seem to pick different things!
  14. @@Wafflesmom Where did you find the napkins? I love the colour! And the ring holders too!! Both are so pretty! Our stuff is plain white, although I did get a long runner since we have just the one rectangle table, but napkins might be pretty.
  15. I am also a Jamaica bride. We didn't have a DJ since it was only the two of us but I used Tai Flora for our flowers and had no issues with them at all. I've heard recently that some ladies are really having a problem with getting them to respond but I have to say I had no problem at all. We used the store in Ocho Rios and they were great! Good luck and happy planning!
  16. Shoot I'm always the odd one out. I really like the first one. To me it's just so neat and elegant. I love the colour!!! Love the suit! Beautiful cut! And a coral tie will look great!! Doug also ended up in gray but just jacket and pants. His shirt is white and his vest and tie are tuquoise. I thought for sure he would take the tan but when he tried everything all on he liked the grey better. Works for me. The gray goes with both pink and turquoise so it's all good!!
  17. @@deecol I did buy the dress in navy just to wear. I fell in love with the style and I love how it fits. I just got it back yesterday from being hemmed and I'm taking it to Mexico to wear for dinner. We have a dress code for dinner and I love to dress up so the dress works perfectly. It's definitely one that can be worn again for the ladies that want their bridesmaids to wear it! @@deecol I love that colour you picked! I actually just bought it for my son's gf to wear for our renewal in the pale pink. She loved the picture of it so hopefully she likes it when it arrives. Love your flowers! They're really coming together beautifully! I agree with @ about adding some greenery. I think it would round it all out nicely and it will be gorgeous!
  18. @@Meandhim wow things are really coming together! Love the tags. They turned out great! How did the dress fitting go?
  19. Hi! Welcome to BDW! You've come to the right place for information! The ladies here are great and always ready to pass on tips and suggestions. I've never been to Playacar Palace but I just did an internet search and made it very specific. I typed in Playacar Palace Momo Terrace, then same thing again but with South Solarium. Each time it brought up a specific photo of that spot. I don't know if that will help you or not but it might help narrow things down. Good luck!
  20. Love the card holders and the picture that you put on the card. Really pretty! And nobody will notice the different colours! They turned out perfect! Glad you're there safely! Definitely take pics. Would love to see it. Three weeks from now I will be in Mexico too! Enjoy! Absolutely want the report next Friday when you're back!!
  21. I'm a bit late but I was thinking about you on Thursday! I hope you had an amazing wedding day and that it was everything you hoped for and more!
  22. I definitely would love some feedback on Costa Rica - it's one of the places we're looking at to retire to! I think you'll love it and that's awesome that you found a flight directly from Cancun! I love that dress! It's so pretty and a beautiful colour! I looked at the site and they definitely have some nice stuff!
