  1. @@Wafflesmom Really? Sure?? Do you know what it's called? I've never bought it in my life (sheltered, I know lol) Kim suggested it a while back when I ordered my necklace because she said it will turn with the weight so I was going to look for it. But now the seamstress has suggested it as well to keep the one strap in place. I don't know the first thing about it. Totally clueless I know!
  2. Definitely post dress pics pls with your shoes. We don't leave until sunday..... (hint hint)
  3. @@calgarybride2015 @@deecol @@RivieraBride15 @ Thank you ladies. I'm really happy with it. Compared to the other dress, this one has no weight even though it's satin. If anything, it has a bit more weight now because of the lace she added. It just gives it some form if that makes any sense and I really like what the lace has done to it overall.
  4. Aww shoot! This would have been perfect for us! Wish it had run earlier in the year!!! There will be some very happy brides for sure!!!
  5. I'm an October Jamaica bride and we had spectacular weather the week we were there. We had a brief shower - about 15 minutes - on our wedding day but other than that, it was fabulous. On the flip side, we're renewing our vows next week in Mexico (Riviera Maya) and the forecast looks horrible. But we've been warned that radar picks up humidity as rain. It can't distinguish so we're hoping that's what is being picked up for next week. No matter what you make the best of it and enjoy it! We had a fabulous rate on our package because it's October so definitely worth it.
  6. I know a lot of the brides-to-be here do their "legal" ceremony at home first, before they do their destination wedding but for those that don't and for all the years I've been here I have yet to see a bride married internationally that came back and said her marriage wasn't legal. As @TA Patty said, it would only be if the proper paperwork wasn't filed but I think the odds of that are extremely low. The resorts really seem to know what they're doing when it comes to the destination weddings! Good luck!
  7. No - I really don't like spaghetti straps much, and i still wanted my shoulders covered. i like what she did withe the lace. Strapless just doesn't look really good on me. I have a strapless dress I'm taking to wear for dinner but I have a shawl/wrap to wear with it. I have one shoulder lower than the other so one strap still isn't sitting right, which is why i have to find the two sided tape - for my necklace and for the dress strap.
  8. Alright. Here it is. Finished. ROFLMAO I'm still a bit bothered by that one sparkle that just seems to be in a really funny spot.....
  9. Hey Kim. The bags are Gemline totes that I ordered through Sassy. Deal Rack also does them but I found Sassy to be cheaper. I think they were $3.46 per so since I only needed a few I think the total was around $30 with tax and shipping. I got 8 and had them shipped to my US address. Shipping was next to nothing. Question - where do I get that 2 sided tape to hold the necklace in place? I have one strap on my dress that still slips a bit so the seamstress suggested the 2 sided since we're out of time for altering.
  10. That's the same with us. We're outside on a rooftop terrace and we're doing buttercream. They shouldn't be leaving your cake outside for hours anyway. No food should be left outside for hours in the heat. I would try and push the issue a bit like @@calgarybride2015 said. For your cutting and photos I can't see why it shouldn't be fine. 11. Well I picked up my dress last night. I'm really happy with it. She sparkled up the straps and added lace cutouts to hide the bustle clips. Surprisingly it's a single layer of satin, no crinoline, no tulle, nothing. But it took 5 clips to put the bustle in place. Doug also picked up his suit last night. Wow the turquoise looks really nice with the Grey. It would have been so nice to have my son there too in his grey and pink but whatever. I have my Skype call at lunch time today to finish up last details. Web added photo and video time since my son was going to be with us, just to get some nice family shots but now I think it makes sense to cut the time. I can't see needing 6 hours of photo time now and 3 hours of video. I can't believe we leave in 2 days. I can't wait to get away for a week and just leave everything behind. I have photos of my dress but can't upload from my phone. Not sure why but I'll post a couple in Ina little while. Playing catchup here myself too. Thank you ladies for all the support. You all really are wonderful, sweet young women and I wish nothing but good things for all of you as you move forward with your lives and this exciting new chapter of it. I was so looking forward to having my son with us but for whatever reason it isn't to be. Yes - with everything we've been through I really wonder about the angel on my shoulder sometimes and why things are the way they are. But it is what it is. Our anniversary will be a little bittersweet with Ryan not being there but you are all right - it's about Doug and I and the fact that we get to continue our lives together. We're very nearly didn't get that chance. Thank you again for reminding me that it's what's important. I know you've all been through worse things with your guests so I need to count myself lucky!
  12. The good thing is that Amazon has reasonable shipping rates. I got a bit of a knock up the side of the head today and have spent a good part of the day either in tears or close to it. After all the work I've done and money out, my son has cancelled his trip with us. He has a passport issue that doesn't look like it can be fixed before we leave. This is a time when it's really hard to be a parent. He's 33 yrs old - just like a lot of you ladies - but he's a kid that just doesn't want to grow up. I wish he had come to me months ago and maybe we could have sorted out the problem. He was cocky enough to opt out of cancellation insurance so now not only is he not travelling with us but they both lose the chunk that they paid out. We had both of them counted into our restaurant stuff. And so many more things. I haven't seen him in a year so we were going to get some family time even though they were at a different resort. As a mom I can't get my head around it. Doug is fuming about it and rightfully so. We're going out to Vancouver next month and had planned to spend some time with him while there but at this point I don't even want to see him. I just absolutely do not understand paying out the amount of money that they have, plus what I put in and doing all of this planning all the while knowing there was an issue with the necessary documents. I know we did stupid things when we were young but something like this is just beyond me being able to understand. Doug has been great tonight. He knows how upset I am but he just sits and shakes his head too. Being a parent is really hard sometimes.
  13. I know we've already messaged a few times this morning but happy wedding day anyway!! I hope it's absolutely fab and you get a ton of photos that you'll post!!
  14. Umm why can't you have a buttercream cake? We're doing our renewal next week and having dinner on a rooftop terrace and having a buttercream cake. I HATE fondant with a passion and like you I want to eat all of my cake. Not leave the fondant frosting behind lol So we're doing buttercream. Don't know who told you you couldn't but I'd ask why not? lol
  15. Yes - I'll dig it up. We have it fully loaded with still room to spare and Doug says it's 42 lbs so still LOADS of space to take things! lol Oh I'm so glad you came back for a visit!! How's married life and your new house?? Are you all settled in now? We miss you here!! And thanks for being so sweet! Hey Steph - here's the link that should work I think. If not let me know. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003K4U2F6?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00 We bought the blue one so it will stand out on the luggage carousel. I wanted the pink lol but I knew darned well that there is no way in heaven that Doug would travel with a great big pink duffle bag!!
  16. I hope so! That would be so much fun! Sent from my SGH-I337M using Tapatalk
  17. @Wafflesmom I'm so far behind! Aack! Don't know where the time goes! I'm so sorry you're dealing with this friend stuff as well. I hate seeing you ladies go through it. As you said - you want to be happy for someone but it's hard when it hurts your own happiness. I'm sure things will work out. it isn't easy I know to find people to make the trip I think even more on a replacement basis. It's almost like they know you're scrambling for a warm body! Love the earrings and bracelet and that hairstyle is totally WOW!!! I really love it!! it will be gorgeous on you!! Sometimes when guys make comments, you really know why you fell in love with them. (not all the time mind you lol) Something simple like walking doggie can be a great thing to put stuff in perspective! hugs!!!
  18. @RivieraBride15 Nobody can tell you how much to tip so absolutely if you feel a good tip is well deserved, then go for it. If the service has left something to be desired, then that's one of the ways to let them know is through the gratuity. Thankfully I've had the opposite situation and mine has been a complete and total success! 5 days today!! lol You're close too! I'm getting excited just to get there. The renewal is a bonus of the trip lol Now I'm ready for sun, sand, and drinks!!!
  19. Thanks ladies! 5 days to go and one week today for our renewal! And of course I broke TWO nails!!! It couldn't be just one. It had to be TWO!! So now I have to get them filled because they look so ridiculous. Oh well. @RivieraBride15 @Wafflesmom Thank you both. The dress actually looks really different now with the shoulders covered, the front closed up a bit and the lace that was added. I meant to get pictures but forgot so I will for sure this Thursday when I put it back on. I'm supposed to be taking it home unless there are a couple of small things. Hoping not because it's all the way out in Guelph and I really would rather not have to go back out there again on Saturday. @Meandhim it's a little mini hand steamer from Bed Bath and Beyond. it was only $25 +tax and it's the perfect size to hold. @@TinkerSofi recommended it in her planning thread and actually posted a pic. I'll see if I can find one and post it. We have one but when I pulled it out of the closet it was much heavier and bulkier than I remembered. The one that I got has it's own little travel pouch too. Actually packing hasn't been that bad. I bought a duffle bag the same as what Marinha had for her wedding in March off Amazon. It was $35 and is perfect for all of the clothes. Soft sided, on wheels with a pull handle and TONS of space. We've packed all of the regular clothes in it plus a few bits and bobs. The dressy stuff will go into the wally bag with Doug's suit. Then everything else will go in a big suitcase. Thankfully we upgraded with Transat to Options Plus and get an extra 10 kg of luggage which means 32 kg each. That's 140 lbs of luggage we can take. Doug says whatever doesn't fit into that amount stays behind lol We also get priority checkin, priority boarding, free seat selection, a bottle of wine and money to buy food on board. They don't give you meals on the Mexico runs anymore. Go figure. You have to buy your food now but we get money towards that with the upgrade. Plus it's a 4 hour flight so no big deal. @ You are more than welcome and it's all deserved. You do some absolutely beautiful work. I can't wait to see it all in our photos. I meant to take pics before Doug packed it up but it was already wrapped when I thought of it and wasn't going to make him undo it all. I got the eyeball roll with the Mr Right / Mrs Always Right and a "yeah right" comment lol I had a text from maybeoneday this morning. Her wedding is tomorrow! Yikes! She said the resort WC got them a skydeck weddng for free! It's only the two of them so very small. I think with all the money they take in the resort can handle that!! I can't wait to see her photos and still hoping we can meet up in Mexico but they fly back to the UK the day after our renewal and it's a long flight so at this point it's not looking good. Fingers crossed! Then we have so many weddings coming up!! You ladies all have to promise you'll come back for visits! I'm going to lose so many brides!
  20. @@cassiadams22 Good luck and be sure to post photos when you get back! We have so many AF brides and it's fun to see everyone's pictures when they get back.
  21. Congrats! You must be so excited! We're the day before you - October 20th. I've been working with an outside coordinator and she has said the weather has been great. The humidity is easing and temps are still in the 90s. Generally when you see a rain forecast, many times it's the humidity in the air that is picked up but the radar doesn't know that it's just humid, and not actually rain. Azul Fives have hosted hundreds of weddings. They will keep you posted on the forecast but usually if it does actually rain, it shouldn't last more than a few minutes. Then the sun comes out again. The resort will give you the option of moving indoors or keeping with your outdoor plans so you'll have the chance to see how the day shapes up and then decide beforehand if you want to move inside. Fingers crossed for both of us, but I think it will all be fine!
  22. @@smfahey Congrats and welcome! You've had a bit of advice already that is right on the money. A TA is definitely a good idea. You don't say if you're in the US or Canada - the packages are put together a little differently depending on where you're from but either way a travel agent will be able to guide you through the maze. One of the other things to consider is whether or not you can have outside vendors and I've heard that the Barcelo resorts don't allow them at all, which means you absolutely have to use their vendors. A travel agent will help you with your must haves and don't wants and also help with your guests bookings and questions, which will leave you free to concentrate on your wedding planning! Good luck!
  23. Congrats! I've seen pics of that property and we almost travelled there a few years ago, and it looks beautiful! Cabo is a great place! Have you tried calling the resort at all? When you say you're waiting for info - you haven't received anything at all? Not your menus, or location confirmations or anything? Generally the WCs will get in touch a couple of months before your wedding but you definitely should at least have received confirmations of some of your details so that your pricing can be calculated. Good luck!
  24. I agree with @@calgarybride2015 I think it's a very personal decision and obviously will depend on how happy you are with the service you get. Definitely the WC if you feel they've helped you, and your wait staff which I think since you're in one of the resort restaurants should be fairly simple to do. Usually you'll get dedicated staff since you're in one of the restaurants. We leave in 6 days and @@calgarybride2015 actually reminded me of one I hadn't thought of.
  25. Aahhh! 6 days until we leave for Mexico! And finally getting organized I think. Quiet thanksgiving for us today after getting back from the US late last night for the grandsons' birthdays. And I got to pick up my goodies too!! Very happy with everything. Well worth the wait! I want to give a shout out to our Etsy bride to be Perian. The talents this young lady has are unbelievable! She did a chalkboard sign for me to take to Mexico that is absolutely gorgeous, and two chair signs - Mr. Right and Mrs. Always Right in beautiful pink. Thank you Perian! And all of this was done with her own wedding only 2 months away! Even Doug was impressed with how the signs turned out and believe me - that's saying something! He's a guy, what can I say! lol But he does like them and has carefully wrapped them up for the trip! So here are the goodies that I picked up yesterday. The little ring box for pictures. I found this Etsy seller that does these beautiful hangers and the only one I found that does the "I Do Again" idea. It's perfect for us and I love the pink flower she added to it. My beautiful Adrianna Papell blue shoes. I love the sparkly bottom. I just need to rough up the bottoms because they're very slippery. Our labels. Love how they turned out. Don't know what I'm going to do with them all since we only have 6 cups but there is a minimum order now required so there will be extras!! My necklace and earrings set. This turned out perfectly! Would highly recommend the Etsy seller! Chair sashes, the table runner and the gold overlay for the table with the cake. Sorry the colours aren't very good in the pics. Here are the rest of the goodies. The maracas. Pink and blue and will go with the white I already have. Each person will get a white and a colour. Our bags. These are so great and exactly what I wanted. Guys will get royal blue and girls turquoise or pink. These were so reasonably priced and the price goes down with more ordered so definitely worth it. I had them shipped to the US but I think it would be worth looking into shipping to canada. I've started putting my oh sh!t kits together. I picked up a bunch of stuff at a store in the US so each bag will have a couple of bandaids, a shout wipe, a small sink pack of Tide, rolaids, pepto, travel bottle of scope, advil, chapstick, emery board for the ladies, a small container of safety pins, Axe for the guys in a travel size, hand sanitizer from BBW, anti-bacterial wipes, aloe lotion. I think that's everything. With only have a few people it was easy to do a bit more. I also have a robe for each of us since we're doing hair and makeup all together and a shower puff. Don't think at this point we'll be adding much more. Doug still has to get something for the guys just to add in but I have no idea what. We're almost there. Anxious to go now. I just want to get there. I did my dress fitting on Thursday night but it was still too long so it needs to be taken up more, the bustle needs to be done and the lace she added as straps needs to be tightened a little. It's not quite exactly what I was hoping for but it still looks awesome so I'm happy with it. I did the dreaded Spanx on the weekend on sale at Bon Ton in the US so that's off the list. I have to go back for my dress this Thursday and Doug picks up his suit so that will be done. I bought the little mini steamer that @@TinkerSofi recommended and it's great! Comes with its own little travel bag and is very lightweight so I think a good investment. On the job front I had 2 second interviews - one Thurs and one Fri so I'm really hoping I hear something this week. It would be nice to come back from Mexico to be ready to start something new.
