  1. Those are absolutely gorgeous dresses!! I'm sure you would find something that would work for you, even WITH curves, and I love the way you say that!! I agree with Jaykay - you end up with something you hadn't expected until you actually try them on. I had my eye on one for months before we actually decided on a date and I left it to the last when I went to try dresses on. I tried about 5 others and one stood out that I really loved. Then I tried on my picture dress and even though it made me tear up it was tough to decide which of the 2. I knew I didn't want satin just due to heat and travel and I knew I did want strapless so that did make it simpler and I also knew since I've done this before no white. Relax and HAVE FUN with it!! It's your wedding girl! You'll find something that will make your heart melt and that you'll look fantastic in. I guarantee it!!!!
  2. I'm getting married at Gran Bahia Jamaica too in November. Check out www.merrickcousley.com He's local Jamaica and his pics are gorgeous and no - there's no restrictions on outside photographers. Congrats on the engagement. In terms of "no fuss" you can't go wrong with Jamaica. I think it's easier than RM. Good luck.
  3. I'm getting married at Gran Bahia too in November and have an outside photographer and all I have to do is pay the day pass. there aren't any other restrictions so I'm not sure where you're getting your info from.
  4. that's cool. it means I'll get to do like a few other brides here have been able to do and creep your wedding!! lol it just means I'll take a little trip down and watch. didn't want to scare you...
  5. Congrats Missy and welcome back. Wow - your dress is gorgeous!!! You look great, both of you and you have my colours!!!! LOL Now I know how mine will look and my FI is wearing almost the same colour too. Your flowers are beautiful - did you use Tai?? Thanks for all the little tips. All good to know. We have at least 2 other weddings same day as us, one immediately before at 1 and one immediately after at 4 or 430. Our's is 2:30 so I can see time being an issue at some point. I haven't been overly finicky about gazebo decorations, but I definitely want them to put sashes on the chairs since I'm paying for them. And yes - we have a cake topper with flowers intertwined so now I know to get them not to put it on too early. We're November so I'm not sure the temps will be as bad as April/May. And definitely I'll get someone in charge now of getting stuff back for us. Glad you had a wonderful day. Your pics are great. Can't wait to see the pros.
  6. welcome! you're the day after me! I'm nov 17th. what time did you get? when do you arrive? I may have family arriving from the UK. he mentioned that the flight is on the 14th, but I'm still waiting for them to confirm. other family from the Midlands (Nottingham) can't make it but have just returned last week from the Decameron just down the road from Gran Bahia and said it was fantastic. their trasnfer bus stopped at our resort from the airport to drop someone off and my cousin said it looks very posh!! I was given a bag for my dress when I bought it, but it's very similar to a man's suit bag. not sure if there is anywhere there to get a sand ceremony or not, and I'm not sure it's worth to order it here and have it sent, but I know Tai Flora (the flower shop) will do one for you if you order it from them for between 45 and 50 BP adn you'd have your choice of colours. as well they'll close it up for you included in that price so you can transport it home. not
  7. I've asked around and googled too about sunset time. according to the world clock site, you're sun will set at between 6:43 and 6:48 pm in July. for those of us in November it's more like 5:30. I've booked our dinner for 7 because we want sunset photos so we should be ok.
  8. Thanks. You've really got us thinking about it now. It looks like it went really well. Did you get the DJ, or just your own music? If you got the DJ, how was his music? Did you get to pick any of it? We have it on hold, but I know we'll have to make a decision soon whether we're keeping it or not. What time did you have from and to and did they actually say ok, you're done. time to close up. I like the idea of the extra cake layer just cuz it looks so pretty and looks great in pictures but we'll be lucky to have 14 so 3 layers would be a heck of a lot of cake... but it really looks nice. I ordered fuschia flowers for ours and I have 2 little silver hearts to wrap the flowers through.
  9. Absolutely stunning!! If my pics are half as nice as these I'll be happy. and they STILL made me tear up!!! lol love mr. george peacock. definitely a cool touch and not something you would ever get from having a wedding/pics here!!! I definitely can't wait to go!!
  10. Fantastic!! They're great!! you rented the gazebo!! how was it?? was it worth the money? did you order "extras" for your cake or is that exactly how it comes?? I've ordered a special flower top for ours but can't get an answer on what's what. what flavour did you get?? it looks like everything went really well and you had a great day!! congrats again!!
  11. omg you actually made me tear up looking at your pics!! they are AMAZING!! for starters. and you just look so great together!! you'd never know you weren't feeling great. you definitely hit the jackpot with the photog that you had. I truly hope I'm as lucky with mine!! the calendar notice I got today says 6 months and 1 week to go!!! yahoo!!!
  12. just an fyi that might help with the decision. november is traditionally what is called "shoulder season" so not really expensive at all. high season most places doesn't usually start until mid-december. you can get some UNBELIEVABLE deals if you can travel up to the week before Xmas especially if you don't mind travelling last minute and have a bit of date flexibility.
  13. Quote:Originally Posted by katelynn Hey Ladies! I am also back from a week in paradise! Like Tris said dont worry mon! haha Everything went as we expected and was amazing. We had our dinner at the Italian and it was very private and the food was DELICIOUS....our guests are still talking about it. Again, if you have any questions let me know. I also met Missy there, one drunken night and she was so nice and beautiful, she was getting married on Sat when I left. This is the only pic I have so far as our photographer said it would take about 4 weeks to get the professional ones, this one was taken from a friend.
  14. yes - that's the name!! did you get to meet with him before hand? I know we won't want anything too religious, but for the sake of a couple of our guests if they go, we'll need a little bit of something thrown in. oh god - if that was me, I'd be throwing up along side him... I've raised kids and I just can't stand being around anyone sick. I'm right in there with them!!!! I don't care about the privacy part. I figure I still have time and maybe I can convince the other half that the italian is a good idea. I saw the pics of the Grill and it looks really nice... and BIG!! that's why I figured it wouldn't be a problem.
  15. Congrats tris... your pic is gorgeous!! sorry to hear you were ill. that always sucks on vacation but even more for your wedding. glad that everything went well. your review is fantastic and it's great to know that GBPJ is so helpful. very reassuring for those of us still waiting for our day... when did you get to meet with the minister to talk about your ceremony? what was his name? Chandlyn gave me something, and now I can't find it, about "Owen", not sure if that's the first or last name but I seem to remember somebody on here some time back talking about him and that he was really great. did any of your guests try the Garden Grill? that's where we're having our reception but I haven't seen much about it here. my FI is not a fan of italian, so it wasn't an option for us but I can't seem to get any reviews of the restaurant... anyway, congrats. glad it all worked out and I hope you're feeling better!!
  16. congrats! isn't it fun to do that part? I've got mine hanging here at home and some days it drives me nuts knowing I still have to wait 6 months before I can wear it!!
  17. double check that you're logged in. I figured out that it just logs you out on its own if you try to stay logged in, and if you're only seeing the reply box without the quote, it's for me generally because I have to sign in again. hope that helps.
  18. oh i like hat one too!! hope you don't mind but I copied it... lol I'm going to go over all of them and put something together that I really like. thanks ladies!!!
  19. This is great!! thanks so much! I'm gonna take a bit from each one and put something together that I like, and then hope the minister will read it.
  20. we share a wedding date! 'cept we're gran bahia principe in runaway bay. don't let the stores scare you. I did my dress and they said it would be in sometime in July - about 15 weeks. ha ha - came in 3!! so now I'm stuck with a dress hanging around for 6 months. not happy about it but nothing I can do. guess I can be thankful I got one...
  21. great questions!! I'm curious now too!! but what did you find to read for the sand ceremony?? we're doing one too, but I never even thought about asking for something. I would have thought of it down there probably.... with not time to do anything about it!! lol
  22. it actually has what they called a sweep train that I wanted to cut off, but my MOH said to keep it and get them just to do the bustle, so I'm not even walking with it down. I'll take it down for pics on the beach but otherwise it's staying up, but I was just thinking about moving around with it on. it's strapless, but it has more layers than I realized. plus I really hope nobody spills anything on it... like beer!! lol
  23. I have a question that I haven't seen anything about here. did anyone change out of their wedding dress after their ceremony or reception to go dancing?? I don't want to but even though I have almost no train on my dress, I worried about hiking around in it. so I think I can finally add something of value here. everyone else seems to have great suggestions. here's mine. for any of you that are feeling especially crafty, we've come up with a way to do our invitations that is saving us a TON of money!! We're a really small group and we just couldnt' justify the price that is being asked for 25 invitations and thank you cards (we don't need any of the other pieces). and we're old school - an "evite" just doesn't do it for me. I found a website that allows you to download templates in Word of invitations. lots of different designs that you can do yourself. you can get a 3 pce or 10 pce set depending on the "extras" that you need - reply cards, etc. we only needed invites and thank yous. the templates can be paid with paypal and they are $15 for the 3 and $29 for the 10 pce. we found a place here in Ontario that will allow you to order beautiful paper in the quantities that you want. you don't have to get 50 or 100 sheets if you don't need that many. and they have tons of beautiful colours. the invitation website gives you examples of wording if you need the help. we're doing thank you cards with a photo so only some are thank you for those that go to Jamaica, then we're doing "Our Wedding" cards with a photo or the ones that can't make it. we figure we can do 25 invitations with a "dinner and reception" insert card and 50 thank you/our wedding cards for about $60 CDN tops. I also found a printer in downtown Toronto that is going to print them for me for about $25. everything we looked at was well over $100 just for 25 invitations. that didn't include anything else so we had to try and be creative. our invitations are cream colour with watermelon colour ink wording with a guava coloured background paper that the cream is glued to in a guava or watermelon coloured envelope (I haven't made the final decision on envelope colour yet). they look pretty slick and keep our "tropical punch" theme!! here's the websites: www.paper-garden.ca www.printable-wedding-invitations.com check them out even just for fun and see what they have. we picked the palm tree invitation and the company changed the ink colour for me at no charge.
  24. wow - those are gorgeous!! great job. you must have had a ton of compliments on them!!!
  25. your pics are great!!! thanks for posting them. love your dress - it's perfect for a Jamaica mon wedding and totally looks good on you!
