  1. You looked gorgeous!! love your dress and it looks to me like your hair turned out just beautiful!!!
  2. Congrats again on being a Mrs.! I'm so sorry some of your things didn't go as well as planned, but as you said, the important thing is you're married! It still sounds like the resort fell a bit short of what you were expecting, which I'm sorry to hear. We had a similar experience with the resort photographers. They took 74 shots and we managed to find a grand total of 9 that we liked from the whole bunch. I'm glad you liked Merrick. Your pictures will be amazing, I'm sure. We thought he was wonderful and would absolutely recommend him to anyone that asks!! Congrats again.
  3. awww. that's really a shame. it's awful when you don't feel well while on vacation. I've had that happen and it's really no fun. there was only one person from here that was there at the same time I was and I managed to just see her walk down the walkway, then I had to run for my trial hair appt. the FI took some pictures though. her colour was aqua too and it looked beautiful. there are only a couple more that I'd like to see the reviews from then I guess I'm all through with this site. I'm the old lady here I think and I'd like to see how you girls make out with your weddings before I sign off lol we're already planning to go back to the resort in October for our first anniversary and have now fallen in love with Jamaica. congrats again! oh - by the way, my son lives in parkwood hills on Meadowlands.
  4. Congrats on the wedding and being Mrs.! your review was terrific and I'm so glad everything turned out so well, and that you were happy with it all. isn't it great? even though our wedding is done I'm still enjoying seeing the reviews of the ladies that have been on this site at the same time as me. I can't wait to see pics! did you see jaykay and creep her wedding? did she creep yours lol I'm anxious to hear her review too. congrats again!!
  5. Congrats on your wedding and very well said. I couldn't agree more with your review having had our wedding on October 20th. Chandlyn is indeed the consummate professional! Be sure and post some photos when you can! It would be lovely to see some!
  6. they do everything for you there. you won't get your marriage certificate right away. we got married in October and just got our certificate last week finally, but they did give us a copy of the register to take with us so that we at least had proof. it just won't work for changing your name. but yes - definitely get certified documents that have to stay in Jamaica with the Registrar. we both had our original divorce decree that we left there, and just kept certified copies.
  7. being in the US you have a lot more options than we have here in Canada. Men's Warehouse has a nice "destination wedding" suit that is fairly lightweight, or Jos. A Bank has a destination style as well and I think their colour selection is better. the other super terrific one, depending on what you want to spend is Tommy Bahama. they have a special wedding section for beach weddings on their website. you might find them a little pricier but so worth it. that's what my husband wore and it was cool and comfortable, plus he picked up 2 other shirts from there at an outlet and wore them for dinner 2 nights that we were doing a la cartes at the resort. good luck!!!
  8. congrats! glad to hear everything worked out so well and you had a wonderful day! we had our wedding in October and all I can do is agree with every single thing you posted!. Chandly is truly the consummate professional and I too have nothing but good things to say about her!! can't wait to see your pics. I looked at Dean Clarke when I was seaching and liked his work, but opted for someone else instead.
  9. there is a website where you can get steel drum wedding music (all songs) that I can give you if you want. it beats paying the $400 for the steel band. it's what we did and they turned the volume up and it was perfect!! or I have the music. just not sure if it would work on email to attach songs.
  10. be very careful if they email you. they use an address that is different from the one that is supposed to be used. I made that mistake twice and both times the email failed. I panicked!! lol but it was just the error in the address. [email protected] or [email protected] these are the ones you should be using.
  11. For the purposes of ID only, pdf your birth certifictates, passports and final divorce decree and send them down by email. they will accept those as your documentation to start you marriage licence process. you will definitely need a copy of your passport notarized that you will take with you to leave in Jamaica with the Registrar of Marriages. they will require an original divorce decree with a seal on it when you arrive there and you will bring the notarized passport copies at the same time. we each had an original birth certificate that we took to our lawyer and he notarized a copy of it and we took those to Jamaica again to leave there for the Registrar, but if what you have is already a certified copy, you cannot certify a copy of a certified copy. you would need to leave the certified copies in Jamaica so take those with you. we just received our marriage licence original last week from an October 20th wedding, but they had given us a copy of the registration to bring home in case there was anything we needed it for but that won't work for changing your name. hope that helps.
  12. someone was asking about the contact info again for the taxi driver Michael Spencer of Spencer Tours & Taxi: [email protected] 876.842.0527 or 876.326.5436 Michael is a true gem and will work with you for whatever you need. his taxi is a bus that will take up to about 25 people and his prices are terrific. if you do contact him tell him the referral came from Doug & Ann that he took to Cranbrook Park for our wedding photos on Oct 20th. he writes down every couple that he does tours for so that if they ever go back to Jamaica he remembers you! we're going back for our anniversary later this year and we'll definitely use him again!
  13. we did look at Iberostar and along with Lady Hamilton and the costs really were higher. we ended up at Gran Bahia Principe and don't regret one single minute. the whole experience was more than we could have hoped for and they really did treat us like royalty. to anyone that asks, I would recommend GBPJ absolutely without hesitation. we ended up being only 2 and it was wonderful.
  14. I hope you have a wonderful wedding day, and a fabulous time in Jamaica. relax and enjoy it! it feels like we've been here for ages at the same time, and now I've been married almost 3 months!! your's is a review I'm anxious to hear and pictures I'm looking forward to seeing!! all the best!
  15. take the flowers that are in the bouquet and the bouts match. if it's roses, you get roses, if it's orchids you get an orchid, etc. but they also have a separate catalogue for bouts, flower girls, etc. the lady's name is Jennivie Wisdom and she is an absolute sweetheart to deal with
  16. Your best bet is to deal directly with the florist and not the resort. Donnalee isn't the best for correct information. The freebies are set and they won't allow you to change, but there are several options available. The resort told me 3 when I asked, but Tai Flora said no, there were several different options. The catalogue I think is dated 2007 or thereabouts and that's the one that they are still using.
  17. busy bee is absolutely right!! I know everyone is excited about planning your wedding and you want people to book, etc. but definitely shop around. AND WAIT!!!! we got married in October, which is low season and we were originally quoted $1600 in January. by the time we actually got a firm booking rate which was closer to April, it was down to $1250 all inclusive (taxes, fuel surcharge, royal upgrade). tour companies want to know well in advance how many of their rooms they are going to have booked so they'll put out prices knowing it's somebody's wedding and if they want a group badly enough, they'll pay the rate. but hang tough. rates for 2013 will not be available until this summer, and even then there's a good chance they'll change. give your guests a ballpark and ask them to start saving ahead of time. we had great success with Marlin Travel. Plus - Jamaica is a lot more expensive than Mexico, and January through to April is high season. you won't get the "deals" at that time of the year unless you're going last minute. as well, GBP has a Royal upgrade. some tour companies give it to you at a better rate than others. we went with Transat which turned out to be a better rate than Sunquest, but Transat only gave you a free person for every 15 booked, but their rates were a lot better! and lastly, rates from the US are always cheaper than Canada, so yes - going from Detroit will be less than Toronto or any other major Canadian city. work with a travel agent. the more in advance you try to push for rates, the higher the rate will be. hold off as long as possible and get an agent that appreciates that it's your wedding and you're trying to get the best possible deal for yourself and your guests!!
  18. there are but they are crappy. take one of your own. you won't regret it. best of luck to you. have a wonderful day and relax and enjoy!!! can't wait to see your review and pics!! all the best.
  19. take your pictures with you! one of the other girls that used to be on here had her hair done very similar. she got married 2 days before we did in October, but her hair looked amazing!!
  20. have an awesome time and a wonderful wedding day!! can't wait to see pics when you return!
  21. the resort flowers are done through Tai Flora and what you see is what you get. obviously you don't have to go with those. there is another florist that a number of brides here have used and depending on what you want the prices seem to be comparable with both. everyone seems to have been happy with what they ordered whichever one they used. easiest thing is to get a quote from both. I used Tai Flora for ours and was thrilled with what we got, but I ordered what I wanted and didn't use the resort picks. they will give you a $25 credit towards your order if you don't take the "included" choices. we ended up being only 2 of us so all I got was my bouquet and a bout, plus a centerpiece for our reception dinner table and I upgraded on all of them because we had no guests or bridal party and the cost was $200 US. if you backtrack my pics are posted here so you can see what the flowers looked like. the name of the other florist escapes me at the moment, but I know someone else will chime in with it....
  22. sorry - I hit submit and I wasn't ready to. all of the above are unused and tags are still on. I would like $125 for the complete flower girl outfit and if I look around I still have the bills to show how much I actually paid for all of it. the necklace sets were $30 each and the headband was $25 because it's only the single row of rhinestones. the shawl was also to match the MOH dress so its in Guava. the flower girl outfit is Davids Bridal Watermelon with the Guava coordinating sash and flower hairband, the shoes and flip fops are in Watermelon. the dress is size 4 and the shoes and flip flops are child size 11/12. the sash is a one size. you can pm me here if you know anyone that might be interested.
  23. Hi ladies. Well, we're settling into married life now. I can't believe it's pretty much 2 1/2 months since we were in Jamaica and I so badly want to go back!! We loved GBP so much and they went so far out of their way for us it was unbelievable. I think a lot of that is because they took pity on us with all of our plans falling apart and having to change our date. I still would do it all again in a heartbeat!! The one thing that fell by the wayside was the flower girl outfit I bought that my supposed MOH friend returned to me wrapped up as a wedding gift at our AHR on Nov 5th. I will say only that I was heartbroken because never was anything said about returning it. It was a gift so I would never in a million years have asked for it back. But, get it back I did. Not of my own doing. The thing is now I have nothing to do with it. All the tags are still on everything. None of it was ever worn or used so if you know anyone that is looking for a complete flower girl outfit, I've posted pictures. It is so adorable when it's all put together. I also have the necklace and earring sets I bought for my MOH and her daughter. She returned those too, and the silver headband I got for her to wear. There is no reason to keep any of it.
