  1. Hi. For past brides, I really like this resort but I was wondering if anyone every had anybody in their group complain that there was nothing to do. I'd like a visit to this resort but we have friends that have to constantly be doing something. They aren't content to sit by a pool or on a beach for more than maybe one afternoon, which means they will be looking for stuff to do. From what I read about Puerto Morelos it's still a small town and the shopping and nightlife is non-existent. Can anyone help?? thanks!!
  2. it will be a lot cheaper in November than January! not sure where you're travelling from, but November is considered low season, January is prime travel time. our original wedding date was November and it was dirt cheap. we got a price out of Toronto to Jamaica (I know it's not Mexico but Mexico is always cheaper) of $1250 per person all in. we ended up changing our plans and got married in October instead and actually paid $978 all in. I was looking at last minute vacations yesterday to Mexico, and I was very surprised by what the rates still are even for last minute. we have never paid more than $1,000 for any one week all inclusive vacation with taxes but to stick to what we normally book, we would be paying at least $1400 right now and that's booking to leave in the next 2 weeks or so. with the forum I worked with for my wedding in Jamaica, I know there were people paying close to $2000 per person for a January wedding. I know it depends on the resort and so on, but no matter what your rates will be higher in January. good luck! hope that helps.
  3. Hi. I did things the other way around lol I got married in heels, then switched to white "Bride" flip flops afterwards so I was worried about tripping over my dress after the fact. the way they hemmed my dress was a little "shorter" for my heels, which were open toed gold sandals, in the front and shortened the train just a bit so that when I bustled my dress after the ceremony it was a tiny bit longer than the front. it worked ok in that it was short enough that I didn't trip in the flip flops but it was still long enough that it did get dirty around the bottom unfortunately. my open toes showed just a little walking down the "aisle" but still looked nice. if you're doing coloured heels, it should be fine if it's just a tiny bit shorter so that you don't trip while you're barefoot. hope that helps....
  4. A word of advice on Dunns. check to make sure there are no cruise ships in on the day you want to do the Falls because it will be a madhouse. the cruise ships all make it part of their stops, and if there is more than one into Ocho at the same time, you won't get near the place. it's worth the trip from what I hear - haven't been - but the other thing if you want on the same day, go into Ocho Rios for shopping. it's not that much farther. Spencer Tours has a small bus that will comfortably take I believe about 25 people, and I think he also has access to a larger one. he will also set up a tour of whatever kind you want, and he's a great guide as well.
  5. Hi. His name is Michael Spencer and it's Spencer Tour and Taxi. The email is [email protected] and there are 2 phone numbers: 876-842-0527 or 876-326-5436 We thought he was great! Good luck!
  6. We used another guide when we were there that we had recommended to us. he was excellent and very reasonable and will work with you on tours, etc. we had our pictures done at a park off the resort. he drove us there with our photographer, waited while we did our pictures then drove us back to the resort. he also took us into Ocho Rios for the day so we could shop. he recommended stores and an open air market as well for souvenir stuff. we also didn't know it at the time but he followed us at a distance for some of our shopping so that we weren't harassed or anything. he was really great! the resort knows him well too so that was additional reassurance for us. his name is Michael Spencer. I know I posted his contact info earlier on this thread but if anyone is interested I can get the information
  7. wow have they changed the rules? it used to be you could scan and send by email, then bring your originals with you when you get there. that's all we had to do, and we were both divorced. take a look at the company that hosts this site - Wright Travel and Tammy. They're US based and will definitely be able to help out for a Las Vegas departure!
  8. Merrick is fabulous! He did my wedding in October 2011. He is lovely to work with, will contact you very quickly and is pretty reasonable for pricing. He will go anywhere in Jamaica but lives in Kingston. I would highly recommend him!!
  9. I got married on October 20th. we had fabulous weather and a great time. what did you want to know?
  10. prices always drop a month or two before. we booked in august for an october wedding and ended up getting it for $748 + tax. the earlier posts are right about january, february, march but october and november aren't big travel months due to the hurricane season and early december isn't too bad either. it's after december 15th that people start thinking about Christmas trips, etc.
  11. Don't be so anxious to book. I would definitely wait. we're in Ontario and in 2011 our quote was $1250 and everyone had to book by July 8th for a November wedding with Air Transat. Our original date was Nov 17th but our plans all fell apart and we went just the two of us and got married in October instead. We used Marlin Travel in Brookfield Place in downtown Toronto. The rates will definitely come down. I wouldn't worry until at least January of next year for a 2014 wedding, even maybe March, then start asking around to different sellers. You're in BC so I guarantee it will be more expensive. My brother lives in Langley and his quote originally to be at our wedding was $1750 per person. We actually offered to bring him to Ontario on our aeroplan points so that he could have the cheaper rate with everyone else. I find everyone is so anxious to get their rate and they book right away but then the fares drop and they're stuck. Some companies if you book really early will allow you one change if the fare drops a lot to let you rebook at the cheaper fare but not all. Watch the rates this year and see what they are then start telling people it's an approximate price if they need to start saving money ahead of time. If your group is big enough you'll also probably get every 12th or 15th person free and what you could do is spread that money evenly between guests or give the freebie to someone that really can't afford it. or even the bride or groom to save a little money and maybe give yourselves a few little "extras" in Jamaica. Good luck! I've said it before and I'll say it again. It will all turn out just perfect in the end. After the disaster that we went through putting our wedding together, nobody knows that better than me!!!
  12. I used Tai Flora for my flowers. I didn't bring my own however I did smuggle them back home with me because I didn't want to just toss them out after our wedding. Tai Flora were wonderful. Great to wrok with. Jennevie is a little slow to respond but she always got back to me. I did take the time at the beginning to buy a phone card and make a phone call to Jamaica just to be sure everything was ok and it was. no worries at all!
  13. your photos are beautiful and your dress is gorgeous!! and the same minister that married us! I haven't seen anyone different yet so he must be the one that does all the GBPJ weddings. he's wonderful and an absolutely lovely man!
  14. I had hair and makeup done at the spa and I was just fine with it. I had the trial the day before as well. I had every intention of having my hair down but it was so hot I opted at the last minute for it to be up. they use this terrific spray that they call cement so your hair will stay in place. I found the price was reasonable. the only thing I would do differently, and you only have to ask them, is not have quite so much eyeliner. I don't normally wear it and I found with the heat by the end of the day it started to get droopy. to do it over I wouldn't wear any at all. but just make sure and tell whoever does your hair and makeup. they were very cooperative and easy to get along with.
  15. we flew air transat out of Toronto for our wedding in October and all they allowed was putting your dress in an overhead bin. no mention of a "captain's closet". there were 2 other weddings on our flight so I just snagged an overhead and then guarded it with my life for anyone trying to cram anything else in there. the other thing too is that it will steam out in a hot shower once you arrive in Jamaica
  16. It's unfortunate that GBPJ felt the need to enforce the $800 vendor fee in the way that they are. I agree with JayKay. I'm glad we had our wedding back in 2011 and didn't have to pay it. We also used Merrick Cousley and he was so worth it. Our photos are amazing. The sad part is he probably won't get as much business now due to the fee now being charged. I thought as long as your photographer was a paying guest the resort wasn't charging the fee but I guess that has changed too. I will say that I've seen vendor fees being charged at resorts in Mexico that I've been looking at, but they seem to average $500 so the vendor fee isn't something new, just new for GBPJ. good luck to all the brides to be! your wedding day will be fabulous! I've attached a photo of the mixed grill - someone was asking earlier. we had a meal similar to JayKay and it was all good!
  17. Congratulations! you said the exact same thing I said when we returned from our wedding a year and a half ago. I think it's just naturally a stressful time but it's so hard to make everyone understand the attitude in Jamaica. 'irie mon" is exactly it! your dress is absolutely stunning! do you mind if I ask where you purchased it? do they have a website? my cousin's daughter was married last year and she travelled from Nottingham to London for her dress and paid a FORTUNE for it! I nearly died when she told me how much! lol
  18. I was married there Oct 20, 2011 just my husband and I and everything worked out beautifully. We had a reception at home 2 weeks later. Trust the wedding coordinators. They know what they're doing and will make it great even just for the two of you. In fact Chandly and Donnalee signed our marriage licence because we had no witnesses. it will all work out!
  19. you know it might have been me thinking back on it. I do remember there was a bunch of people looking for music at that time and quite a few that didn't want to pay the high rate for the steel band. geez Jayne, it seems so long ago now. we're almost a year and a half! I would so love to go back to Jamaica!
  20. the name of the videographer is Roxroy Gough. his company is RG Weddings and his website is www.rgweddingsii.com If you go to his portfolio, there is a video there called Telley and Tekeya and that is the bride from this site that I got the contact info from. her video is gorgeous and it shows you the gazebo wedding. I think she had her reception at Dolce Vita semi-private too if my memory is correct, plus they did the gazebo rental at night and had dancing down there so the video will show all of it. here is the link but I don't know if it will work or not. definitely well worth looking at if only to get ideas, but a good show of Roxroy's work too. his price has gone up a little but he has a nice package put together for the price. http://www.rgweddingsii.com/index2.php?v=v1#!/2/Documentary_Wedding_Highlight_Videos/2
  21. lol hey! that's the Bob Lyons site that we got ours from too! once you purchase it you can download it to your own computer and then just put on CD whichever ones you want. I still listen to a couple of the songs now and then!
