  1. Not at all! Many of the resorts have their dates book up very quickly, so if you have a specific date in mind, best to inquire early! Even with group rates and room blocks, certain times of the year are more popular than others and the resorts fill quickly! Plus of course you need time to use the BDW site to help you out with tips and ideas, whether for DIY, colour advice, photographers, other vendors. So being ahead of the game is always good! Good luck and happy planning!!
  2. Congrats and welcome to the site! I know you will find all kinds of tips and information that will help you with putting together your DW! Have you considered the Gran Bahia Principe Jamaica? It's in beautiful Runaway Bay and is a kid friendly resort. It's reasonably priced as well for your guests consideration. We got married there and loved it! There is also a new Karisma resort in Negril that just opened. It may be a bit pricey and I'm not completely certain that it's family oriented but it may be worth a look too. As well you can always look up the Resort Reviews and see what other brides have said about the resorts. Sometimes a recommendation is more reassuring than just looking something up yourself. You'll enjoy working with Wright Travel. They are trained professionals in destination weddings! Good luck and happy planning!!
  3. Congrats and happy planning! Yes - you will need to get the final decree notarized and be prepared to leave that in Jamaica. That's what will go to the Registrar so you won't get it back. I'm not sure why but we didn't have to provide it all in advance. I pdf'd everything down first, then brought all the originals when we arrived, including the final divorce papers. But I've read other posts where the ladies had to provide eveything in advance. Check with whichever resort you've chosen to find out how they do things. There don't seem to be too many consistencies in Jamaica! lol ya mon!!
  4. Have to agree with the other ladies. Even bffs can be selfish when all of a sudden there is a wedding involved. But with all the planning and expense involved with your trip, I have to say go! Why the urgency with her wedding? Can she not wait until next year? She would have a better selection of dates if she did. Definitely what you have planned is too important for you to give it up and no friend, bff or otherwise, should expect you to. If she is truly your friend she will understand! Good luck!
  5. I just found this resort in a travel brochure and wow! it looks gorgeous! I don't know how many brides and past brides are still around but has anyone had experience with a very small group (about 8)? We're looking at a vow renewal in October 2015 so I'm way ahead of things, but I know the resorts book up so quickly. I want to make certain that we can renew exactly on the date that I want. does anyone have current info on outside vendor fees? can you change up the flowers at all? what happens if you go off the resort for flowers, besides an outside vendor fee or can you meet them at the front and not pay it? I'm going to back track through pages and read, but anyone with current info, it would be appreciated. Thanks!
  6. This is great that there are quite a few vow renewals! I'm working at October 2015 for our anniversary and I'm pretty much sold on Mexico. It's a place we've been several times and really love. We were married in Jamaica mostly because I didn't want the expense of doing all the translating. We loved the Gran Bahia Principe Jamaica and it's someplace I would recommend to anyone thinking about a resort in Jamaica. But we have been through a lot in a very short period of time and since I'm very lucky to still be here I want to go back to a place that we love and say thank you to the love of my life. We still have a bit more to get through which is why we can't celebrate until next year. I have 4 resorts that I'm really going to have a tough time picking from. The Gran Porto Real in Playa del Carmen and the sister resort The Royal. As well I like what I've seen on here about Playacar Palace so I think I'm going to do the webinar next month. And today I discovered the Grand Palladium Riviera and wow! We're hopefully going to be a small group of about 8 or 10 and I definitely want pictures too! I've been in touch with a couple of the Mexican photographers so far and I really like Cecilia Dumas. Other than that, I know what I want to wear and what I would like to see my husband wear, and that's as far as I've gone. But I still have so much time yet so I'm not in a rush at the moment. Good luck to you other ladies renewing and happy planning. This is a wonderful site for resources and information!
  7. We used Merrick Cousley for our photography. He was wonderful and so easy to work with. His prices were reasonable and he was quick on the replies. I would very highly recommend him! His website is www.merrickcousley.com. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Hi. Not sure where you are but we had no problem getting our sand back from our wedding. I brought my fresh bouquet back too!! It survived more than a week after we got home! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Marlin Travel are great! We used an office here in Toronto for our Jamaica wedding and our experience was excellent! Happy planning ladies!
  10. welcome and congrats! happy planning!
  11. I really like those! Well done! Something to think about....
  12. Well done! You've done a beautiful job! Glad to hear this site was such a big help! Congrats!
  13. Congrats and welcome to the site! I'm sure you'll find helpful tips and ideas here that will help you with your planning! I don't know what you're looking for in a dress, but there are tons of options available that would allow you to buy a dress. I can't say that I've ever heard of dress rental places. It used to be popular years ago, but I think more nowdays it's tough to find. You could check the classified ads section of this site. As well, Davids Bridal has a number of options available that are pretty inexpensive. There is also a great website called: www.preownedweddingdresses.com There are hundreds of options there from used, to new still with tags to sample dresses. Definitely worth a look! I bought my dress and I'm very glad I did. I didn't pay a lot for it - I don't know what your budget is - but I'm thinking that even if you find somewhere that deals with rentals, it will probably cost you just as much. You might need to do a little fingerwork on the computer in order to look but it could be worth it! We're working on a vow renewal for next year too if all goes well! Good luck and happy planning!
  14. Hi Brandon! Congrats on your upcoming wedding! I agree with the others that have suggested South Carolina or Florida. there are spots on the Keys that aren't that expensive. I remember looking into a place in South Carolina - I've attached the link. It's not far from Myrtle Beach so hotel accommodations wouldn't be a problem, and they offer beach locations. Might be worth a look. As well there are always the reviews on this site to take a look through and see if there is something that might work for you. http://www.seasideweddingchapel.com/about-us.cfm Good luck and happy planning!
  15. Being in Vancouver, have you considered the west coast of Mexico? There are some spectacular resorts - Puerto Vallarta, Cabo San Lucas. Dreams has a stunning resort in Cabo. I don't know what the rates are but I'm thinking it would be quite a bit less expensive from Vancouver. You could check out the vendor reviews on this site and see what past brides have to say about some of the resorts. See if any of them might fit what you're looking for. Congrats and good luck! Happy planning! This site is a great resource of tips and ideas!
  16. Hi ladies. I think we should clarify here. Dreams Cancun has been bought by Hyatt. The Dreams Riviera Cancun resort in Puerto Morelos will continue to be an AMR Dreams resort.
  17. Hi ladies, past brides and brides to be. I have a question I'm hoping someone can answer. The PP website sucks for information! What are the sites available for a wedding? I know beach, but what else? Do they have a gazebo, or gardens near the beach, or a sky terrace or rooftop - anything like that as an alternate to the beach? Thanks a bunch!!
  18. Welcome MBK and congrats on your upcoming wedding! Have you checked out the resort reviews to see what other comments there might be about the resorts you're considering? As well, click on the forums and do a search for each resort. I know you'll find several threads about both resorts as well as maybe some other ideas to think about. Plus there is an upcoming webinar on the Palace resorts - just a few weeks from now. It might be worth the wait before doing your paperwork to register for the webinar and get some of your other questions answered. Good luck and happy planning!
  19. I've always wanted to go to Hawaii and Turks & Caicos. someday maybe..... Our next "major" destination will be costa rica, which is where we're thinking of retiring to!
  20. Congrats and welcome to the site! You will find a wealth of information, tips and ideas to help you with your DW planning! Don't forget to check out the vendor and resort review forums too! Good luck and happy planning!
  21. where are you in downtown? I'm at University & Richmond but able to get anywhere in the Path
  22. Congrats and welcome! You'll find tons of information and resources on this site! Happy planning!
  23. Congrats and welcome to the site! You'll find tons of planning ideas and tips to help you with your DW! Perhaps one of the agents can help you out with information on the resort you're looking at! Wright Travel is a first class destination wedding agency so I'm sure they've got info that will be useful! You can also keep checking the forums and searching the resort you're interested in, as well as the Resort Reviews section to see if a past bride has reviewed the one you're looking at. Good luck and happy planning!
