  1. You have a terrific group of destination wedding experts right here! Wright Travel! They'll be able to help you with what you need, and they also have access to great benefits because of the resorts they work with!
  2. Hi. A piece of advice from an old lady... stop stressing! Planning a destination wedding really isn't all that difficult. You're in Toronto so I think it's a bit harder for Wright Travel to help you out since they are US based. If you want a name, I have 2 that I can give you both of which I've used. One for our wedding in Jamaica, and one for other travel but they're both great. First of all, you've decided the where. That's step 1. You've also decided the when. That's pretty much step 2. What about your budget? I'm not sure where you are in Toronto but you need to get a travel agent to help you out with your trip details. It will take the stress off you when it comes to your guests planning their trip. They don't charge for their services. That would be your next step. But, I was just told yesterday for the date I'm looking at in October 2015 they don't even have rates yet and won't until this summer. So, since you still have a lot of time, there isn't much you can do in terms of getting your travel costs. Have you done a guest list? That would definitely be a good step to take. Figure that a lot of the people you invite won't make the trip so be prepared for that. Do you know what colours you want? Something else you can look at. Do you know who your attendants will be? Does your FI have his best man? How good are your DIY skills? There are tons of ideas on this site that you could look at and figure out if they interest you. And of course, there's your dress. Have you started looking through magazines or online to see what style you like? You could be looking at pictures of bouquets if you want and trying to figure out what you like. What about doing online research on your resort? Do you know what's in the area, or if you want to set up any kind of excursions for your guests? If you're anxious to be doing something, there are lots of small things you could be doing just to put your mind at ease. But given how much time you still have, I would say the best thing is to relax!!! As Tammy said the wedding coordinators at the resorts know what they're doing and will help you put together a day that you'll remember for the rest of your life! And it will all be wonderful!
  3. What an absolutely awesome job with your journal and all of your DIY work! Incredible, and just beautiful! Congrats too on the new little one! You have definitely given some of the site's brides to be some inspiration!
  4. Hi to all brides (and grooms) I had an email today and Vistaprint is offering 25% off your order. They do ship to the US. The site is www.vistaprint.ca With so many DIYers on this site, Vistaprint is a fun way to personalize so many things for your DW. Invitations, tshirts, tote bags, menu cards, thank you cards. You can upload a photo if you like to add to your design, and they do have designs specifically for destination weddings. When you're trying to put all this stuff together, 25% off is not chump change so I thought it was worth passing the information along! Happy planning!!
  5. Congrats and welcome to the site! Have fun with it and happy planning! Just something to maybe ease your mind a little. The WCs at the resorts are always busy with brides whose wedding is very close. It's a little frustrating but as your date gets closer you will be much more in communication with them on details! Try not to stress. It will be beautiful and you'll wonder why you ever worried! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  8. Congrats and welcome!! From everything I've read you've picked a beautiful resort! If you use the search bar in the Forums tab with 'Moon Palace' you'll get several threads on the resort and can read through and see what other brides have experienced. As well, your site host Tammy and Wright Travel are holding a webinar next month on the Moon Palace resort, which would be a great time to get your questions answered right from a resort rep! But the spots full up fast so best sign up soon if you're interested! Good luck and happy planning! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  10. We got married Oct 20th in Jamaica and had our AHR on Nov 5th so 2 weeks. It was actually easy peezy. The restaurant we worked with were fantastic and a huge help so no stress there at all. We sent out the invites before we even left to get married because we needed an idea of the count for dinner. I'm on the side of not waiting too long after your wedding but that's just me. I know the winter makes it difficult plus holidays, etc. And we had a local photographer because I wanted the family pics that we missed out on in Jamaica, since it was just the 2 of us when we got married.
  11. you know if you don't mind a little bit of work, you could look on a couple of sites yourself just to see if you find something that you like, maybe very, very close to that one. try www.allurebridals.com or www.essensedesigns.com they're the 2 sites that I think have styles similar. you could also try Stella York or Maggie Sottero but I'm not sure the style line is that similar. Good luck!
  12. A paler shade of pink maybe? I think orchids would be gorgeous. I love the dress colour!!
  13. Congrats and what a romantic place to get engaged! You will find a ton of stories, ideas and tips here that will help you with your DW. Good luck and happy planning!
  14. My husband and I were just the 2 of us when we got married, and the WCs at the resort were our witnesses, so the lead WC was there as I got to the gazebo and she took my bouquet and set it on the table where we signed our marriage license. It just sat there during the ceremony, and when all was said and done, she handed it back to me.
  15. I think I can just about beat everyone. We were together 10 years before we got married and actually got married 4 days before our 10th anniversary! We never had plans to get married at all. We had both already been married and said no way. But we had a major health scare with my husband and I realized I didn't want anything to happen to him and just be the live in girlfriend after that many years. Now we're at 13 years and I honestly can say after this much time I love him even more now. I had a serious health episode just over a year ago, and still have some stuff to get through but he spent about 10 hours a day every day at the hospital for the month I was there, plus he kept up all the housecleaning and laundry, dishes, everything while I was in. Then took care of me at home for the first few weeks until I was able to be on my own even though we had a nurse coming in twice a week. If we make it through the next stage without any complications, a vow renewal next year will be our celebration!
  16. You sound like you did it just the way you wanted, and very much the way we did ours in Jamaica. Our AHR cost us a little more than $300 lol, but it was still well worth it and I'd say our costs were pretty close (and we were only 2, but Jamaica is a bit more expensive). Congrats on being a Mrs. It's a whole lot of fun, isn't it!!!
  17. Just an FYI for you, Dreams Cancun has been bought by Hyatt and will be the Hyatt Ziva Cancun. Just thought you might want to know with everything you've been through don't know if this helps or not, but here is what I have for flowers in the RM: mayafloral.com floresrivieramaya.com not sure if this one is right or not but google Maya Diseno Floral There may be one that is the same as another. I haven't gotten into great detail yet, but hey it might be worth a look Good luck!!
  18. Well done! You summed it up very well and uyou sound so incredibly well organized! Just one little tidbit that might help too. Vistaprint are great for deals on invites, STDs etc. They constantly have sales for either free shipping, or a percentage off. They do have some nice designs available too if you're a fairly good DIYer and have some patience.
  19. Very romantic! I was in the same boat, which is why we got married in October. Our anniversary was the 24th and we got married on the 20th, so close enough! The really freaky part - it was second time around for both of us and my husband's first wedding was October 18th! Needless to say when the resort offered us that date I said NO WAY!!! lol But it all came right in the end and he is most definitely the absolute love of my life! You really can find love a second time around, and when you're older!! Good luck and happy planning!!
  20. Ouch. Not fun. The airlines can drive you mad, and it's one of the main reasons why I have said before not to book too, too far in advance. Yes - I know all the things about resorts being full, flights being full, and so on. We went through the same thing but it was only a sunday to saturday departure change so no biggie. But the airlines are notorious for doing it, especially when it's technically "repositioning" season! lol It has to do with gate availability too at the departure point. Airlines bid on departure gates and airports only allow X number of flights. We got married on Thursday and left on Saturday and I wasn't happy about it. Not quite the same I know but I wanted a couple of days to have a short "honeymoon" after our wedding and I managed only one day! What about making your own trip 10 days if possible, or even 8 days? Maybe have a couple of extra days just the two of you after friends and family leave? This is one of the joys of a destination wedding and sometimes you need to be ready to take some things in stride. Again, not what you want to hear maybe but if the resort can't accommodate a date change, you may need to just hop on and go with the flow! Either way, it will be beautiful and you will be married to the man you love! That's the most important thing! Best of luck!
  21. Welcome to BDW! You'll have a great time on this site with all kinds of ideas and suggestions, and DIY if you're into it as well! The first thing you need to be aware is that end of September/early October is prime hurricane season in the Caribbean. While there are some areas that have more activity than others, it will probably affect your travel plans if we end up with an active season, which is impossible to predict in advance. Cuba definitely does get hit frequently since they're so close to Florida. Hurricane season doesn't technically end until November 30th. We got married October 20th in Jamaica and were warned ahead of time that we were taking a risk. Definitely something for you to consider. I don't know anything about Cuba weddings - I'm sure there are other brides that could chime in on that part of it. I've been there just once and for our own personal preference, we won't go back. I'm sure if you check out the Resort Reviews section you will find reviews that will help you out. As well, click on the forums tab and in the search bar type in the resort you're thinking about. If there are any forums about it they will all pop up and you can start reading to see what info you can find. Of course you can also get in touch with Wright Travel via this site and they could probably provide you with additional information and recommendations. Good luck and happy planning!!
  22. Welcome to BDW! And congrats!! This site is an amazing resource of information, tips and ideas. I would highly recommend that you do take the time to scout around a little and see what there is to offer! Having said that, I was married in Jamaica and it is an island that just seems to spell "romance" if that's possible! lol I'm not sure where you're located, but for that budget amount I would highly recommend Gran Bahia Principe Jamaica, in beautiful Runaway Bay! We had a wonderful time there and I would recommend it still to anyone that asks!! Check out the Resort Reviews on this site and see what other brides are saying about resorts. You can break it down by region which should be a help. As well feel free to contact Wright Travel on this site. They are destination wedding professionals and a fountain of information! Good luck and happy planning!
  23. Very nice job on the tumblers! Where did you get them from, what did they cost and where did you get the labels from? (If you don't mind telling that is.. lol) They turned out great!!
