  1. those are really nice bags! I like them! Is there a minimum you have to order? I haven't had time to look through the site but will do that tonight. Any feedback on what the quality is? They seem to be a really reasonable price!!!
  2. Thanks for adding that! I didn't want to put anything negative like that out lol But it's the absolute truth!! Things can change in the blink of an eye!! We want very much to spread the good news and have everyone as excited as the bride to be is, but unfortunately for most people, they're happy for you but it isn't the big deal for them they way it is for the ones planning it all!
  3. I agree on the year to year and a half. People have such busy lives nowdays, and I find sometimes it's very hard to get anyone to commit to something so far in advance. Different if it's a parent or sibling or bff, but when you start getting into friends or extended family, they may look at the save the date and think "oh we have loads of time" and put it away and not think about it anymore. Good luck and happy planning!
  4. Congrats and welcome to the site! Definitely make use of the resort reviews section too! You'll get all the nitty gritty on what brides thought about the resorts - good and bad! Good luck and happy planning!
  5. Hi. We got married in Jamaica in October and our travel agent put our package together in March. The rate was terrific, and we were also allowed a one time price adjustment if the rate went down. I'm now investigating something for October 2015, and have just been told that they won't even have any rates for that period next year until almost the end of the summer this year. The other thing to consider is that if you're looking at March, you're considering the most expensive travel time of the year almost for winter travel, between march break and university reading weeks, be prepared for high rates. Having said that I would start to inquire now and see what you get but ask about a price drop if the rates change. Check with more than one agent if you can. Some of them have a bit more pull than others. We used Marlin Travel and went with Transat and were very happy with what they gave us. And yes - flight schedules can most definitely change! Plus there are resorts that are more popular than others for weddings so you've got that to consider too!. Good luck and happy planning!
  6. Congratulations and welcome to the site! There is definitely no shortage here of tips, ideas and information on resorts and vendors that should help you out with your planning. And everyone is more than willing to share their experiences as well. Good luck and happy planning!
  7. Congrats and welcome to the site! Yes - there is definitely a ton of information here that will help you with your wedding planning, and the brides both past and present are very willing to share their tips and ideas! Definitely make use of the resort and vendor reviews and see what past brides have had to say. I don't know about Punta Cana but the Mayan Riviera is a beautiful place to have a wedding and there are dozens of places to have your wedding in paradise. Of course it will all depend on what you're looking for! There are a series of webinars being run over the next few weeks that might also help you out with a resort decisions. Good luck and happy planning! .
  8. I think it depends on where you're having your wedding. We got married in Jamaica but couldn't afford the price for the steel drum band so I found steel drum music online that was exactly what we wanted. It cost me $6, which is a long way from the $800 that was being charged at that time. it worked perfectly and we still had the "jamaican feel" to our wedding music. You could almost do the same thing if you wanted to for Mexican music if that's where your wedding is, and depending on how cultural you want to get. If you're looking for first dance songs, there is a whole thread on this site with the contributions made on song titles. Good luck and happy planning!
  9. I just did the clear labels in word. super easy. you can do pretty colours if you want, change the font and each page is about 20 labels each so you're done in no time! I did the same with our thank you cards too. It worked out great!
  10. Hi everyone! I just saw a review here for MVP Hair and Makeup and when I checked, there are multiple reviews. Might be worth checking out. Just go to the Vendor Reviews at the top and type in MVP Hair and Makeup. I also did a google on it and she has a really nice website.
  11. I tried googling the Maya Diseno floral and it linked with Maya Floral. they may have combined or something. I'm not ready to be looking at flowers yet so I didn't follow up on it to see if they were one and the same. I'd be interested in what anyone finds out!
  12. Hi. I found an old post on here where a couple of ladies found them in the dollar bins at Staples and I think office Depot as well. Good luck!
  13. Back when I was expecting both my boys (they are now 33 and 32 so yes it was back in the dark ages!) the technology was totally different than what it is now. We didn't have the 3-D pics you can get today. To get any kind of photo was a big deal, and i think they were just making photos available in the early 80s, and it was horrendously expensive! Most of it was by the heart rate, and that definitely isn't reliable as one of my grandsons can prove. The ultrasound techs weren't allowed to talk to you at all, and if you wanted to know the gender you had to wait until they let your doctor know and find out then. It wasn't immediate like now. I absolutely wanted to know for the same reasons as Tammy. I wanted to know for the room setup, the wallpaper (yes that's what we did back then), colours for clothes and of course for the name. Now there are babies weighing in at a pound and a half that survive beautifully, but my second was a preemie coming in at 5 lbs even, and they had the minister come in to ask me if I wanted to babtize him "just in case". He was considered tiny at that time! It's funny to look back on it all now, especially with having 7 grandchildren and going through the pregnancies as a grandma to be instead of a mom to be, with each of them. It's an exciting time in your lives ladies. Enjoy it!! Once it's gone, you don't get the time back and you will find, unequivocaly that once you have children, time flies by in a way that you've never seen before! Best wishes to all of you!!
  14. Congrats! And welcome to BDW. I'm working on a vow renewal for 2015 as well, but without the kids. Ours are all grown up and we have grandkids. It's second time around for both of us and I'm hoping that we'll get to do the vow renewal and celebrate something special! I've been to Cabo a couple of times and it's gorgeous!! The Riu is beautiful and Dreams I've only seen from outside. Definitely talk to Tammy. She'll be a huge help! Plus you can take a look at the Resort Review section and see what other brides have had to say. There is no shortage of information here so enjoy! Good luck and happy planning!!
  15. Wow! that's gorgeous!! ok so ton of questions! lol what style is it based on? are you happy with the quality of it? how close to size is it? do you need to have further alterations done? when you look at the style you ordered and the style you received, are they in line with what you wanted? would you change it if you could?? I think the dress is stunning, and now you've got my curiousity aroused. I'm going to go back and look at their website. Thanks so much for the pics!!
  16. Any Gran Bahia Principe Runaway Bay Brides out there?
  17. We flew to Jamaica with Air Transat and I had my dress in the white cloth bag provided by Davids. There were 2 other brides on our flight! There are not closets but what I did was basically take over an overhead bin. Between my husband's carry on and my dress, we took the bin and I just stood guard to make sure no one tried to add anything. My dress was very simple chiffon and I just folded it in half once then hung it when we arrived and it worked out great. A little tip ladies as well. Take your dress out of the bag a full day or 2 before your wedding and hang it in the bathroom, then turn on the shower. It works like a charm for letting out any small creases! Good luck to everyone!
  18. Congrats and welcome to the BDW site! You'll find tons of information and tips and ideas here that I'm sure will help you with your destination wedding planning. There is a section on resort and vendor reviews, so I would recommend keying in the resorts you're considering into the search bar to see if something comes up that will hep you with your decision. I don't have any experience with PV but definitely get in touch with the owners of this website! They are professionals and very experienced with destination weddings and I'm sure they would be able to help you out with the info that you want to be able to make a decision. As well, they just may be able to help you out with your rates! Good luck and happy planning!
  19. Congrats and welcome to the BDW site! You will find a ton of information here from brides past and present, and they're very willing to share their ideas and tips. There is a great vendor and resort review section so definitely check it out! I'm sure there is at lease one forum on Gran Caribe Real that would help you out with some of your questions. If you're planning to check out the resort, I would just ask at the front desk to see the wedding coordinator and if she's available, try and get some time with her. Keep in mind that April is a busy wedding time down south, so she may not have time immediately to talk to you. But she would be the best person to help you in terms of getting a date reserved and your next steps. You will also need to find a travel agent to help you with your group travel plans and rates, etc. The travel works a little differently between Canada and the US but if you're in the US, the owners of this website are professional destination wedding planners and would be able to help you out with your plans. Feel free to ask questions and happy planning!
  20. OMG too funny!! do we really?? no....!! do we??? lol
  21. Definitely cool. I like that. I know they have different beach scenes available on their site but i like the one you found! I have used vistaprint for our AHR invites, plus for 2 special birthdays, our thank you cards, and our photo cards that we sent to people that didn't attend our wedding. Plus I did canvas bags, and return address labels that I use for cards when we send them (Xmas, birthdays, etc) I really like all the different ideas. Now I've seen the rack cards that some ladies have published and they're another really great idea! Thanks again!
  22. That's so thoughtful! And what a great idea to pay it forward! I'll steal your idea if you're willing to share how you put them together, but I'll leave the tags for someone that truly needs them. I love vistaprint. They have a deal on now for free shipping if anyone is interested.
  23. it's unfortunate that you have to go through all of this. I would bet if you talked to every single bride and bride to be on this site, every one of them would have some little tidbit similar to this, in some way shape or form. I've said it before.. lol nothing brings out the worst in people more than weddings and funerals. or the worst in your family members either! chin up! your wedding will be wonderful! You're marrying the man you love in a tropical paradise! it is your day no matter what anyone says and anyone, friend or otherwise that is ungracious enough to add this kind of stress, is not worth worrying about. I would just tell her politely that you're very sorry she won't be able to make it, you really would love to see her there, but you realize sometimes things don't always work out as planned. then I would just tell her, again politely, that you will still have wonderful memories of your wedding because you're marrying blank (whatever your FI's name is) in wherever it is and that's all you need for it to be special. sometimes not allowing somebody to see how much something upsets you works the opposite way. reverse psychology lol good luck! it will all work out in the end.
  24. Dreams Riviera Cancun (Puerto Morelos) will continue to be an AMR Resort. Dreams Cancun (Cancun) has been bought by Hyatt and will be the Hyatt Zilara.
