  1. What about checking on the vendor review forums, or checking the photo gallery? It's very likely someone from Beach Palace posted either comments about the company you're referring to, or even posted photos of their decor. As well I would check the Beach Palace forums. I would lay odds there is someone there that either used that company, or knows something about them. Good luck and happy planning!
  2. Hi all. I'm not sure who is still around besides me that has been party of this forum for quite a while, but if anyone remembers JayKay, she got married at GBPJ in January 2012. Well she had her first baby on Saturday. A little boy, Elliot Tyler and he is just gorgeous! Sounds like mommy and baby are doing just great!
  3. ha ha I LOVE to treadmill walk to Lady GaGa, Black Eyed Peas and Avici! absolutely love Avici! you know what else is great to walk to? Chris Brown "Forever". it's hilarious the rhythm you can get on the treadmill to that song!!
  4. Congrats and welcome to the site! I totally agree on the all inclusive, particularly for unseasoned travellers. It encompasses everything - flight, accommodation, drinks, meals. It just makes things much easier and more straightforward and gives your guests much less to worry about. And it takes a load off your mind too in that you won't have to worry about them. There are so many resorts in Mexico, and in the Playa del Carmen area that would work for what you're looking for. I don't know if you're in the US or Canada, but it would be I think helpful for you to contact the site owners - Wright Travel and tell them what you're looking for and I know they would be able to help you out both in the way of budget and in what you're looking for. It might also be helpful to check out the resort reviews and see what other brides have had to say about their experiences. Have fun, good luck and happy planning!!
  5. I was married in Jamaica but did investigate Mexico. A legal ceremony in Mexico is done in Spanish with a translator. The only ceremony directly in English is symbolic. Yes - it is still vows and exchange of rings. A lot of Mexicans are very devout catholics and very much steeped in tradition. There are some absolutely beautiful churches in Mexico. You need to have a blood test done and also need to be in the country extra days prior (I believe it's 4 days prior) in order to complete all the requirements. All of your documentation needs to be translated into Spanish and certified prior to your wedding. I'm not sure what the individual resort requirements are in terms of how far in advance you need to send your documents. Your resort wedding coordinator can help you with all of the details, but from what I was told when i was investigating it, the ceremony is generally similar to a traditional wedding ceremony with the catholic church influence. That was a few years ago. Maybe someone that has been through it recently can chime in with any extra details. Congrats and happy planning!!
  6. I just looked at the email address I have for him. Try capitalizing the "s" at the beginning: [email protected] that's what I have as the email. Or I have this: Spencer's Tour & Taxi - Michael Spencer: 876-842-0527 or 876-326-5436 Hope that helps. He is an absolute sweetheart and if you ask at the concierge desk right inside the hotel lobby, they know very well who he is.
  7. you can check out Merrick's work on facebook too. I would still highly recommend him! lol Good luck!!
  8. Congrats! And welcome to the site! You've already found out how helpful everyone is here, with information, tips and ideas. Definitely half your battle is coming up with a location, and there are some awesome, beautiful places to plan a destination wedding! And I think the fact that you have a TA will help you make your decision. It might help if you read the resort reviews too to see what other brides have had to say about where they got married. You absolutely have time on your side to find what you want. My personal choice would be Jamaica just because it's so easy to actually get married there. One of the reasons we chose not to get married in Mexico is all the reasons that you'll see here. So many brides do the legal stuff at home first, but it was something that I didn't want to do. It's a lot of work to get legally married in Mexico, no doubt about it. Jamaica is completely different. We were both divorced and even with that there wasn't any hassle at all. I'm super glad we did it that way, and Jamaica has some fabulous, beautiful resorts that will accommodate your group size and the fact that you have little ones that will be part of it! Have some fun with it, and enjoy! Happy planning!
  9. Great review and your pics are gorgeous! Your dress is stunning! Which designer did you use? Glad to hear it all worked out well! It always does! lol Another happy Gran Bahia Principe Jamaica bride!! Congrats!!
  10. I checked out the spark people site and I'm signing up for sure!! I like the little bit that I had a fast look at. I'm doing crazy work hours right now and just need to survive the next couple of months, then I'm going to take a serious look at it and see what I can put together. My husband and I are both involved with special projects and aren't getting dinner in the evening until about 8pm (if we're lucky) so that's one of the things that's a problem - eating that late at night. The other thing I know is that after the next hospital session weight will come off again, and this time I'm going to try and make it stick by being careful with my eating habits through the recovery! Good luck ladies!! It doesn't get easier as you get older so if you can set yourself up with good habits now, it will definitely benefit you down the road!! That's from the voice of experience! lol
  11. Congratulations and welcome to the site! You'll find lots of information, tips and ideas here that will definitely assist you with your DW plans! If you haven't yet decided on a resort, definitely take a look at the resort reviews! It will give you a feel for what past brides have experienced, both good and bad! You don't say if you're in the US or Canada - have you picked a travel agent to work with yet? If not, definitely feel free to contact the site owners - Wright Travel. They are destination wedding experts and will definitely be able to help you out with deciding what resort might work for you with what you require. You'll find everyone here more than willing to share information and experiences. Good luck and happy planning!
  12. Congrats and welcome to the BDW site! I'm in Ontario, just outside of Toronto but I know there are a lot of western Canada brides and brides to be here! You'll find tons of information, tips and ideas here that will help you with your wedding planning. Be sure and check out the resort and vendor reviews too! Everyone is more than willing to share their info and experiences. Good luck and happy planning!
  13. It's a fun and enjoyable time in your life! Good luck!
  14. Welcome to BDW and congrats on planning a DW! You didn't say if you're in the US or Canada, but it's never too early to contact a travel agent, even if it's just to touch base with one and see what kind of relationship you develop with them. I would say you're a little early yet for 2016. If you're in the US, I would highly recommend getting in touch with the site owners, Wright Travel. They are destination wedding specialists and have tons of information that they can help you with. And they would also be able to help you figure out when to actually start working with them to get plans put together. If you're in Canada, things work just a little differently. Pricing for packages is only available about a year in advance. I was just advised that for October 2015 for me, pricing won't even be available until late this summer, and even then flight departure days aren't guaranteed. If you know your location, that's a good first step. You could spend some time on this site reading through the different comments and tips and ideas. Browse through the resort and vendor reviews and see what other brides have had to say. There is so much information here sometimes it takes a little while to process it, but it's a lot of fun to read through. Hope that helps a little. Good luck and happy planning!!
  15. I'm a Jamaica bride! Tammy's right too - there is a TON of information here for Jamaica brides! Welcome to the site and happy planning! Hi All. I did the webinar for Moon & Playacar Palace today and I have to say, if anyone is trying to get information definitely sign up for the webinars. It was so worth it today. I got a whole different idea of the one of the resorts I'm considering. I'm signed up for next weekend too for Gran Porto Real, which is right now my first choice, but after today's webinar Playacar Palace is running a very close second!! Check out the full schedule and if the resort you're considering is on the list, I would highly recommend that you sign up! Good luck and happy planning!
  16. Just a little tip ladies from someone that was in the same boat almost 4 years ago! can't believe its been that long! prowl around on all kinds of different topics. use the search bar and input things that you think of and see what comes up. check out the buy sell trade sites too. you never know what you'll find for sale that might help you with your own décor or ideas or whatever. ask questions! make comments! it will add up very quickly! lol
  17. I have yet to read anything from anyone that shipped their OOT bag goodies down ahead of time, and from things I've read, the resorts tend to dissuade it. everything could end up getting lost before you even get there! you're almost ahead of the game by buying extra suitcases and paying the extra charges for baggage because shipping to Mexico is definitely NOT cheap!! as long as you pack the small sanitizers, Tylenol, etc that generally goes into the OOT bags and don't take it all on board, you're good. they've relaxed a lot of the restrictions that were out there for liquids and stuff. but be careful because I heard something about duties going into Mexico. You need to have your receipts showing how much you paid and I seem to remember reading something about they had just raised the limit, and I think you're allowed $400. maybe somebody that knows a bit more about it can chime in and help out with that part of things. good luck to both of you and happy planning!!
  18. I've said it many times and I'll pass it on to you. There is nothing that brings out the squabbles in families and friends like weddings and funerals. A lot of times people make comments because they just resent the fact that they have to pay, and take time off, etc. Ours got bad enough with people not wanting to pay that we got married just the two of us and the WCs were our witnesses. No matter how it turns out, it's your day. And you're getting married the way you want to. Don't let the negativity get you down. lol you could always threaten to elope! that has a way of shutting people up, especially if it comes down to a choice of people being able to be there or not! But seriously, you need to let it roll off. have you thought about an at home reception? that might appease some people. otherwise, you smile politely and say that you're very sorry they won't be able to make it to your wedding, but you know you'll have wonderful memories of your wedding to [blank] in paradise! usually if you don't let people see they're getting to you, they'll back off. Good luck and happy planning!!
  19. @@pjain Welcome to you as well! That's great that you already have your date and resort location! You're way ahead of the game! Again, take a look around the site! I know there is information here that will help you out with your planning, and the people on this site are great! Enjoy, and happy planning to you as well! Oh yeah.... I'm in the GTA as well, and work downtown!
  20. Just wondered if anyone has seen a site called dress day or day dress (something like that). It popped up last night while I was searching some things and I tossed it off, but realized afterwards that it was probably a site similar to these. Don't know if anyone has heard of, or dealt with them. If so, would be curious to know. They actually go by dress style numbers of designers, which really surprised me. One I was looking for popped up (that's how I found the site) and the price was unbelievable. But the old saying of what sounds too good to be true usually is keeps sticking in my head......
  21. Wow - thanks to both of you @@csho and @@diadiamond. You just provided me with information I didn't know that I can definitely use!! I'm quite a lot older than the majority of ladies on this site and believe me when I say, losing weight is 10,000 percent harder when you get older!!! I had a major health episdoe almost 18 months ago and was 12 days without any solid food. Needless to say, I lost 19 lbs and LOVED IT!!!!! But..... all good things must come to an end and once I got out of the hospital and got home and started being able to eat food again, bit by awful bit, the weight went back on. I also have a form of arthritis in my back, knees and hips so exercise for me is an "exercise in pain" (pardon the pun). It's a catch 22. They say exercise is good for you to strengthen the muscles around the joints and provide support, but the exercise is really painful. So you're damned if you do and damned if you don't. I have more surgery to get through later this year, but once it's done I really want to get back to getting weight off and get into a kick butt dress that will make my husband's jaw drop when (I can't bring myself to say if) we get to do our vow renewal in October of 2015. @@EmmaBrown - csho is absolutely right! A trainer should NEVER shame you or embarass you into anything!!!! I've had a couple of trainers over the years, but again they were to try and strengthen muscles to help with arthritis so there was limitations on what we did. If you ladies have any other tips, I would be happy to hear them!! Thanks!!
  22. I got married at GBPJ in 2011, and my understanding is that, since 2011, they have changed quite a few of the rules. One of them is the documentation. I don't know if it was because they were finding that too many people didn't have the proper paperwork once they arrived in Jamaica or not. We were allowed to just scan and email, then bring the originals with us. We both had divorce papers and we had a notarized copy made that we had to leave in Jamaica for the Registrar there, but for our passports and birth certificates, the email pdf version was fine. The other thing, couriers will not deliver to po boxes. Everyone in the area knows the GBPJ so they would just deliver directly to the resort.
  23. if you have an electronic file, you can post them. hit "more reply options" which is beside your "post" button, and you'll see manage attachments. you can upload the file from your computer there and others will be able to see it. I think that's the Pisces you're referring to, and they charge to have it completely closed to only your group. you can still sit down there at night, and I believe still get drinks so in order to make it private for you, they close it to other guests. it has been a popular option for a lot of past brides to be able to have a fully private reception. the thing is, people walking through the resort will still see your party going on. it isn't fully private and away from other guests, but they wouldn't be allowed access. It's a very pretty spot on the resort though. Right by the water. During the day, according to my husband, the jerk chicken is to die for!! It is well know all through Runaway Bay!
  24. Welcome to the site and congrats on your upcoming destination wedding! You will find a virtual ton of information here that will help you out with your planning process! The resort and vendor review sections are full of reviews and comments from brides, past and present. Happy planning!
  25. Something a little different. My husband and I were second time arounders (is that a word?) lol. Anyway, both out of bad marriages. Mine was REALLY bad. So I went back to my maiden name, partly for security reasons and I found after a few months that I liked it. It was a struggle getting over the end of my marriage and I stayed on my own for more than a year before I started dating. I needed to find out who I was all over again. Well, when the love of my life and I got married I didn't want to change my name another time. I was honest about it with him and being older, he doesn't have an issue with it. I always tell him that he's part of my life because I want him to be, not because I need him to be and I learned that in the time I spent getting "me" back. I decided that I like being "me" so I haven't changed my name. It isn't an insult to him in any way. After 13 years together I love him more now than ever. Our kids are grown up and on their own so there aren't any "children" issues, and I know for some people they feel it does create problems dealing with schools and stuff. His parents think it's funny that I didn't change my name. But I just figure we can be a power couple and I can be his best friend without changing my last name. Only my personal view, but maybe something for someone that is considering not changing their name. Good luck everyone and enjoy your planning!!
