  1. I think a veil really completes the look and I thought I would never not want to have one. I have heard from a few brides that the wind on the beach made theveil difficult. I am bringing both incase I decide I want a veil last minute. I am pretty set on the flower.
  2. I was in the same boat. Although mine is not a complete mermaid. I am also thinking about skipping the veil and putting a tropical flower in my hair
  3. I was also given the okay by the ROR. I am so excited to order these.
  4. I didn't know that you could put an alert on the products. I have done that for both products. My wedding isn't until December so I have some time to watch for sales.
  5. I am from Canada and we are flying our photographer down with us. We arranged with our photographer to pay for the package and he is covering the flight and accomodations.
  6. At the Riu if you choose to go with the free package you need to pay the minister fees which I think is around $400.
  7. Thanks for the tip. Do you know if the more round bubba keg ever go on sale? I like those ones better but $5.19 is really cheap.
  8. I am on the opposite side and I have a brother and sister and my FI has one brother. Him and his brother aren't close so he isn't having him but my brother and sister are super close to me so my FI is having my brother as a groomsmen as he knows how much it means to me and him. If he had a sister I would have her as I think it shows a united family but it is your wedding and ultimately you should do what you want. Hope this helps
  9. I agree with what every here has said. If you do not want a bridal party than I wouldn't have one. If the FI wants a bridal party maybe compromise and have one attendant each. I love having a bridal party although ours are both small.
  10. Thank you so much Tammy. Hopefully ROR will be willing to do this
  11. I never thought about putting the Flowers in the dress bag. I think I may seriously look into the real touch flowers. What you could do for the bridesmaid is bring them to the airport and have them also put them in the bag with their dresses.
  12. We are doing the same thing as lkw4568. We started putting aside $500 a month and any extra money we put in the wedding account. Also twice a year I get a bonus and that went right to the wedding.
  13. Thanks for all the ideas ladies. I love the decoration on the beach. I am getting married at the Riu Ocho Rios and I looked into having the florist decorate the archway and it is outrageously expensive. I am looking for an inexpensive way to decorate the arch. There are some great ideas here
  14. Your bouqets are beautiful. I am starting to think as I see more and more real touch bouqets that this may be the way I should go. How much did your flowers cost you roughly?
  15. Thanks for the tip. I will check the Dollarama near me for the red ones. I wish they had black ones though
  16. I agree with both girls. If you are having doubts and you are not going to enjoy getting married than I would post pone. Maybe you should have a serious talk with your OH and tell him how you are feeling. This is supposed to be an exciting time and you do not sound like you are having fun. You don't want to start your marriage off on a bad note. Hope this helps
  17. I have heard it is best to give yourself 6-9 months. I am ordering my dress in the next week or so which leaves me about 9 months. I think it depends a lot on the designer as well.
  18. We are also not paying for their trips. Our trip is a week and they are all treating it as a vacation. We are however buying the outfits for the day of the wedding for both bridesmaids and the groomsmen.
  19. We are buying the groomsmen each a suit that they will be wearing and a really nice pair of leather sandals.
  20. I have planned my wedding with the motto of cutting cost but not quality. Your tips are excellant suggestions. I too have tried go wait for things to go on sale. For my wedding dress I got pricing from many stores to get the lowest price. I am trying to make a lot of things myself as DIY is almost always cheaper than buying it from the resort. Thanks again for the tips
  21. We sent our STDs out just under two years in advance. We wanted everyone to have time to save. We are going to send our invites about 6 months before the wedding. On our STD we included the date, resorts, country, and website.
  22. I will try to help you out. I was very overwhelmed at first but it does get easier. -How did you settle on a location for your wedding? This was the hardest part for us. We were worried because we are taking a group of 60 and wanted to make sure the hotel was going to meet everyone's needs. What I did was I narrowed it down to a country. In choosing the country we kept the cost for guests in mind. We decided on Jamaica as it is a beautiful but not outrageously expensive. Next I did my resort research and narrowed it down to 3. Cost was amajor player in this selection as well. We wanted to keep the cost to about $1500 per person which we were able to do. I weighed the pros and cons for each resort and choose the Riu. -Is it even possible to have a nice wedding for less than 10k? - It is definitely possible to have a beautiful wedding for under 10k. We budgeted 10 and we are only spening around 8k. We are having everything we would want and have upgraded a lot. -How did you deal with the stress of people complaining about having to travel? This has started already, but our families live on different sides of the country, so someone is going to have to travel anyways...-At first I got really upset everytime someone complained but I got to the point where I told myself that this was what we could afford and those that really want to be there will be. We gave everyone 2 years notice so they could save for the wedding. You are planning far enough away that people should be able to save. We did get a lot of complaining from our grandparents who are older and don't want to fly. For them we are live streaming the wedding so they can watch it at home. -Are there any resorts that really cater to destination weddings? I have been looking at the individual resort websites, and those help, but I guess really what I'm looking for is the resort that includes the most without having to have a minimum number of bookings.- I have found in doing research that almost every resort now caters to destination weddings. Some of the ones I looked at are Riu, Iberstar, Gran Bahia, Sandals, Beaches, Dream/Secrets. -What resorts are recommended? - I have not yet been to a destination wedding but the Riu Ocho Rios has been great to work with so far. I hope this helps you. Happy planning
  23. If you really want to get married on the beach but want the privacy I would ask the wedding planner what the best time is. We asked our planner and she said 5pm as most people are getting ready for dinner and there are few people on the beach. Just a thought
  24. We used mywedding.com. They have great templates and their websites are easy to make. I update the website whenever I have new information. A lot of our guests refer to the website on a regular basis. I divided ours into different sections (accomodations, our story, photo gallery, events, etc) Hope this helps
  25. I agree with JayKay. I am in the process of planning a December wedding in Jamaica. The most important things is don't get stressed. I choose 3 resorts and weighed the pros and cons of each, contacted all the wedding planners with questions and then decided on one. Then we booked the day of the wedding. Once that is booked you can talk with the wedding planner. Most wedding planners like to finalize things once you arrive there. It sounds scary but I have heard that the process is relaxing and the weddings turn out beautiful. Happy Planning
