  1. Casual cocktail? If you have a website you can be much more specific -- I'd write exactly what you wrote here. Hope that helps!
  2. I am copying my best friend's wedding: bridal party intro (they line up on the far end of the dance floor) newlywed intro, immediately followed by first dance, then parent dances (combined) -- LOVED the idea of being surrounded by the wedding party and getting this all over with first!!! first course served main course speeches dancing dessert dance party continues with introduction of props (she had about 100 really long balloons drop onto the dance floor which made for great photos!) Midnight snack
  3. Thanks Becky! I have heard great things about the Aman Resorts, but I've never been there! Great recommendation!!!
  4. Hi! I thought about doing the Spanish theme in Mexico too because I lived in Spain for a couple years. Instead we are doing more of a Mexican-beachy theme, but here are some of the ideas I was considering: Spanish (flamenco) guitarist for our cocktail hour traditional tapas or pintxos for appetizers serving sangria as our signature cocktail (or white sangria if it's super hot!) paella for a dinner option red sashes for the guys (think running of the bulls!) Table cards could be Spanish slang words for love with their definitions on the back (i.e.: media naranja = soul mate; ) or names of cities in Spain. I also thought it would be fun to have a pro salsa or flamenco dancer at the reception to teach and dance with guests. Postcard prints from famous Spanish artists/cities (if you are looking for your colors, look up Gaudi! His architecture could be your inspiration!) I would consider doing castanets instead of maracas as table favors too. They are traditionally Spanish and are fun to dance with. Hope that helps! Have fun!
  5. We are looking for a combination of fantastic, relaxing beaches and culture for our honeymoon. (Think San Sebastian, Spain -- that would be perfect, but we want go somewhere new.) Right now we are considering Croatia, Turkey, Bali, and the Caribbean. We're going in July, so weather is definitely a consideration (probably not South America). Any other destinations you'd recommend? Advice on any of the above places? Thank you!!
  6. This thread is great! Thank you for posting. I lost motivation after finding out that I can't run anymore (who gets arthritis in the knees at 33??) and gained 15 lbs. I hope to lose it by my July 2011 wedding. Two pounds down so far, and heading to the gym right now. By the way -- I LOVE the before and after picture idea. Thanks for sharing those!
  7. I had to wait until 2002 when they finally approved a laser strong enough for my eyes (20/1000 -- yikes). When I finally had it done, it was SO liberating!!! No more contacts, no more glasses, no more worries about surfing or swimming with contacts! I had to use eye drops for 6 months after, but it was so worth it. 8 years later, I'm still 20/15. I had mine done at OHSU at the Casey Eye Institute. Even if you do not live in the Pacific Northwest, I would recommend that you at least check out their website for information about LASIK and options for people like me, with really bad eye sight and slight astigmatisms. http://www.ohsu.edu/xd/health/services/casey-eye/clinical-services/laser-vision-correction/index.cfm Love them, love my eyesight. Best investment EVER.
  8. We are getting married at Cabo Azul (150 guests) and we made sure to get quotes from several hotels in the area. It is pricey but it is actually more comparable to the Hilton and Sheraton prices. Las Ventanas, Dreams, and Marquis were all more expensive than Cabo Azul... When you book, there isn't much room for negotiation (believe me, we tried!) when it comes to on-site food and beverage prices, but all other services can come from outside vendors. I am doing a lot of the planning (flowers, decorations, photography, rehearsal, etc) myself and would be happy to share what I've found. All of my vendors with the exception of the photographers and hair and make-up are cheaper than what Cabo Azul originally quoted me. More work, but less money! If you are still interested, PM me and I'll be happy to share more.
  9. There is one on ebay right now for $108 in a size 14. A seamstress could potentially use the fabric from that to make the original dress bigger. Good luck!!
  10. Hi Vanessa, We are booked at Cabo Azul in June -- you might want to check availability because all of the weekends through August were already booked as of September. We've never visited the resort and are going site-unseen for our wedding. However, we have friends who have been to weddings there and have raved about it!! We are having 150 people at our wedding and are a bit nervous about everyone being able to get rooms there (it's all timeshare villas). So far we have had 89 guests booked with no problem. Fingers crossed that it keeps going smoothly! All food and drinks must be done through the resort (cocktail, reception, and if you choose to have your rehearsal dinner there -- we are having our rehearsal dinner at Tequila's). Flowers, music, hair/make-up, photography, etc. can be done through other vendors, although the wedding manager at Cabo Azul can coordinate those for you too. If you have specific questions for me, send me a PM. Hope that helps! We are SO excited!!! Lisa
  11. I might end up getting plastic, colorful buckets from Oriental Trading Company. Here is the link I found: http://www.orientaltrading.com/ui/browse/processRequest.do?demandPrefix=12&sku=3/1908&prodCatId=388626&mode=Browsing&erec=0&Ntx=mode%2bmatchallpartial&sp=true&Ntk=all&cm_sp=LUAU-_-main-_-feature2&requestURI=processProductsCatalog&tabId=1&Ipp=16&N=388626+1297&No=48&sd=Bright+Colorful+Bucket+Assortment: They also have adorable tote bags, too. It's great to know that there is a Costco in Cabo, though! Thanks, Lisa
  12. Hi Kim, We are trying to decide too. I have been looking at my photographer's website www.alecandt.com for ideas, and it's helped a lot. You can see their blog posts which feature weddings they've done in Mexico. It's great seeing how wedding parties in the past have coordinated, and which colors really seem to work. I'm sure if you go to any destination wedding photographer's website mentioned on this forum, you'll get more great ideas for attire. Good luck, Lisa
  13. I want to have beer buckets as part of our welcome gift/OOT bags for our guests. Anyone know where to buy them in bulk in Cabo? We will have 150+ guests. Thanks!
  14. My friend had an artist paint a scene from their wedding as a surprise. It is absolutely unbelievable -- they have it hanging in their living room and is their most memorable and precious piece of art.
  15. We are getting married at Cabo Azul on June 18, 2011 -- have you decided on vendors? Congrats!
