  1. We are getting married this November at Dreams La Romana, and we sent out our save the dates 14 months before the wedding...a year or 11 months is a great amount of time, too. I know a ton of our guests (163 are booked!!) have told us they were really happy they had a lot of time to plan for the vacation!! Congrats & good luck!!
  2. Vancouver Bride: I'm so sorry for the loss of your bridesmaid, that is awful. You should check with your wedding coordinator about the alcohol charge, though - they usually charge the open bar per person charge no matter where you are if you have a party of 10 or more because of the extra staff the private events need. Definitely ask, but that is what we were told. You can't just have people walk to the bar for a drink if its a special event like a wedding. (Actually even if you try to have ten or more people at dinner in the restaurants on a regular night they will tell you that there is a liquor charge requirement - either per person open bar or a bottled wine purchase requirement.
  3. Hey ladies!!! Its been SO long since I've posted - so busy with the wedding planning!! 11.10.12 is getting here SO quickly!! We have 163 people booked so far, can't believe it! We are using HDC & so happy we chose them from looking at everyones pictures!! Gems2Wed2012 - Your wedding is in 7 weeks? You should definitely contact the wedding coordinator to lock down a ceremony/reception location bc they do get booked up since the resort does more than one wedding a day, sometimes 3 or 4. We are getting married at the garden gazebo - its not in the center of everything, its over back behind the preferred club area and there is nowhere for people to be walking behind the gazebo, so no one else will be in your pictures. People can see you if they're over there, but its a low traffic area of the resort. Definitely contact Jenny asap though, I know that one can get booked quickly. She should send you a package including all of the buffet options & pricing.

  9. There are TONS of pricing options, & if you would like to send me your email address I'll be happy to forward you all the info I have from the resor. We're having a huge wedding this coming November so we're doing a buffet, and there are a bunch of buffet options if you have over 35 people I believe. Also, theres a great cocktail hour menu options, and sit down menu options. The silver and gold menu options are very basic compared to what they offer. Also I would double check, but I think in addition to the extra $20/pp, people not staying at the resort have to pay for a pass for the day (I think its like $80/pp or something like that.) I could be wrong but I'm almost positive I read that somewhere. Not sure bc all of our guests are staying at the resort, but I would look into it. Welcome to the forum & to being a DLR bride!!

Just an FYI - the resaurants don't take reservations, and anything over 10 people is considered an 'event' and they will charge you the same for it (per person fee $20 - $25 plus the open bar $5 or $10/pp plus 26% for tax and service). You are much better off just paying the per person and having your wedding exactly where you want it. They do this exactly for this reason - so people can't get around paying for the wedding or event dinner.
  11. Dreams La Romana allows it, thats crazy that Dreams Palm Beach said no. I even sent them pictures of the sky lanterns to double check and both WC said it was no problem, that we could use them from the beach.
  12. Voltron, Congrats!! The fee for the judge or priest is in addition to your wedding package - I believe its around $500. Also keep in mind that you have to pay for a translator because the officiants perform the ceremony in spanish (not sure if this fee is included in the $500, or in addition to - we have a friend performing our ceremony, so there is no fee.) Also, the resort discourages shipping your decorations - but if you do decide to, they say that you should ship things 8 weeks ahead of time so that it clears customs in time. It might be worth the extra $ just to pack an extra suitcase so you know where your things are, and theyre not sitting for a month at the resort. We also visited the resort - in July - and it is amazing! Congrats on the wedding!!

  14. Hey ladies!! Has anyone here used an outside vendor in the Dominican Republic for their cake? Trying to find one because the resort cake is so expensive! Any suggestions??
  15. Hey ladies! Love this idea! We're doing the same thing with the backdrop, props, etc - but we're using a digital camera on a tripod with a button remote shutter so the guests take as many pictures of themselves as they want throughout the night - theyre not instant, but our photographer is making us a CD of all of them, so that we can make a photobook of them on Shutterfly at home! My friend did this for her wedding and got about 1000 extra pictures - and some of the best from the night were from here. We're also putting some chalk and little chalk boards with the props so guests can write us notes on them and then take the picture holding their messages. Our photographer is only charging us $200 for the whole setup and the CD of images, so its well worth it! Just another idea for those of you having some trouble finding the instant cameras!

  20. Amurka, Thank you! I will post a pic as soon as I find it! There was an outside florist that other people were using - its on one of the forums so I'll try to find it (I wish I had known when I was reading it way back in May how expensive the resort was going to be - I wouldve written it down lol!). I definitely think we should be able to find a florist for a reasonable price - and like I said I'm going to use the bridesmaid bouquets as decoration also, to keep from ordering more than necessary. What photographers are you girls using?

  22. Brendee, Thank you!! I cant wait for it to be in, in my size! I don't think I'm going to wear a veil, I considered a birdcage veil for the ceremony but I think I'm going to do a flower in my hair on one side instead.
  23. Sabrina, Can you give me the name of the flower shop youre using? Thats amazing that you have family in Santo Domingo! I will look and find the email that said $5/pp after 11 - I know I have it somewhere!! I'm having my reception in the ballroom also - I can't wait to see your pictures!! Whos your photographer?
