  1. Oh wow...if you can pull off not paying for extra hours of bar, that's pretty good. I mean it seems reasonable, obviously...I'm just hoping they can be flexible with some of these things! It's pretty shocking how all of this is adding up. I did a prelim budget based on 75 people and we're at over 28k?!?!?! That doesn't include our site trip or flights for the wedding or anything extra, really. I want fire dancers?!?! I'm thinking sparklers at the least Your wedding sounds like it's gonna be a blast! Let me know how the extra time works out...
  2. The pictures are gorgeous! Elizabeth, can I ask how you how you were able to work there with their preferred vendor list?
  3. I narrowed down my top resorts based on which had after-hours bars! Desires at Dreams in Cabo was a lot of fun at a wedding last May. We thought it was funny to pronounce it like the "Desiree" woman's name. Now it doesn't sound quite as hilarious... By the way, I love your website, what service did you use?
  4. I want a long reception as well...I know I won't want it to end and even if it was 8 hours long, it'd be over too fast! Other than the DJ, what else do you have to pay for with the extra hours? The bar? I'm forgetting if 3 or 4 hours is included in the package already...
  5. Love the idea of tipping the Restaurant Manager to make it happen! I'm writing that one down Thanks for all the tips!
  6. I've been thinking of you all weekend! So happy for you that it turned out so perfectly! Have a happy honeymoon!
  7. I'm not sure yet how long we're going for, at least a week I'd think! Let's keep in touch!
  8. So glad the weather turned around for you but I can't imagine how stressful it's been! Good for you for staying positive. Out of curiosity, why can't the 25 make it? If flights are cancelled, don't they get rebooked for free? Selfishly thinking of our wedding around this time next year.... I've been thinking of you and sending good thoughts your way!!
  9. We've got deposits down at 4 different resorts (NOW Sapphire, Jade, Dreams, Azul Sensatori) in Puerto Morelos until we visit next month to decide! But we're pretty darn set on the date! From what I hear the rain is more tropical, and can fall for a few minutes and then clear. I imagine it like Hawaii where it's almost refreshing. I don't have a choice but to be positive about it at this point, it was stressing me out BIG TIME for awhile (like when I started this thread begging for help!?!) I figure later in October is safer than October 1 like we originally planned.
  10. Thanks again, Ginger, for all the information and words of advice! How much were your bridesmaids bouquets? I'll let you know if I come up with any more questions for you!
  11. Ginger - great overview, thank you! You wedding sounds wonderful I can't wait to see pictures. I'm still deciding between 3 resorts for October 2011 but Sapphire is at the top of the list. The Beach Terrace is the only venue available, is it as nice as the Tequila Terrace do you think? Did you add lighting or linens or chairs or anything extra? Is there a late night bar to continue the party? I'm glad to hear the resort is quiet in October, I hope our guests have run of the place (and lounge chairs!) as well! You're making me excited Thanks again.
  12. I've just put deposits down for October 22nd and 23rd 2011 so I'm right there with ya! I'm checking the weather every day this month and making a "log" - so far so good! They seem to predict more rain than actually falls. What resort did you book? You and I and plently of other October 2011 brides will be doing the no-rain dance for the next year. I'm feeling positive that we'll have GREAT weather!!
  13. Ah ha, thank you! I like that idea a lot, how do they charge for that extra 1/1.5 hours? When is your wedding and what time is your ceremony? How long will your actual reception be? I want as much time as possible. Do you know if there's a late night bar at the resort? Sorry for all the quesitons...I'm visiting the resort in November so I plan to ask a million annoying questions of them too! Thanks!
  14. For anyone who is having (or had) their ceremony on the sky deck, I read somewhere that it comes with a cocktail reception afterwards? Or am I remembering that wrong? Wishful thinking probably...I remember something about passed champagne as guests arrive but maybe that was it. It looks like from pictures there's a place to do a cocktail reception on the opposite end as the pergola - is anyone planning their cocktail reception up there? Where are people holding their cocktail hours? The wedding book is confusing because it prices out a 2-hour cocktail reception but it almost looks like it's in place of a private reception (I'm holding the Zavas Plaza for my actual reception). Thanks!
  15. Does anyone know if Melia Cabo Real have a late night bar/disco? Highly considering this as an option for our wedding next fall... Thanks!
  16. Welcome! My name's Jessie too and today I put down my deposit for October 22, 2011. We're waiting until after our site visit in November to actually go to contract though. I hope we can lock in a good room rate. Do you mind if I ask you what you got? MY TA quoted something like $470 for 3 days per person but they can't commit until we're ready to sign. I'm excited to see how the process goes for you. Well done on the Save the Dates- you're ahead of the game! I can't wait for the day when our place and date is OFFICIAL and we can spread the good news...this part of the process has been rough. Did you go down to see the hotel or are you going by the MANY testimonial on this site? It's so helpful. Again, congrats, and I look forward to sharing experiences!
  17. Your set up sounds great...would you mind posting or emailing me a copy of your diagram? [email protected]. I want to visualize how 70ish guests will fit on the pool deck...Did you feel like it was tight? Where did you have your cocktail party? Sorry if I'm asking questions you've already answered!
  18. Weird what you're saying about Sunday weddings because I've been emailing both Jade and Sapphire about available dates (Sundays inlcuded) and I've gotten responses that some Sundays are still open.
  19. Thanks for the heads up! My TA is still waiting to hear back about overall availability October 2011. I really don't want ceremony or reception on the beach so it sounds like the pool deck is the only other outside area large enough. Good luck with your location!!!
  20. UPDATE: We're looking at October 22 or 23 now. We could honeymoon at our friend's wedding (the 29th) and overlapping guests would just need to take a week off for both weddings! It's not ideal but it could work... It makes me feel a little more comfortable doing it near the end of the month rather than beginning. The rates are better in October than in December also...I'm still welcoming feedback as it's not booked YET. Thanks everyone for your input!
  21. I'm hoping to put my deposit down on a date for next fall and I need to select my ceremony/reception locations on the form. Pilar sent me information but I don't see a lot of options for larger wedding party receptions. I'm hoping we'll get 75-ish. I like the pergola for the ceremony and I'd love a covered patio or something similar for the reception. I've read that some of you guys are using Las Olas and others are using the Bamboo Room (what is that by the way? I didn't see it in any of the info she sent). Thank you!
  22. Has anyone posted pictures of the reception locations? I want to put a potential date on hold and need to choose a location. I love the gazebo for the ceremony but I'm not sure what my best options are for the reception (no beach). Hoping for 75-ish people. Thanks all!
  23. February is supposed to be perfect weather there...I wish I could say that for October, which is when we're looking. I'll be praying to the weather gods for the next year!!! How many people are you expecting at your wedding?
