You can do anything you want and if heading to a restaurant for dinner and to the disco after is what you want to do... then do it! Best of luck with all your plans. Congratulations and welcome to the forums! Of course... living in Playa del Carmen I will favor this area! I have also travelled to Punta Cana... and while the beaches are as beautiful there. The biggest difference is you won't find any "town life" in Punta Cana. The area is mainly made up of mega size resorts and day trips out. The part of the Dominican that does have small towns to visit is called Puerto Plata. The downside to that part of the Dominican are the beaches are not white like in Punta Cana or the Mayan Riviera. I do love Puerto Plata area, as that is where my parents live, but not the best place for a wedding. To me, the Mayan Riviera has the best of all worlds. Especially being located in Playa del Carmen! Such a wonderful town and lots of entertainment for everybody. Beaches here are fantastic and you can venture out on your own and be safe. Best of luck with all your planning. I love shooting weddings at the Barcelo... there are so many locations there that you should be able to have fun with your wedding group! I have been to some weddings, at all inclusives like the Barcelo, that just grab an open area and make a party! Sure... you may not have drink and food service... but who cares! You can find a bar just around the corner and you have to get it yourself. You can bring your own music and make a party happen. If enough of you show up at one spot... you will take it over and have a blast and not cost you anything. Best of luck with your plans.

There are some mosquitoes right now.. but they usually only come out for a short time at sunset. The Mayan is generally pretty good. Some people also get eaten up by the sand flies... and again... they come out a night in the sand. I have had one can of bug spray for the past 2 years here... and have no idea where it is right now! haha That should count for something. You have to remember... it doesn't cool down at night like it does during the summer in Alberta... so mosquitoes are prevelant during the wet months here. Nov is not one of those months.

Hola my fellow Albertian! Im not sure if the new resorts will offer you a honey moon package but you can always contact them and ask! A lot of couple move their second week to a new resort and the service of an adults only is usually top of the line! I love those resorts here in the Mayan Riviera... from the El Dorados to Secrets Maroma. They are simple a step above the rest.

Congratulations and welcome to the forums! I recently shot a wedding at NOW Jade... great resort! We did a beach wedding but it was located right in front of the pool area so not so private. They do have a wonderful garden area and gazebo that would probably give you the most privacy!
