Maybe have them look out for an iguana? I saw about 15 when I was there for 2 days! There's also a VIP beach area, a rock climbing wall... It might also be fun to have 'em look for certain things about people (which could vary, but if you keep it general and kind of silly, it could be fun)... like look for a worker whose name starts with J or a super sunburnt guest... I don't know, stuff like that maybe?

I was just there a few weeks ago and we definitely tipped with US money without any problem. Also, most of the other items you could probably charge to your room and use a CC to pay for it if you want (but watch out, most CCs charge a 3% internaitonal fee).

I've heard that you can only make reservations upon arrival, but check with your WC. If you're planning to take an entire group, they might make an exception.

When I was in Mexico a few weeks ago, the bugs were ridiculous at night... especially if you're going to the Golf area for dinner or something. And I attact mosquitos like none other, so I def got bit a few times... I think you're fine around the bars and stuff but if you stray a little, it gets pretty bad.

So I have a couple thoughts of things to include: Newsletter Bug Spray Sunblock Cheap Sunglasses (like the kiddy ones from the $1 store) Gum Body Wash (they only have soap in the rooms and a lot of people like body wash) Safety Pins Squirt Gun or Bubble Gun Stuff like that. I haven't shopped for any of it, so I'm sure it'd get pricey, but I'm just keepin' track of ideas for when I'm ready to go shopping. What are you putting in yours?

Hi Angela, Are you planning on making the OOT bags before you get there? I'm taking all of my stuff with me and then making the OOT bags when I arrive, so I was planning on just asking the front desk for a bunch of pocket maps (because they do give these out to guests) and stick them into my OOT bags. Also, just an idea that we're doing -- so we're creating a newsletter type of brochure to put into the OOT bags as well (our wedding's not until November, so I don't have one to show you), but in that newsletter, we're going to have a section about "Where's the Bride & Groom" -- basically, we're planning to just pick a pool area/beach area everyday and let our guests know that's where we'll be so they can come hang out with us if they want. If they want to do their own thing that's totally fine too, but figured, I don't want my guests to walk around all day looking for us... we'll do the same thing about a bar at night.

Is Maya Disneo cheaper than the resort's flowers?

If you qualify for the unlimited private functions, doesn't that automatically include a 4-hour bar for free? So if you did a "true" private event, then the only thing you'd be paying for is set up per person plus decor (the food and drinks should be free for up to 4-hours per day). At MP Cancun, there's a VIP Beach Bar near Sunrise that is pretty private. It closes at 8pm, but I was told you could use it after 8pm -- may not technically be a private event, so people could come in and out, but honestly if theres a big group of people that already all know each other and a few stragglers come in, I doubt they'd stick around too long... but that way, the bar/decor is free (so no need to pay for that)... Just a thought.

I'm talking to Zuniga about decor prices, are there other decor companies that MP uses? Or does MP have an exclusive contract with Zuniga? Does anyone know? I suppose that's a question for the WC (when I get one), but figured I'd ask in the meantime...

Do you guys know what types of chairs MP has and how much they cost to use them?

On a seperate note, is it true that I'll only get a WC assigned to me 3 months before the wedding?! I need to start planning my decor and all of the other private events starting now. Will I have a WC to work with me? Even if I have to wait a week at a time for a response, I guess that's fine, but as long as someone's around to coordinate this stuff...

Oh I see, so it has to be a blocked group of rooms thought right? My TA is actually getting better rates from her wholesalers, meaning it'd be cheaper for my guests to book through my TA on a first-come first serve basis. Meaning if they wait too long, the prices will go up. Obviously, the upside to booking a block is we're holding the rooms at that price for our guests... I think if the TA books rooms on her own without a blocked group of rooms, then the promotion doesn't count. I FWD'd the email from the sales rep to confirm this. We haven't technically signed the contract yet... so they're still being responsive to me! Haha! I know once I sign, it'll be weeks at a time before I hear from my WC.

So quick question ladies, when I went for my site visit, the sales rep who took us around said that if we get 75 room nights booked, then we'd get unlimited private events. Does that mean my group has to book the rooms with MP directly, or will that same promo work for us if we use a TA?

Hi Kristibear, I just visited last week (in Jan 2011). The pools were def cold, but, once you're in, it's fine. It was 80 and sunny so we def got hot sitting in the sun, so then the pools felt great! We're doing Nov 26th 2011. Haven't officially booked, we're workin on the contract now...

Hi ladies, FYI, I posted two site visit reviews on the following pages for MP Riviera Maya. I tried to include as much relevant info and pictures. For my ceremony/reception site review & pictures: Gazebos: There were 2 gazebos & 1 chapel gazebo. The 2 are Bugambilias and Tucan. I liked Tucan because 1) it has a really long aisle for my enterance, and 2) it's close to the Grand section and further away from Sunrise & Nizuc; which to me means that less people are going to be around. Our ceremony is 3 hours or so (traditional Indian wedding), and the Bugambilias gazebo is really close to the motor sports area, so the WC told me that we shouldn't be surprised if we see boats, jetskis, parasails, etc in the background in the ocean during our ceremony... So for us, that kinda sealed the deal on the Tucan Gazebo. This is Bugambilias: This is the aisle at Tucan: This is Tucan: Beach: I didn't ask much about this, but FYI the decor company Zuniga was setting up a bunch of things on the beach when we were there, and honestly, they can build you pretty much anything you want; so you can use the set up they have already there, or create your own (except, I don't know how expensive Zuniga is; I'm awaiting a price list from them as we speak...) I think this wedding's reception was held in the gazebo/lawn area: Here's the horse & carriage we saw: Terraces: There all pretty much blank canvases, and you can decor as much as you'd like. Here are a few: Lake Terrace: Bugambilias Terrace (I think): This is in the front of the Gazebo (away from the water). Tucan Terrace: This is behind its Gazebo, toward the water. Ballrooms: We have a pretty big party and will be having 2 events in ballrooms, so we checked out the following: Star Ballroom: This is in the Sunrise Lobby 2nd floor. There are 3 sections to this room (this is only 1 section) -- so they can partition it to where you have 1, 2, or all 3 sections open. Carey Ballroom: This is in Nizuc's lobby main floor. Ladies, so I went down to MP Riviera Maya to check out the resort for our Nov 2011 wedding. We are having a traditional Indian wedding, so we were looking for some very specific things. I've included my overall resort notes below with a bunch of pictures (sorry in advance for the super long post!) -- my next post will be about the ceremony/reception sites we looked at. Def let me know if you have any questions, happy to help anytime! First of all, we had no trouble booking our transfer to the hotel (for free) on their website and finding the drivers at the Cancun airport. We stayed at MP Sunrise; the lobby was beautiful! Everyone was so nice when we checked in, but we were annoyed that everyone has to wear wristbands (anyone going for the wedding will have a white one)! The work around for pics is that you can cut off your wristband, hold on to it, and then take it back to the lobby to trade it in for a new one when you're ready. They told us that we'd have trouble getting food/drinks anywhere in the resort without the bands... annoying, but workable. We're actually going to see if they'd let us wear them on our ankles while we're there so we don't have to worry about it too much and cause the inconvenience for our guests... We ended up staying in a Superior Deluxe room (the cheaper ones were sold out already). The rooms were really nice -- marble floors, granite counter tops, really big glass shower, jacuzzi for two, balcony w/ a hammock, liquor mini bar... you can definitely tell the resort was built 10+ years ago, but it's still really nice and well maintained. Also, as an FYI, there is free wi-fi and free calling to the US & Canada all over the resort. And the safe in each room is pretty big (I was able to fit my 15" laptop, wallets, cell phones, passports, jewelry boxes, etc.). Note too that there were NOT iPod hookups in every room; we didn't have one... The doors are also pretty thin so you could hear people talking in the hallways, but it wasn't too bad. We walked around the resort and noticed that the pools aren't heated, nor are there any hot tubs outside. They said the only hot tubs are in the rooms... The beach was awesome! The sand is white and powdery soft (not rocky at all), and the water is very blue with pockets of turqouise, so pretty! The pools in Sunrise were HUGE! And there was a lot of stuff to do around/in them (i.e. ping pong in the pool, volleyball, etc). They also had a ton of entertainment, music and of course, the swim up bars -- or you could go over to the Nizuc pool which was still nice with a swim up bar, but much quieter. There were some fun bars. The pool bars of course are always fun, but there's also this cute bar, called Columpios Bar (or Swing Bar) by the pool area; it's very cute and played hip-hop Top 40 music most of the time... The disco was also very fun, played a lot of fan favorite music and stays open until 3am, so we'll likely head there after our reception for the after party! Lastly, the food. The food was pretty average (as it is in most all-inclusive resorts). However, please keep in mind that we are vegetarian, so we did not try any of the meats... Other people have said the food's really good! Being vegetarian (and knowing that 75% of our guests are vegetarian) we were looking for options and found some good ones, but it wasn't the best food I've ever had in my life. The breakfast at El Gondola in the Sunrise Lobby was GREAT -- tons of options! Many of the lunch places were very average, but there is a brick-oven pizza spot right by the pool area which was very good as well. For dinner, we took a golf cart over to taste Bambu and La Trattoria in the Golf section. Both of those restaurants were pretty good... here are some pics of the different places. Hope this helps!
