  1. Love this!! Do you guys think this would look good on a square tiered cake too?!
  2. Ladies, question about the cake situation. We are interested in the cake below, has anyone ordered it? My question is, that it says $280 but does that mean I have to get the flowers here? Or will they change the flowers based on our color scheme at the reception for no charge? Also, does anyone know how many people this cake serves? Thanks!
  3. OMG, after pining through ALL of my emails regarding photography... I realized IT'S NOT SASCHA who's charging crazy... it's Del Sol! Ha, my bad!! I'm clearly getting super confused with all of these vendors... Thanks anyway ladies -- now I remember that we ruled out Sascha because he had never done an Indian wedding before... sorry for the confusion!
  4. So, this is super weird because Sascha is charging me a RIDICULOUS amount of money to do our photography -- so much so that it's cheaper to fly in our top choice photographer from NYC than to go with him... and they're not staying over night... They want me to move my events around so they're closer together and they won't have to go back and forth... So needless to say, I was a bit annoyed -- so I'm pretty sure we're going to just fly our photog in...
  5. Congrats Shelby! Can't wait to hear all about it and see your pics!!
  6. Do you know who your coordinator is? Maybe try calling them?... not sure how they'd respond to that though.
  7. Quick question -- this is probably a really stupid question... But, if we hire La Luna or Del Sol photography/videography... we have to pay the outside vendor fee, right? Because they are not affilitated with MP? Thanks!
  8. Totally agree! Keep insisting! I too am 7 months out and have my locations booked... just tell them you know other brides who've done it...
  9. That is 100% true. There is free calling to the US and Canada. There is also free wi-fi.
  10. Thanks! I actually looked at La Luna and Del Sol, but I don't think they've ever done Indian weddings before, so that's why we're bringing our own photographer, but I'm willing to chance it a little more on videography... So, when I said we're bringing all these people with us, they're coming for multiple days (i.e. hair/makeup, photographer, musicians, priest, etc) and will be staying as guests at the hotel... so technically not outside vendors at that point... the only exception they made for us (so far) is the caterer. We are using a local Indian caterer that is just bringing in food for most of our events... I'll definitely check out DJ Mannia. I did hear about Maya Diseno Floral, but aren't they considered an "outside vendor"? So how do you go about using them? I guess I could get my bouquet and the bridesmaids bouquets through them and have them deliver "packages" to each person on the day of... but how about for centerpieces...?
  11. We have most of our locations finalized... trying to make a few changes, but this is what we have for now! We are expecting 150-200 people, so we had to get creative about where we could have all of our events... Welcome Party -- Sunrise Beach Garba (Traditional Indian dance party) -- Tortugas Ballroom Wedding & Lunch -- Tucan Gazebo, Terrace, and Garden Cocktail Hour -- Lake Terrace Reception -- Tortugas Ballroom (I'm hoping this gets moved to Star Ballroom) I've already been working with Zuniga to start talking about layouts in the ballrooms and starting to explain what kind of decor I want... so it's just now starting to come together! We're definitely flying in our photographer, hair/makeup/henna person, and possibly a few live musicians... but we're looking for local videography, dj services, and florists... any recommendations? I'm also very interested in what menu items you guys pick... we're bringing in an Indian caterer for some of our events/menu items, but then because we'll have the free events, we want to maximize the food off of the MP menu too... so def let me know what you pick!
  12. Yeah, we're actually leaning towards flying in our photographer too. Two of them are coming down together, so both flights, and room for mulitple nights is definitely adding up! I'm going to look at Sascha now too after reading these posts... but my big concern is whether or not they've ever shot an Indian wedding... if not, I'm very reluctant to use them because they won't know what parts of the ceremony are the most important to catch!... we'll see! Thanks for the info ladies!
  13. This is a really cute idea! If we do this, we might do it where we put pictures of us with each of our guests on a different page, so then the guest can find their picture with the bride and/or groom and sign there... I feel like that adds an extra personal touch! However, it definitely takes much more time trying to find pics of yourself with all of your guests!
  14. So I know Zuniga has them (they gave me a quote), but Zuniga's kind of expensive. We're using them for all of our other events, so I'm trying to get a handle on what MP has or doesn't have "in-house" before going to an outside vendor... thanks! I haven't heard from my WC... she said she'll "be in touch" and I haven't heard from her since. We definitely have time till our wedding, but we also have a ton of events to plan... so I'm getting antsy that she won't answer basic questions...
  15. Kyndall -- we had the same concern about MP... I posted this earlier, but not sure if you saw... in our OOT bags, we're putting in a newsletter type of thing that we're making. And we're going to have a section on "Where's the Wedding Party?" type thing... and each day, we're just going to pick a pool area and timing so people can meet there if they want... Like "Thursday 10-2, Sunrise Pool by the Swim Up Bar" etc. That kind of stuff... hope this helps!
  16. Does anyone know if MP has tiki torches? If so, do you know how much they cost & how much MP charges for set up? Or is this something I have to use an outside decor company for (i.e. Zuniga)? Thanks!
  17. akotha -- we're working with a TA and have given our guests a few room-types to choose from, some in Nizuc and some in Sunrise. So the guest will pick what section they want to stay in, and I've told my TA exactly which buildings I want them to be in for each section. So when she books the room, she'll give the WC a list of all the guests with requests for which bldg they want to be in... I heard that MP is really good about meeting the requests for wedding groups, so I'm hoping all my guests will be in the same place... To answer your question -- I'm sure you can request your WC to have all the rooms blocked in one section/bldg.
  18. Does anyone know what kinds of tables (shapes/sizes), chairs (types/colors), linens, china, etc. MP has available? I know the basic white stuff is included in the "free private events" but I'm wondering if they have other stuff and how much that costs; does anyone know? Zuniga has chairs and linens, etc, but they seem ridiculously expensive...
  19. Are any of you ladies staying seperate from your fiance the few days before your wedding and then getting a joint room on your wedding night? We are, and it seems like the only option (without having to pay single occupancy rates) is to bunk up with 1 other person each, and then swap on the wedding day... but that means we'd swap into Superior Deluxe rooms (i.e. the cheapest because that's where we're staying up until the wedding night)... The added complexity comes because we're getting a 1-BR suite as our "honeymoon" suite starting the wedding night -- so we'd both have to check in to this new room on the wedding day itself -- which isn't going to happen, because that's the LAST thing I want to worry about that day! Do you think the WC can help us with this? Any one else trying to figure this out? Or has anyone come up with a solution?!
  20. We're both Indian, but he's from North and I'm from South... and Indian weddings are a production in themselves, so throwing in the destination factor is making it a bit more challenging! We have 7 events to plan... And I was just informed that Cristina was assigned as our WC!! However, I haven't heard from her yet...I'm hoping to just give her a quick overview of what's going on, and then start chipping away with her and Zuniga to get everything planned out one event at a time! Holy moly, there's a lot to do! Haha!
  21. It'll so be worth it in the end! It's sooo pretty there! Don't stress -- it'll all come together soon enough! Haha -- this coming from the person that's been CRAZY wedding shopping in India the past two weeks trying to get everything picked and bought before I head back home on Monday!!! Ahhhhhh!!! I'd like to do another site visit now, haha!
  22. Hi Vettiebean -- so when we went for our site visit, they gave us the special $226/night rate, for 2 people UP TO 3 nights. We stayed all 3. Because of the discounted price, we did not get any of the resort credt promotion. But that does include everything else -- it's all inclusive, food, drinks, non-motorized sports, etc. We also set up a meeting to meet with a sales rep in the weddings dept (given we didn't have a WC assigned to us yet) -- that was only 1 day, so the rest of the time we were trying all the restaurants, walking around to see the resort, and just enjoying the beautiful weather and pool areas! So it takes a few days to get the room blocked with that rate because you have to fill out a form, then send it to your WC, who then has to get an official approval from the Hotel to get the rate. Then you have to fill out the CC form, THEN they'll send you the reservation confirmation. So after you get your confirmation, they send you a code. On the palace resorts website, there's a link to book transfers. When I put in my code, I booked my transfers for both my fiance and I, the site didn't ask for my CC info or charge me anything! I feel like it's supposed to be $10/person for roundtrip transfers (at least that's what the room contracts say for our guests...) -- I'm not fully sure what happened, but I didn't ask about it either... Hope this helps!
  23. I guess it's time for me to post... IT'S OFFICIAL! We are booked for our destination Indian wedding on November 26th, 2011 at MP Cancun!! Just signed the contract! Yayyyy!! Save the date and travel information goes out next week, so hopefully we'll get people to start booking soon! Woohooo!!
  24. You should totally be able to book ASAP. We booked all of ours for our November wedding and are still working out kinks in the room contract (I just signed the wedding contract yesterday)! We had a lot of back and forths because I didn't agree with the terms given in the standard contract... I had them change the language in several places... We did a site visit last month, and I booked all of my sites with the sales exec the day I got back -- we didn't even sign the contract yet. I also refused to let them put "3 mos before the wedding" in the contract to assign a WC. We have 7 events to plan, so I told them I need a WC assigned immediately and I put in my request for who I wanted... I just found out I'm working with Cristina -- just sent her an email to introduce myself and to get started on our events!
