  1. That sounds completely perfect, and exactly what we want
  2. Awesome, thanks. I guess it doesn't really matter, we're just doing a truly legal ceremony (the two legal marriage statements and pronouncement), signing the certificate and that's it. I'm still not happy about not doing it legally in Mexico, but $2000+ to get married legally = ridiculous!!!
  3. We bought our four bridesmaids their dresses (After Six 6574) and robes from Pretty Plum Sugar (my mom and FSMIL are getting robes as well) We purchased the attire for our four groomsmen as well (vests and pants, from J.Crew) and FI is taking the guys, along with his dad and mine, on a private chartered fishing trip through Baja Raiders www.bajaraiders.com We spent A LOT (just over $3000), but it is literally the least we can do for our amazing group!!! Less than two months to go!
  4. Can everyone do me a favour? We've had a last minute change of plans and are planning on LEGALLY getting married here (secretly!) in Calgary before we leave for Cabo. Please, please, PLEASE post who you JoP was, and if you liked them! You are all awesome. How's next Tuesday (June 7th) for everyone to meet up?
  5. Hey ladies, Just wondering if anyone is game for a meet-up sometime soon? Now that Sandi and Nat's weddings have happened, I know that I would love to hear all about them! I imagine most of the past brides from earlier this year are not coming on here that much anymore, now that their weddings are over! Tuesdays/Thursdays work best for me. Looking forward to seeing everyone again soon! Natalie
  6. Cool! I bought the ones that are already done that Gartner Studios makes (from Staples of all places!): They're on clearance right now 20 place cards (shells) come in the box for $14. I think they have them at Michaels as well: http://www.michaels.com/Beach-Natural-Place-Cards/e08811,default,pd.html
  7. We're getting married at Dreams Los Cabos in July 2011. We got terrible rates for TA's so we had all guests book on sales via Expedia. From Toronto out guests booked 7 nights for $1500-$1700, from Edmonton & Calgary our guests booked from $1100-1450. We're very, very happy with the amount everyone ended up spending, compared to the rates we were being quoted (from $1800-$2200, depending on gateway location).
  8. Holy moly! $20 per kilo?! Glad we're flying Westjet ($20 for first checked bag, $50 for bags 3 & 4). I'm thinking we'll probably have 3-4 suitcases of decor (no OOT bags, that would be ridiculous!). We're grabbing a small welcome gift in Cabo for our guests before they arrive (we get there 2 days before everyone else).
  9. Thanks Trisha!!! DEFINITELY gets me excited for my wedding! Only two months to go!
  10. Congrats Azadeh!!! Can't wait to hear all about it!!!
  11. Yaaaaaaaaaaaaay Sandy!!!! The pictures are AMAZING!!! You look gorgeous my dear! And the TTD?! Holy sexy, lady! I am definitely in for a meet-up soon! I'm heading to Sasquatch (the music festival) this Thursday through Tuesday May 31st. I'm doing bootcamp on Mondays/Wednesdays, so Thursday June 2nd works for me. I know Eryn (BeachBrideSoon) said she would come to the next meet-up, too, and M/W are no good for her either. If not June 2, the following week (June 7 or 9) works for me. Sunshine, trying on is soooooooo much fun! I'm definitely a curvy bride (boobs & bum!), and there was lots to try on. I purchased from Cameo & Cufflinks (ask for Brandie!), who put me in a shape I had never thought of, and fell in love with! My dress is a fit and flare style (Alvina Vallenta 9913).
  12. It will come!!! How long ago did you order your dress? Mine took almost seven months.
  13. Letterpress printing is a printing technique which has been in use in the West since around the 15th Century (Gutenberg used it to manufacture his version of the Bible). It involves locking movable type into the bed of a press, inking it, and rolling or pressing paper against it to form an impression. It's a very time-consuming process, as each invitation needs to be hand fed through the machine. It results in an indentation on the front side of the invitations, and raised print on the back.
  14. Good news ladies!!! After SEVEN looooooong months, I finally got the phone call I'd been waiting for today: My wedding dress has finally arrived! Woooooooohooooooooo! I went straight after work today to try it on, and am more in love than ever!!! It's going to need some pretty extensive alterations (yay bootcamp!!!!), but I'm so happy Hope everyone is doing well!
  15. Just got the phone call...my dress is in!!!! Woohoo!!!!
  16. It's pretty hot (highs of 33 degrees C, lows of 27); low humidity; no rain. Apparently the humidity spikes mid-August through October.
  17. I think an extra hour will definitely give you a lot more breathing room. At my sister's wedding last summer, they had 1.5 hours to get pictures for the two of them, and ended up missing most of their cocktail hour as the schedule did not go as planned (inclement weather); at my BF's wedding, I was dragging her and her husband back into the limo after 1.5 hours as well! Remember, the MOST IMPORTANT pictures you'll take away from the day are of you and your husband-to-be, so make sure to leave ample time to get the photos you want (and deserve!!!).
  18. I'm not a post-bride either, but I'm with krsmith and JayKay on this one - 3 hours seems very, very rushed. You'll need 1/2 hour for ceremony, at least a half hour to get pics organized of BP and those joining (a group photo op?), another hour at least for you and your groomie, and then pics of cake cutting, toast, etc....time will fly! We're having three hours for our day after session alone!!! I'm a picture nut though
  19. Omg the sock monkeys take the cake - literally! Here's ours! It was designed by LollipopWorkshop on Etsy (they were able to customize my dress, my FI's suit, and even added the twine detail to tie in our wedding theme!). Definitely a keepsake
  20. Sandi where are you?! We know you're back, and are waiting with baited breath to hear all about your big day! Details ASAP!!!
  21. I follow A LOT of blogs out of Southern California (Green Wedding Shoes is a daily read; I would DEFINITELY check it out if you haven't already - www.greenweddingshoes.com). Before I even got engaged last year, I came across photos of Mary's that were featured, and a video of Scott's. I knew instantly that they would be our photo/video team. Originally we were planning on getting married in Calgary, and were going to fly them here, but things worked out even better when we decided to get married in Cabo, since it's only a short flight away (and MUCH more economical than flying the Floataway team to Calgary!). To fly in someone from Calgary would have cost 2-3x more than flying someone in from California (as it's much closer, so flights are cheaper). Also, I've found that because the photography industry in California is so saturated, we were able to get a top notch team for much less money than had we hired someone from Calgary (I find the photographers here are very, very overpriced for the style we were going for - ie. Buffy Goodman, OrangeGirl, etc). We are so, SO excited to work with them. Their work is amazing, and we know we won't be disappointed!
  22. Ugh, I feel your pain! My dress isn't in yet, either It's been almost 7 months!!! They said it should be here by the end of May/beginning of June. I have knots in my stomach about it!
  23. Hey Sunshine! We are also bringing our photographer/videographer to our wedding, albeit they are not from Calgary (we hired them from Los Angeles). Photography was hands-down the most important element for me, so when I began looking into who we were going to hire, geography was not really an issue - I just picked the team I liked the best (within the price range we were willing to spend, of course!). If you're interested, I'm using Floataway Studios (www.floatawaystudios.com). If you are set on hiring someone out of Calgary, I would definitely recommend White Dress Photography. They did our engagement session, and the pictures turned out wonderfully! You can see them here: http://whitedressblog.com/2010/10/greg-natalies-e-session/ Natalie
  24. I'll take the luggage tags!!!! I live in Calgary, I can swing by where ever to grab them!
  25. Cherazi, thanks so much for posting updates!!! I would love to get the info for your cigar roller guy when you get back. I'm not sure if we want to get an actual cigar roller, or just cigars, but this is a good place to start! Also congrats ShawnaRochelle! Great news, and great choice on resort!
