  1. @kellygrrrl - I see my response didn't show up! To answer, there was NO WIND in Cabo, which made it perfect for lanterns (and so, SO hot!). We did ours right on the beach, on the resort property.
  2. @ J and G 2012 Our best man did us a huge favour and took them with him when he flew down to Mexico (we went down 2 days before everyone else, with 6 pieces of luggage). He didn't have an issue on the Canadian side, but DID on the Mexican side - they thought he was bringing them in for resale! He explained, and they didn't really hassle him!
  3. I just did these at Dreams Los Cabos, and my WC helped with the setup and execution! I'm sure the RIU will do the same
  4. Hey everyone, a couple people have asked so just to confirm: I got my lanterns at www.theskylantern.com They shipped in a box of 36 from Michigan, for $99 plus shipping $31 via Fedex (I had these rushed as they were a last minute decision!). Some people have asked "how big are they?!". In the box, they were flat and individually wrapped, so super easy to get to our destination. When they were unwrapped, they were MUCH bigger than I expected....THIS WAS A GOOD THING. In order for them to make an impact, they need to be BIG! There is a video right on the home page of the website I ordered from that shows a "how-to" and you'll see how big they are when out of the package and fluffed up. They look AMAZING when lit up in the sky. Above everything else at our wedding (except me crying as I walked down the aisle towards my now husband, and making all 37 of our guests cry, too!) this is what everyone has been talking about from our wedding. My photographer showed me pictures right off of her camera the next day at our day-after shoot, and I CANNOT wait to show you. If you can do one thing at your wedding that is a bit above and beyond, this should be it!!! Natalie
  5. Thanks hunny! That's too bad about the lanterns Our resort had tons of palapas on the beach as well, and it wasn't an issue...
  6. I am married too! We're still at Dreams, but I couldn't resist as I just got these teasers from our photographer!!!
  7. Ok, I'm still at Dreams BUT I just got this teaser from my photographer and couldn't resist I'll post more when I get back I promise!!!
  8. Hey everyone! Seeing as I was the thread starter, I thought I would report back! We DID just use these at our wedding in Cabo on Wednesday. The lanterns are HUGE! My coordinator had two resort staff + herself unwrapping the lanterns on the beach to hand out to my 35 guests. They had 4 kerosene cans lit in the sand to light them fast and easily. I think almost all but maybe 1-2 went up in the air and they were AMAZING! My photographer took 100+ photos, but my wedding was just past Wednesday (I am still in Mexico!) so we won't see pics for a while. The next morning the whole buzz from the guests and the entire resort was over these lanterns!!! DO it!!!
  9. Hey everyone! Here's a teaser pic from my wedding (more to come!). Would love to meet up when we get back from our honeymoon. To confirm with all the sky lantern ladies, we DID just do these at our resort in Cabo, my best man DID carry them on board as carry on luggage with a bit of hassle, the resort set up kerosene cans for us to light them, and they turned out AMAZING! This is the biggest thing people are talking about from our wedding!!!
  10. A shout out to the old crew (CanadianSandy, MissNatalie, Lindslou, CookieMunckin)...Greg & I leave in the morning! Cabo here we come
  11. It's finally my turn!!! We leave for Cabo in the morning and I cannot wait! 6 suitcases, 2 carry-ons, my laptop bag, THE DRESS...I hope the airport is ready for us!!!
  12. I can confirm that mine were shipped flat! They all came individually wrapped in a plastic wrapper.
  13. Sigh, I love parasols. We have so many wedding day "props" I had to draw the line at these. Love them.
  14. I haven't talked to my coordinator about it, but I assume since they're biodegradable, it should be ok. 10 days to go, so we'll see!
  15. lol yes, watching the Bachelorette triggered this idea Also, for any that saw The Hangover 2, they released these at the end of the movie (the end of the wedding on a beach in Thailand!). I ordered them from www.theskylantern.com. I ordered them on Monday night, and we are leaving this Thursday. I called the number listed to make sure they'd get to me on time before I ordered them, and the guy who runs the company put my order through immediately. It was probably midnight his time!!! I should get them by Tuesday! I'll post pics from our wedding and the lanterns!
  16. hahaha I remember how happy I was once I could open templates You'll get there soon ladies! Just keep posting!
  17. I get my ring cleaned at our jeweller about once a month. Definitely makes gives it that extra sparkle! Our jeweller suggested that I clean it with Mr. Clean anytime I'm not able to get into him. I tried it (literally submersed my ring in a cup of Mr. Clean for about 10 minutes) then gave it a quick scrub with an old toothbrush and voila! Sparkly sparkly!
  18. So, I had planned on doing the sparkler exit at the end of our wedding, but I saw something pretty near recently: sky lanterns! So I ordered up a case of these bad boys and each of our guests will get to release one at the the of our reception. Has anyone used these at a wedding before?
  19. Absolutely, positively NO WAY! There were rumours about this happening at my resort (Dreams LC) for photographers last year when I booked, but I got it in writing that it was a-ok. That would have been an absolute deal breaker for me. Who we hired for photo and video was the single most important decision in the whole wedding process; if I had been limited in any way, I would not have chosen that resort.
  20. BONDGIRL - those pieces are so beautiful!!! I bought these beautiful robes for my bridesmaids as gifts, by PlumPrettySugar: My mom and FI's stepmom are getting gorgeous long ones, and then each of my bridesmaids and myself will get a different coloured one. www.plumprettysugar.com
  21. We're getting married at Dreams Los Cabos in two weeks, and this is a breakdown of our costs: Dreams Ultimate Package: $2800 Cost of additional guests (package includes 20): $1440 DJ: $1250 Photographer & Videographer: $5000 Flights/Accommodation for Photographer/Videographer: $1100 Florist: $1600 less resort credits, $1100 Hair/Makeup (Trial/Day of/Day after shoot, plus tax/grat for BMs and MOB/MOG): $900 Dress (plus alterations, shoes, veil): $4425 ***GIFT FROM PARENTS*** Grooms attire: $600 Groomsmen attire: $1100 Bridesmaid attire: $800 Gifts for bridesmaids/MOB/MOG: $650 Gifts for groomsmen/FOB/FOG: $1100 Guest THANK YOU Sunset Catamaran cruise: $1300 Decorations/Rentals: $2500 That brings us to a grand total of $21640. That does not include my wedding day attire, as it was a gift. That also doesn't include our wedding bands ($5000), our cost for the 10 nights in Cabo with flights ($4200) and our two-week honeymoon in California ($6000). If we did include those, it would be closer to $37000. We're really lucky to have amazing families who have helped above and beyond. My parents hosted an engagement party for us in February (about 100 people) and our in-laws are hosting and AHR in August when we get back from our honeymoon (about 250 people). Between those two parties, the three bridal showers that have been thrown for me, as well as wedding gifts we've been receiving from family, we've more than covered the cost of our destination wedding, as well as had our registries purchased almost in full for our new house! My advice to any brides-to-be would be to definitely stick to your guns with what you want, but to negotiate with vendors!!! We've saved thousands by discussing discounts with vendors in Mexico, and they've been more than happy to oblige - we're bringing 40 guests to their resort! Second would be to pick your battles with your FI!!! The ideas I had for decor (although stunning!), MAY have been a bit over the top. When he saw me diy-ing through many of my projects, he was happy to concede on the things I literally could not do myself (anyone know how to MAKE a tiffany chair for less than the $8 our hotel is charging us?!). Only two weeks to go!
  22. My budget (given to me by my amazing and generous parents) was $5000. My dress came in at bout $3200, my shoes were $350, my veil was $525, and my alterations were $350. That brought me in under budget at $4425. Pictures below of my wedding day attire - just over two weeks to go!
  23. Hey everyone, Dreams Los Cabos was voted best affordable all-inclusive resort by Travel + Leisure magazine! Here's the article: http://www.travelandleisure.com/articles/best-affordable-all-inclusive-resorts/8 Natalie
  24. I had a guest ask at my shower over the weekend what was appropriate for attire. I told her that summer evening dresses for women and a shirt/pants would be appropriate for men. She said that her husband had purchased dress shorts, and "Would that be ok?". NO THAT WOULD NOT BE OKAY!!! Holy putting me on the spot, Batman! I had to politely answer that this was our wedding reception, and I was in no way expecting a suit, or even a sportcoat for the men, but that linen or cotton pants would be a great option. "So, you want us to return them?" was the response I got. I told her to tell her husband to wear whatever he felt comfortable in, but that the rest of our guests would be wearing summer formal clothing, and changed the subject. I promptly posted this on our website afterwards, in our Wedding FAQ section: What should I wear to the wedding? Resort formal attire is appropriate for our wedding ceremony and reception. For Women: summer evening dresses, formal sundresses, sandals. For Men: long pants (cotton or linen will be very breathable for the hot Cabo weather!) and a button down shirt (short sleeve or long). Ties and jackets are not necessary! I really, REALLY, wanted to put the following as well, but my FI stopped me: "Beach Chic"/"Resort Attire" does not mean Hawaiian shirts, shorts, daytime sundresses, beach cover ups, flip-flops, halter tops, tube tops or tank tops, capris, short skirts or anything you'd wear to a casual picnic or beach day. Lol. Probably a bit snarky. And he was probably right
  25. Thanks! That twisted sister hairstyle from LC (via Ashley) is like a step by step! Amazing! Click, save!! I have the same hesitations about going down the next day. I'll have a hair-tie ready to create a side-pony or something
