I second KRama. Tell whomever that the location you're getting married in is VERY small and can only accommidate 4 people. Are you really going to have anyone say they should be invited over your parents? Â I LOVE the idea of the JP doing it in the living room with your friends. I want my legal day to be very non-weddingy so that my "real" wedding day in November will still feel special. Did you know someone that was a JP? Or did you have to pay for someone to come to your house and do it? Â

Luckily, all of my 9 guests are able to make it to the wedding, but I think most couples understand that a DW is a big expense financially and time-wise and shouldn't get upset if guests can't make it.

Interesting article. I like the idea of incorporating local traditions, but I don't think I'm handy enough to sew my own dress! Maybe I could do the rum toasts instead.

I think planning ahead is key! you'll have a better chance of all your guests making it, as well as less stress for you as the date approaches. I'm aiming to have 99% of my "to dos" marked off my list 30 days before we leave.

Hi lindzNj   First of all, Congratulations on your engagement! It is going to be a very exciting fall for you.  Secondly, I'd recommend searching through the forum and reading the different threads to find the answers to your questions. Most everything you've asked has been addressed already in the different forums so I'm sure you can find your answers!  My recommendation is to start reading travel agent reviews, or contact the TAs on this site. They can work with you to find the right resort for you and your guests. I personally chose Dreams La Romana in the Dominican Republic because it fit best with my budget, but a good TA should help you find the resort for you.  Good luck and best wishes!  HermosaHoops

For those of you that have brought your own scripts, did the officiant just read from the paper then? I worry that it will be really impersonal to have them just read out loud to everyone, and not know anything by heart...

I like the hand ceremony. Simple and sweet, plus you don't have to bring anything extra down with you!

I figure, if people don't want to come, they don't have to. And if they are worried about the cost, they could always get you something small, or nothing at all. I'd just avoid inviting everyone you know. Bridal showers with >10 people always seem impersonal to me.

Thanks for the Target tip Gem! I'll have to go check there this weekend. I'm also adding big plastic glasses I got 4/$1 to the bags. I figure if people lose their nice mugs, at least they'll have a backup. That's nice to hear your guests still use the ones you gave them. I hope my parents at least hang onto theirs. Â

Good tip on the movie rentals. That might be good for us after the wedding when we're hiding in our room.

I'm going to have to work on remembering to lock my stuff up. We're planning on doing ipods instead of a dj and it would be pretty crushing if everything was stolen BEFORE the wedding... Â

I don't know if any of you are planning on doing OOT mugs, but I just bought these off Amazon. Â Â They are onsale for $6.76 from $12 and if you buy 3 you get 1 free. I was able to get 12 mugs for $60 with free shipping. I'm going to print out my wedding logo and people's names and insert them into the mugs. Â Since we only have 12 people coming to the wedding I was having a hard time finding a company that would do custom printing for small orders. I think these will work great instead!
