  1. We are getting postcards to put into our OOT bags with a little note. Please fill in a postcard with your favorite memories of the trip or well wishes for the couple and then have them put it into the mail. Â If you want the photobooth idea. Get a few cheap one use cameras/or a digital camera and set them up on a little table. Leave a note to ask guests to take a picture of themselves and leave a note with their well wishes. After the fact, you can get the film developed or the photos printed and you'll have a photobook. Good luck. Â
  2. We have the group rates in place til end of August. If the price goes down, we are locked in with the original price. Different contract, I would guess. Every carrier likely has it's own promotions, etc. Hope you find a price that will work! Â We are getting married at the end of January, so we are about 4 months ahead of you. Don't worry about numbers, when it starts to grow, it starts to grow. I was worried about it...and in the last week people have been booking (mind you our early bird group deadline is August 31). Â
  3. We were in a very similar situation as you...had narrowed it down, both resorts had everything we wanted. The big difference for me was the size of the resort. Azul Sensatori has 440 rooms. While Dreams is much larger, I think it was 700 rooms. While this can help with pricing or reserving a large number of rooms, my FI and I really wanted a smaller venue. So we choose the Azul. We did a site visit in April and loved the resort. Hope that helps. I know the decision is hard. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. Good luck!
  4. Great job! We have 7 kids coming so far and counting....might have to borrow a few of these ideas.
  5. Your TA should be able to give you prices for BOTH- a package deal, or hotel only rates. If they are only giving you hotel rates, look around for another TA who can be more helpful. Â Sorry to hear about this. I know it would be really hard to change your wedding date, but could your TA call the resort and see if another date is available for your wedding (just in case there is not another flight)? Hope the TA finds another carrier who will work for you! Â
  6. I think you can do what you want. My FI has choosen shorts and a short sleeve dress shirt for his GM. But he surprised me by wanting to be dressed up himself, he has choosen a white linen suit! The wedding is as much his, as it is yours. Let him choose what he would like to wear, but maybe draw the line at board shorts LOL! You may be very surprised at what he chooses, I know I was. Here's the photo of the GM clothes.
  7. That's fantasitic Abbie! I am glad all your running around paid off! We had a hard time too, and finally got a great price. Hopefully most of your guests who are going will take this great offer, and not wait for the last minute. Â We did a group booking, so we had to put a deposit down to hold seats/rooms. But for the price we got we were happy to do it. I think this is the only way to hold rooms for you, mind you, if people don't book by the specific date, you will likley lose your deposit. Â As for pricing. We just kept trying....our TA would get an updated price every week, and finally we got a great price. I know it's frustrating, but keep trying. (We starting price shopping in Feb, got our price locked in late May, and the wedding is in January) Good luck! And if you're using Funjet, try Apple vacations.... Â
  8. Love the dress and jewelery! I would add that touch of color to make it yours!
  9. We are also doing turquoise, green, white. Only change will be the flowers which will be white, purple, and pink (a tribute to my mother, she has been sick for almost 4 years, and those are the colors from her wedding bouquet). And FI loves the idea of pink....so he is wearing a pink shirt and the GM will have pink flowers to tie it all together. Still don't have many plans for the center pieces....I'll start on that some day LOL! Â Hi Lisa!
  10. Could you PM your email address please? Not sure I can send a Word document on the forum. Â
  11. I just sent you some samples of our travel information to your email. Hope it helps. Â
  12. Congratulations! So happy everything went well. Can't wait to see the pictures.  We didn't really like the photo style and looked for other local photographers. But after figuring out prices , details, etc. we choose to fly our photographer in with us. taylorjackson.ca It all depends on what you need and the style you want. We wanted the photographer to take pictures at our welcome cocktail party, the wedding and a TTD. It was easier for us to just bring someone, than deal with having to pay for one locally 3 times. Good luck. The prices we found could range from $1100 to $12000. A few local ones we liked: www.momentsthatmatterphotography.com www.cancunphotography.com  Can't remember who asked....about the hair makeup. From a few girls that have mentioned it, most seemed to be fairly happy with the salon there. I know there is a bridal package that includes a practice updo, and then hair/makeup on your wedding day. At the last minute we have a close friend who is joining us who is a professional hair stylist and she offered to do my hair. But originally I had planned on using the salon. Â
  13. We wanted to do both, so we decided not to do elaborate invitations to save money, which then paid for the save the date magnets. I do think the email/evite STD is impersonal, and would not do it. Depending on when your wedding is, could you send out STD with your Christmas cards, to save some money? Or perhaps make a wedding website, and send an email to your friends and family to tell them about the website, where they could get information and hence know the wedding date. Your email could simply say: We are just beginning to start our wedding planning, here's our website, which we'll keep up to date.... etc. Then your website has a little info about the two of you, the proposal, where the wedding is planned, etc. and as more information comes in you can post it. For example:' The invitations will be mailed out soon'.' Booking deadlines', etc. There are many free websites, or ones which are fairly cheap depending on what you want. If you want to look at one: www.miriamandluke.com is ours. Â
  14. Oh dear! I hope you find out that it is a change for the better. Keeping my fingers crossed. Â It's a destination wedding...so anything goes. Give her a color you might like her to wear (or colors), and then let her choose something she is comfortable in. I agree with the other girls, try cocktail dresses, or even a really nice summer dress. (really depends on how fancy/formal your wedding will be). Don't feel you have to do anything traditional! Â We booked group rates for guests out of Toronto and Ottawa, about 15 months in advance. Our group rate was way cheaper than anything we could find online (but that might have more to do with our departure point). We have a bunch of guests from other parts of Canada and have done this: Â 1) get your TA to get you a good *land only rate* (ie cost for the hotel) 2) Westjet- call their group department and they offer a free code for you and your guests to use for an additional 10% off (not including seat sales and web deals). I know Westjet has direct flights to Cancun from Halifax and Moncton. 3) order private tranfers for your guests through Lomas tours (about $60 for a van that fits 6 passengers) Â You could also try Westjet vacations and see if they might offer you a better package deal (but not sure if they offer your specific resort or not.) Â I also know Westjet has direct flights from Saskatoon, Vancouver and Calgary. So maybe the idea above might work for you as well. Good luck! Â
  15. Are you just doing a visit (a few hours)? Or are you staying for a few days? We stayed for 4 days in April and they gave us a tour of the whole resort, and little taster drinks and a little bite at every restaurant. If you're wondering about the extra menu items for the private events, I don't think you can taste those...but overall everything we tried at the resort was good to excellent, so I am really not worried. Â
  16. We asked our guests to RSVP online as well...so far it's been hit or miss. Hopefully it will start picking up soon. We had included RSVP cards in our formal invite, which were enclosed in an envelope. We figured if they could not go online they could always mail it back. Our address was on the outside envelope. And perhaps if you specially know a few that would prefer to mail them, just include your address on the envelope and a stamp. Then it makes it easy for them. Â
  17. I will take a look for the dress, I know they were odd sizes only, so which would you rather have a 7 or 9 (if I find them)? Â
  18.  Thanks for all the kind words! Amy, the bottom is detailed lace and I absolutely love it! I think that the part that made me fall in love. Plus the lace is very Spanish in design- perfect for Mexico  The bridemaid dresses were from Smart Set. They were around early summer, and I am grateful I bought them when I did. What size do you wear taylorwd? If I see any around I'll grab one and mail it to you. They were about $50, but I expect they would be marked down by now!  Hmm...going to have to try this soon for some ideas! Thanks. Â
  19. The pictures work when you click on them! Looks like a beautiful wedding.
  20. So our groomsmen clothing arrived! We are doing a much more casual feel, the bridesmaids are wearing summer dresses in the blue color we are using. And the groomsmen are wearing shorts and short sleeve dress shirts. Much to my delight we found a shirt with our wedding colors in it! As well, my maid of honor was visiting, so I finally have some pictures of me in my dress. Please mind it is much to large in the top, and too long! But my seamstress will solve that in due time (I am hoping the photos work...this will be my first attempt...and I am not good with computers) Â LOL, thanks goodness there is an edit button. I don't think I am getting the photos to work sigh... Â Arrrggghhhh.....okay so I have a photobucket account. Uploaded the pictures...and now I am obviously lost. Any hints from anyone??? Yippppeee!!! I finally got it right....try #way too many! LOL
