  1. For the teenagers a magazine to entertain is always good. And candy/gum is always appreciated! Good luck.
  2. We already plan on renting a car for a few days like we did last time. I think the car was about $40/day, so well worth. I think your luggage rules must be different than ours. We have already upgraded our seats to get the 30kg allowance maximum. Not that much! So I am trying to watch my weight very careful. Â Surprised at the cake prices though... Â
  3. Is there another airport that you could try flying out of? Not familiar with your area, but I know that has helped us in the past. A few hours drive, a different airport, different airlines....keeping my fingers crossed for you. Â
  4. We are using the restaurant Allium. www.alliumrestaurant.com The venue is fairly small, so we are doing a stand up cocktail reception for about 50 people. I think it would seat 40-ish if you need a sit down spot. They do amazing food, specifically tapas! Very excited, plus the decor is very modern and clean...very much our style. I think our plan is a 2 hour cocktail party, with drinks and small food samples coming around on trays. Â If you live in Ottawa you HAVE to try their tapas on Monday nights! It's awesome. Good luck. Â
  5. Love that I'm not the only one having strange dreams. Two nights ago it was a horrible dream about the flight...and them not having enough seats. To the point that I had a lady sitting on my lap LOL! Hope these dreams finish for all of us soon! Â We are actually hosting 2....yes 2 'at home receptions'. FI has a huge family and many of them can't make the trip. So we will be having a cocktail party in Ottawa for the family. And then another cocktail party in Toronto for our friends. It is alot of extra work, but since it's just cocktail parties, I think it's a little more casual and laid back. Haven't been doing to much work on them yet. We have the venue for Ottawa, still looking for one here. (add that to my list of things to do...) Â
  6. Love the simple centerpiece. I plan on buying the stuff once I get down there to avoid extra weight. I think the cake is lovely! Did it taste good? Quote: Originally Posted by TLGnhci   Here's my dress!! I love it!! Beautiful! So happy for you. Â
  7. Okay so here are the pictures I have from our site visit in April. This first one is the adult pool.Outdoor reception venue...just setting up.Wedding Gazebo. Up by the buildings, over looking the ocean. My favorite spot. Little secluded cape under the palm trees looking over the water. But they could only fit a maximum of 20/25 people.Indoor ballroom venue....just in case of weather. One of the pools. The beach. The Palace is right at the end....and you can see the other sister resorts towards the right. The little wedding spot would be to the left of this picture.
  8. Wow! Great shots. I am doing the laterns too. Hopefully I'll get down to our 'chinatown' soon and get the same types of bargains. If not I might be sending an order your way LOL Â Congrats on finding your dress! Can't wait to see pictures. Â We have been planning since January too....I only found this forum in late May. It has been so helpful...wish I had found it sooner. Â
  9. Great review! And thanks for the little insight about bringing your own centerpieces and the price they charged you to set it all up! I was thinking about bringing my own Â
  10. I agree with nmurch...it really depends on your travel details. Our wedding is in January, but the package deal we got expired August 31. So we sent out invites in mid June. But we have plenty of guests coming from other cities, where our group rate does not apply. So they still got the invites in June, but we have set our RSVP to November (it's also the date that full payment for the group rate price is due, and close to when we have to finalize numbers with the resort. Â
  11. Wow, you have done a ton of work. And even though there's some left, you should manage it no problems! Only thing I would possibly add...check now that your passports are good to go. And getting any medications you may need to take with you. Good luck and keep us posted! Â We booked with Weddings By Oceans. We will be using Lomas for the decor at the wedding gazebo and flowers. But since FI and I are heading down a couple of days early, we had planned on buying some simple decorations to use as centerpieces. Much cheaper than what they offered. I will find out how much they will charge to set up. We are also bringing down paper laterns to decorate the area (the plan is 30, in turquoise, lime and white-10 of each). Right now I think we have about 21 guests out of Toronto, the rest from other locations. Can't wait! We'll talk more about sharing stuff! Â
  12. How old are the boys? After completing your marriage vows, perhaps incorporate a small promise of starting a new family together, and give them a small gift- a ring or necklace to symbolize this promise.
  13.  So I might be a little late, but I was going to vote for dress #2! Sounds like that's what you're going with now  We haven't really figured out what our total will be, so I can't help there. But we are flying in our photographer for $3500 total. And even though you might be at 20K, it's still less than 40K and the wedding you want. Wish I could help more with the other numbers, but I'm still figuring that one out myself.  thanks so much for the review! Beautiful pictures. I had planned on doing my hair at the salon, but my FI hairdresser is coming down with us, and will now be doing my hair and makeup
  14. Welcome! The Barcelo Palace is stunning. FI and I visited there in April as a possible venue for our wedding. It didn't quite fit for us, but I have a few pictures of possible wedding ceremony sites if you're interested. Personally I loved the small point, looking over the ocean, under the palm trees, but the site only fits for up to 25 people. Best of luck with your planning!
  15. Welcome back Maggie! Back to happy thoughts of sunshine and wedding We made sure our photographer was okay'd before we signed our contract. We are bringing someone with us, and we didn't want to pay the $500 penalty. From my understanding it's not even the resort that gets the $500 fee, it goes directly to Caribe/ or the other one, since they lost out on the wedding deal. So when you're dealing with the resort use that information to your advantage! Â
  16. Not a perfect list....but a least a start. http://weddings.about.com/od/destinationweddings/ss/destchecklist.htm Â
  17. Someone had found a small charm (where a photo could be inserted) to tie onto your bouquet. She had found them on ebay. Â
  18. We were at the Azul over the Easter weekend. I can only remember one very little sun shower, which lasted maybe 5 minutes. But it was very windy the whole week. Not sure how the weather in PV would be, but I think you'd be fine in Mexico at the time. Â
