Any brides from Canada?
murmel replied to Vic0214's topic in Destination Wedding in Riviera Maya, Cancun & surrounding areas
Another Toronto bride here. Getting married January 24, 2011 at the Azul Sensatori in Mexico. So far we have the BM's dresses, GM clothes, groom's suit, my dress, and 57 people booked and counting. As for other planning....it's starting, although I feel I might be a bit behind. Going in to see our TA about the plans on Thursday, she has been directly coordinating with our WC, which suits me just fine. In case anyone needs a TA in the Toronto area, Weddings By Oceans, has been helpful to us so far, and they have managed to get us a get price for our trip and help get us other discounts. Try Le Chateau (men's department) or Stars. (not sure if you have them in your area, but they carry almost any color) Good luck. -

Wish me luck. Almost there! So excited for you and hoping that everything worked out with the dress! Can't wait to see the photos.

My TA confirmed this morning Kiara has left. So now I am waiting to hear who my next WC is. Mind you, we really have not started the planning. All we have so far is the email with the links to the menus, flowers, etc. I can't wait to meet up and watch a few other weddings! What are you doing in terms of colors? I know we are using turquoise, green and white. I plan on bringing down laterns to hang for the reception. As for other details...haven't gotten there yet. LOL Welcome! Can't wait to see you there! We have to, to get what we want ladies!! I just want everyone to know that this site has been so great for me. I love coming home from work and connecting with other people who are going through the same thing. My FI is VERY happy too! Thank you all for being there! Great advice Michele! Once I have a new WC, I think I will try to arrange a conference call. And I agree with you about this being an amazing resourse. Most of my ideas, and knowledge comes from here. It keeps me in the 'know' , and then I can chase after my TA for the deals, and like now, trying to get assigned to a new WC.

Any 2011 Brides out there?

Sounds like a lot of fun....we had great plans to go hiking on Saturday (the day after the party), but that didn't happen- was still recovering! haa haa Love the spa idea  I agree. We are also asking everyone to not bring gifts! (plus we have too much stuff in the house as it is. We both lived alone, so when I moved in, we had double of everything.) FI mom and sister are planning a little shower for me in November. But since I don't want people spending a lot of money, we have agreed to make it a 'wine and sexy underwear' shower. Looking forward to seeing a lot of the family at the shower, since they were unable to attend the stagette. Quote: Originally Posted by michelle2011 Yes we feel the same and are just requesting the pleasure of their company and no gifts. (my guess is they will buy anyway but it makes us feel better asking for none ) I second that...but agree with you, there will always be those that bring something. I just really hope they don't bring anything heavy. Not sure how we would get it home. LOL  -

Which was hard for me...since I am a bit of a control freak. But I had an amazing time, and got to spend time with some of my friends which came from quite a distance to help celebrate. Is the Hen night a British name for the stagette? or more like a shower? I am sure we can help you with ideas if you need to plan it! -
I think I found "The One"!!!

I would have to place my vote for dress 1. I think the ruffles have so much character! Love it. Funny I ended up buying a Pronovias gown, not really pouffy, but very Spanish lace! Not a dress I would have thought of for down south, but I love it and it will be on the sand. http://72.232.198.18/manufcols/pronovias/pronovias2008spring/zoom/Deseo_B.jpg Go with the one you love and feel great in! We used ewedding.com , I liked that there were mulitple layouts, music, etc. We paid for ours (but they also offer free ones), because FI wanted a website name with just our names. So to find a website which allowed us to do this was tricky, and this one was reasonably priced. If you want to see our website, just PM me. I also know there are lots of others just do a google search and see what you find. Good luck.

Custom made tshirts for all...with embarrassing photos of me (of course!)LOL, a feather boa, and a hat with a number of d**** on top, plus I had to carry around a very large inflatable member for the evening. After the games, we had a limo take us downtown for a feast a one of my favorite Japanese restaurants. Then I was whisked off to a club where we had dance lessons, and then a show of singing and dancing transvestites. It was great fun! Mind you I might have been a little hung over the next day...and had a few bruises I couldn't explain LOL. -
Hello ladies! I was away in Newfoundland cleaning out my mother's house for a week, and can't believe how many pages I had missed! LOL My bridesmaids threw me an amazing stagette just over a week ago...it was so much fun! Â Amanda and Chong- you guys must be so excited! Can't wait to hear all about your special days. What are the exact dates again? FI and I are going to be in Mexico Oct 12-19...wondering if that's close? Â Did you have a microphone for your vows? FI and I are trying to figure out if we need one? And as well, do we need a microphone for speeches at dinner? Any advice would be great. Â Welcome! I think I noticed your wedding day in January 29...I'll see you there! (Our wedding day is January 24, but FI and I will be staying til Feb 2) Â They set you and your party up in a corner (sorta) in Spoon and there is a curtain which gets drawn around the area to provide some privacy. It's quite nice. Not sure about how to decorate, but I would think you should be allowed to do a small table decoration. As for the party after, there is not really a disco. There is the Martini Bar which has live music and a small dance floor, which opens up onto the balcony for more dancing! We saw a few weddings come up to party and it was great....just don't expect a traditional disco area. Â Glad to read she has sorted herself out! Â I am going to visit the Mayan in October this year, so I'll let you know. As for November, I have been quite and few times, and never had a problem. You might get the occasional sun shower, but rarely does it last for more than 30 minutes. I think in all my trips (6 so far), all between November and early February, I only remember one day which rained when I took my mom down with me many years ago.

Hello ladies, I am just catching up after being gone for over a week. First had my house full of guests, and my girls threw me an amazing stagette! Then flew home to Newfoundland to clean out my mother's house (she's been ill and in a nursing home for 3 years). Of course we end up smack in hurricane Igor (gratefully the house had no damage). But the island and many others were not so fortunate, I am hoping they get the damage fixed soon. Now I really have to get on to wedding planning! Â Tara-great website, and what an amazing price for your group! Nicole- love the fact that you asked! (I had wanted to, but he made me promise not to...since he wanted the honor) -

Sounds like a plan. I think we are going to start seriously looking into in meal options in October when we have a little more time. I'll let you know what we find out. Â I feel truly blessed...and a little shocked Can't wait to spend time with all of them. Â Welcome! There are so many great ideas on this site for STD and reviews of photographers. Â -
Not strange at all. I spend my teenage years growing up on the east coast of Canada, and right now my plan is to walk down the aisle to fiddle music!  Hmmmm....will have to check this out. I am heading down to Mexico with some friends mid October to celebrate my birthday, I 'll keep my eyes open and see what people are using.  We plan on buying most of the treats when we are down there. A cab can be a little pricey, and we plan on renting a car again for a day or two. We have used Excellence Car Rental, and had a very good experience. Their prices are fair, they pick and drop you off at your resort for free, and all insurance is included in the price. Now some of the cars might not be the newest, but less fear of someone stealing it or breaking in. They also offer a 'tourist card', you have to ask for it, but it is suppose to help you incase you get stopped by police, ie. let you off with a warning. Â

Never had a problem while we were visiting in April. Really any 4+resort is really safe, and most people who get ill...have had a little too much to drink However, I don't have any kids, so I am not sure what they offer. I know there was a kids menu, but for toddlers...not sure. Don't remember a microwave, but there was a fridge and coffee maker (so you could get hot water). But remember the resort is super helpful, and I am sure they can find a solution for you. Â Welcome! It is really hard making a decision, but hope every little bit helps. 1. Any private function comes at a cost, but it is reasonable. (The dinner included with the wedding package at Spoon is for up to 40, after that I believe it was a per head cost) 2. Don't think you have to go with a specific package, but have to pay an upgrade cost for the Sky wedding (which is a package in itself) 3. We are using a TA who is also a GI agent. We have not paid a cent for their services. And the WC are also free of charge (just be patient, they take a while to respond) 4. don't think they will let you make dinner reservations for all your guests in one spot. All the restaurants, with the exception of La Clique, are first come, first serve. No reservations taken in advance. As for welcome dinners/cocktail hours, there are many different price ranges. 5. From the info I have recieved, centerpieces range from $35 to $300, bouquets $45-300. 6. You can go to the Karima website and look under weddings, there is alot of information online which might help. Â Amanda, I would love to see your detail sheet please. We are up to 57 people and counting...I think we'll likely be about 63-65. I'll PM you my email address. Â Â

LOL! And to think we were planning on about 30-40 guests....I guess we won't know how many guests until late November. I am glad to hear they plan on serving all at the same time. We are planning a seated meal as well. Â -
Overwhelmed.....Help.
murmel replied to Carm23's topic in Riviera Maya and Cancun Accommodations & Site
Hi! First off welcome to the site and congratulations on your upcoming wedding. You sound alot like me...anyways needing to make sure are taken care of first. We have a number of kids attending as well. So it made picking a spot a little tricky. We had our choices narrowed down to: 1) Dreams Tulum 2) Barcelo Palace 3) Azul Sensatori  There are plenty more, but this is what our short list was. We ended up choicing the Azul, because of it's great food and size of resort (only 440 rooms). They also have a family suite (but I think it is a maximum of 5).  I would suggest coming up with a list of what you need and want. (food, kids club, swimming pools, disco, etc.) Then narrow it down to a top 5 resort list, and check general prices for the time of your wedding. This was a huge factor for us and our guests. From there narrow it down to 2 or 3, and request a group rate from a TA (if you'll have 10 guests or more). Good luck and feel free to ask questions, there are so many helpful people on this site. -
Hmmm...since you're a TA, maybe you can anwser this question. We are booked through Signature vacations, but the flights are with Sunwing. If the price goes down, would we possibly be able to get a one time price reduction? Â

Great wedding dress for a beach wedding! Love the style And there are so many great shoes that would work well. You could always get heels for later in the evening and the sandels for the beach part. Â That's so hard to say. With 80 people (wow) it might be tricky to get everyone served at once, but there is always that problem with a buffet line as well. I think both have pro's and con's. Maybe concentrate more on the food options and see what you and FI would prefer. Maybe you love the buffet menu, and not so much the set menu choices, or vice versa. Â -
Kelsey, don't think you're alone. It becomes very stressful sometimes, and I find the best way to deal with it is in small chunks. For instance, instead of telling yourself you'll get all the invites done tonight, set a goal of 10. Then tomorrow do the same. (I am using this tactic for getting my luggage tags and OOT bags done-since I am sewing them all myself.) If I tried to get them all done, it would not happen, but if I just do a few....I am also using this tactic for contacting the WC, I send off an email and know I can't expect a response for at least a few days. I am hoping by starting things now, with time to spare, that I won't be trying to do everything last minute to avoid that stress. Don't stress too much...remember your family and friends are more interested in being there for you, then for the food/entertainment. Take a deep breathe, vent to us, and enjoy the ride. We're all here for each other! Â
