Any 2011 Brides out there?
murmel replied to Nicyx's topic in Destination Wedding in Riviera Maya, Cancun & surrounding areas
Looks great Bonnie! Cute OOT bags. I am currently trying to play catch up! Was so busy the last few weeks, and this week I am doing a course which requires a lot of extra work...sigh. Anyway I have my dress at the seamstress now, next fitting start of December. Have my luggage tags made and ready to send out, just have to finish the details of the pre-travel brochure-hoping to send this all out by mid November. Then my next DIY project is making the OOT bags. I am sewing a beach bag for every couple...have a few started, now just to finish. -
There are quite a few Michael's around. I live in Brampton (but close enough). Depending on where you are exactly I know there is a Michael's at Dixie/QEW, Mavis/401, Hwy7/400 or Steeles/410. There are more, just don't know exact locations. For the paper idea, you still have to use the glass votive holder. But by wrapping the paper around the glass holder, you just create a higher 'wall'- this might stop the wind from getting in. The flame won't be able to reach the paper, assuming you are using regular votive height candles inside the glass holders. 50 would be alot of laterns. Maybe less laterns but larger ones? Ikea perhaps? I would maybe look for the small battery run tealights and go that route. Perhaps you can use frosted votive holders, or colored ones to disguise the tealight? If you go to the persons screen name, you will see a small blue down arrow. Hover over that and a drop down menu appears. From here, select PM (private message). Also if you go to view profile, certain members have some pictures they have posted and you can view them through that way. I have a few of the gazebos (but not decorated). Good luck!

Anyone going with Blue, Green and White colors?
murmel replied to lisadias's topic in Wedding Flowers, decoration, cake, etc.
We ordered a mix of turqoise, green and white. ( I would have to check the exact numbers of each color) 40 total. As long as they are come back in good condition I am sure I could sell them to you if you're interested. But since they are paper, I don't want to offer them to you until I know how many survive. LOL I really have to get onto the get together. I should post something by Thursday. There is a forum in the DIY section- called LED throwies. One of the girls also included a link to a website, I think called dealextreme??? You should double check, but we ordered the LED's and the batteries from there. (can't remember the price- FI did the order, but I know it was cheap) -
The Azul Beach property is about 4 hotels north of the Sensatori. The beach is narrow, but it's sandy and the water does not have many reefs/rocks. The best strip of beach is just south of the Beach resort and north of Sensatori (be aware there is a nudist resort in the middle, so should you have family or guests that might be offended I would warn them ahead of time). I know there is a bride staying at the Sensatori and doing a ceremony at the chapel, however I am not sure that she has children coming or not. That would be my only concern, since Maroma is adults only, so not sure the children would be allowed on property. There might be other chapels they could recommend. Or perhaps the children could have a babysitter for that part of the day? Both resorts offer receptions on the beach, or multiple other locations, you choose. We booked in April for a January wedding, and hopefully will have the little details ironed out shortly (November). We are doing a beach ceremony, and then moving to Plaza Zavas for the reception. It's an area by one of the pools, with beautiful flagstone and surrounding by palm trees and small garden. If you have any other questions, just ask!

I might be worried that it would blow out, there always seems to be some breeze coming from the ocean. But here are a few ideas to help: look at getting some decorative paper (about 6-8" tall). Wrap around the glass votive holder and use double sided tape to secure. This would add extra height, so that the wind may not affect it, and you can also use the colors for your wedding. You could also look for small latern style candle holders ( I know I have seen them at Michaels' craft store, they hold a tealight, not a votive) Or buy the battery operated tealights, they can't blow out! Good luck. It's a hard choice. They are both beautiful for their own reasons. We personally are doing the beach wedding.

Your wedding is not worth the stress! Tell your friend you would be thrilled if she can make it, but understand if she can't. But then be firm and tell her, you have others things to deal with, and not to bother you with her problems. She also needs to make a choice! And don't get cornered into paying for her trip...destination weddings are meant to be special, and make the wedding easy for the bride and groom. You have other wonderful family and friends coming, concentrate on them! Good luck!

Asianideas.com We ordered 40 assorted sizes (10"-18") and the total included FedEx shipping to Canada was just over $100 CDN. Laterns were just over $60, shipping $48! Sigh..... But Since you're in the States, shipping will be way cheaper. But for us it averaged to $2.75/latern, way cheaper than anywhere local. And they are quite nice. -

Very excited, we got our paper laterns in the mail on Friday! So now I just need to make the LED throwies. As well we have decided the centerpieces will be a large glass vase filled with limes (green) and then we'll have a turquoise table runner, and some white candles to add some light. -
We also have an uneven bridal party. 3 BM and 5 GM. Not worried at all. I think we'll likely have all the guys up front and then the girls will walk down the aisle one at a time. My sister is walking me down the aisle. That's the best part of a destination wedding- there are no rules, you do as you want it!

November 5 is my bridal shower! I was thinking dinner mid-week might be easier , but no set date yet. Got my dress a little while ago, now just getting it fitted, so I will post pictures once it looks right! Looks like you have quite the busy November. I'll try and look at dates and post a new thread this week sometime. -

There are a couple of big one going on that week! I know there is a huge Indian wedding on the 21 (100 guests), it's going to be rocking down there! As for hair flowers, I am sure fake or real will both work. Just if you go with real, let them choose the flower locally. (they'll know what is in season and will last in the heat) -
From what I understand the fee is $500 or 3 nights (minimum) stay. Hence, why I don't have to pay the fee, since my photographer is staying the week with us. You just have to get the photographer okay'd from Karisma, since there are some they don't allow on property (the only one I know is Del Sol, but there might be others). It has nothing to do with Where the photographer is from. And you might be shocked at the cost of the local photographers as well, we found it cheaper to bring one with us!

Wanted to make our guests something unique and special. So I handcrafted fabric luggage tags with our wedding colors! Can't wait to mail these out with our pre-travel brochures in the next few weeks. Should anyone want more details or instructions, just PM me. The completed tags. (Business cards from Staples) So to make these: You need to cut two 3 1/2" x 5" pieces of fabric. Two pieces of heavy weight iron on interfacing (cut to fit), vinyl for the window (cut to fit) and one 2' x 12" piece of fabric for the strap. Step one: Take the fabric for the strap (2" x12"), fold in half and iron. Open up and fold each side to the middle and press. (this just helps make it easier to keep the shape while sewing it). Then edge stitch down each side to create your strap. Step two: Place fabric pieces, right sides together. Fold strap in half and place inside the fabric with cut edges sticking out 1/2". Pin together. Then using a 1/4" seam, stitch around 3 of the 4 edges (leave the side opposite where strap is sewn in open). Step three: Unpin fabric, and turn right way out. Cut 2 pieces of the interfacing to fit inside. Slide interfacing in, allow about 1/4"-1/2" of fabric at the end. Then turn fabric ends inside and pin (see photo below). Now iron the luggage tag to harden the interfacing. Step four: Cut vinyl for business card window. Then Sew around edges, creating a pocket for the business card. And you're done!

Thanks hon! But have not been to the gym in quite a while and it's showing LOL. Was out east cleaning out my mother's house and then dealing with the closing of my own place here. Finally getting back into the swing of things, but this house is now a disaster zone and needs some TLC. But I did get my dress dropped off today. They say they need about 3 weeks to do the first alterations and then I'll need to come back to get fitted and then hopefully it will be done a few weeks after. Trying to get another TO get together organized, what's your schedule looking like? You should do one! I'm super nervous and pumped all at the same time -

I am doing it through Renaissance Studios. They have a studio in Milton (so nice and close for me...and you!) I am paying $395 +tax, but it includes an hour hair/makeup, 2 hour photo shoot, 30-40 pictures. Just haven't decided if I want to buy the photo disc or the album (both extra). but you can order prints directly off the website. www.RenaissanceStudios.ca Almost all the other spots I found were about the same price or more, but didn't include hair/makeup. I'm am scheduled for November 12, two weeks away, and still have to go find sexy undies and try and get in shape LOL! I'll let you know how it goes. -

I haven't started packing, but I have little piles of wedding stuff all over the house right now! I should really at least put it all in the same place LOL. Still trying to figure out final details, ie. reception food, music, etc. At least we finally got out and ordered our wedding bands yesterday. Mine is suppose to be done in about 2 weeks, FI will be done just before Christmas. We got our paper laterns in the mail yesterday, now I have to order the stuff to make the LED throwies. In the next few weeks I am also sending out a pre-departure brochure to our guests and luggage tags. (we have 63 people coming now, so that DIY project got much larger than planned) Still working on OOT bags. Me too! Plus some of our guests will be at the house before they fly down for our wedding. I have to get miy dress dropped off at my seamstress as well. I fear the alteration cost is going to be quite high.... We are doing turquoise, green and white. Still looking for shoes. As for hair flowers, I would suggest Etsy. I am sure you'll find something you love and the prices are really great. -
Although we could not use the 'bride/groom stay free' promo, we talked to our TA, who worked it out that we would recieve the 20% off private events! So talk to your TA and see what they can offer instead! Recieved my laterns in the mail yesterday! (just a little disappointed that the 2 large turquoise laterns are a slightly diffferent tone than all the rest, but hoping in the night, it really won't be noticable) Now just have to order the LED's and batteries to make those LED throwies (DIY forum).

I also feel like I have been MIA, but we are slowly getting stuff finished. We have managed to order our wedding bands, can't wait to see them when they are done! We ordered laterns for the reception and they arrived yesterday. I am hoping to get to my seamstress this week to get my dress fitted and try and find shoes to wear. And I also need to go lingerie shopping, my boudoir shoot is in 2 weeks and I have nothing yet. Have not even thought about a first dance yet...hmmmm.... -
We are bringing a photographer with us. And I believe the plan is to cover for about 10 hours, and a TTD session later in the week. The gazebo requires 2 sheets. EACH measuring 12m x 1 1/2m. I thought about bringing my own, but after pricing it at the fabric store, I might have saved $10, but then I still had to transport it. So we are planning on renting now.

It's a great idea. Just make sure to find out how long the excursion will be. Depending on where your resort is the drive alone might be upwards of 2 hours each way. If you are staying to the south end of the Mayan Riviera try Coba. Good luck! -
That's always such a tricky detail. I would suggest looking for seamless underwear, not sure where you live, but in Canada La Senza sells them. That should avoid the underwear lines. As for the bra top, I have seen something that almost looks like a corset (but it's a bra). Strapless, but is cut super low on the back, and designed for dresses like these. If you need support, I would look for one of these. Unfortunately I don't know what they are called. Also maybe: http://www.victoriassecret.com/ss/Satellite?ProductID=1265327862782&c=Page&cid=1284548321446&pagename=vsdWrapper http://www.victoriassecret.com/ss/Satellite?ProductID=1265321443122&c=Page&cid=1284548322121&pagename=vsdWrapper Good luck.
