  1. We looked into the Azul Fives for our wedding, but when we checked it was not officially open as a hotel. People who own the timeshare rooms are free to use it, but I still don't know that it's open as a hotel, even though they keep advertising it. I would maybe check Trip Advisor to see if there are reviews. Other than that I would use caution.
  2. I was a bridesmaid for a girlfriend's wedding last year on a Princess cruise. We never did a trial run, and the salon did a fabulous job on our hair. I would not hesitate to go that way, and then you don't have to worry about finding someone at the port. Here's a photo of my hair, sorry it's not a great shot. It was really windy, so I asked for a low bun slightly off to the side. I think it came out really well, and it held! Here's the bride's hair. Keep in mind her hair is barely chin length, and they made it look like it was a mile long the way the hair stylist wrapped each piece. Hope that helps! Good luck.
  3. Love your dress! I'm not very girly either, and ended up with a very lacy number LOL. I had to give up my e-ring for the past few weeks, while they custom made the wedding band. It felt so odd, I pulled out my jewelery case, and found one of my mom's old rings that fit! The jeweler was very nice and even polished up the ring so it looks new again
  4. It depends so much on the airlines. We have already bought the upgraded seats, which allows us to take double the baggage. However since it's Sunwing, it is very limited anyway. Normal is 44 lbs (25 kg)/person, with our upgrade we can take up to 4 bags each-total weight 35 kg. It cost up about $100 each. I think you can pre-purchase extra baggage weight, but not sure how to. If you are flying with Air Canada/ Westjet, you are allowed 2 bags total 100 lbs. Not sure of extra baggage cost.
  5. First of all, thank you to all the other brides who have passed on their wonderful ideas! I have borrowed a number of ideas, words and layouts, and could not have done it without all the help I found on BDW. We sent out the brochure, the dinner choice card and luggage tags about 2 months before the wedding. For those of you who wish to use Word, here is a great link for instructions on how to make a tri-fold: http://www.computorcompanion.com/LPMArticle.asp?ID=143 pretravel1.doc 166k .doc file dinnercard1.doc 29k .doc file I hope that these two samples/ templates will be able to help someone else! Any other questions, please PM me! pretravel1.doc dinnercard1.doc
  6. We just sent out our pre-travel brochure and included a little card with the dinner choices. We just asked guests to emai their response, but if they don't respond they will automatically get choice 1. I don't see a problem with emailing guests, you are under a time crunch, and I am sure your guests would rather have a dinner choice than not. Good luck.
  7. Welcome back Meredith! Thank for the detailed review, and hints. Love the photos you posted on the Azul forum, and can't wait to see more.
  8. Great job! I am currently working on my pre-travel brochures and using Word as well. Let us know how it goes with the printing!
  9. I agree with you Tisha....let's hope there is not another "accident". It's just so sad that so many people have been affected, and my heart goes out to those families who lost loved ones.
  10. Okay, looks like Tuesday will work for most people....does 6:30pm work? Earlier/later? If no one has a preference let's make it for: Tuesday November 23 at 6:30pm at Moxie's in Yorkdale Mall. I will reserve a table once I get an idea of how many are coming! Cheers
  11. I can't do Wednesday....sorry. I could do Monday if it's better, but it's hard for me to find an evening that I am not working. Is everyone okay with Milestones or Moxie's , on Tuesday November 23 at Yorkdale? And Lisa, feel free to bring along other brides
  12. Okay, let's plan for a pub in the Kipling subway area. Hopefully that works for most people. I will find a good spot and post it tomorrow.
  13. I am sorry it's causing you so much stress. But I am happy you have talked with her and made it clear that you are not into financing her trip. Hopefully the rest of your planning will be simpler. Sending you positive thoughts! You deserve to be happy, and not trying to worry about others.
  14. When we starting looking for prices a year in advance it was very expensive as well. We were quoted $2100 out of Toronto (including airfare, transfer, and hotel) back in January. We waited til April and the price was $1315 (same deal as before). We are getting married January 24, 2011. So it's likely you just have to wait a little while, and keep asking!
  15. Where is everyone coming from? Since I know 2 of us come from Brampton, so that makes Yorkdale about an hour away....maybe the airport, or the west side of Toronto would be an option. Renee would something close to the subway system work for you?
  16. First of all welcome Gemma! And this is a great spot to ask questions. Depending on your number of guests you can have the reception in a number of places. If it's a small group, they set up tables close to the yoga palapa and then the yoga palapa becomes your 'dance floor'. Larger groups you can use the beach BBQ area, Very small groups they set up an inimate area under your own small tent. All the locations on the resort is beautiful, you just have figure out what suits you best. We are bringing our own photographer, so I can't help there. But usually they suggest about 3-5 hours. This allows for an hour before the wedding for getting ready shots, an hour for the ceremony, 1-2 hours for wedding shots, and if you want anytime at the reception this adds the extra hour. Good luck. I believe the hotel offers a grooms room, if available depending on the package you purchased. Most girls that have had their hair/makeup done at the salon have been very happy with the results. Lomas is owned by Karisma. So that why they are usually the go to company for those types of arrangements. It is also Lomas that supplies all the wedding gear (flowers, table clothes, decoration , etc.)
  17. Beautiful pictures! It is hard to choose, but I really like the one in the street. I think I get drawn in by the vivid colors! As for table runners, we are just renting them. $7/runner, they have multiple colors available, but you don't see them until you're there.
  18. Men can wear jeans! As long as people are not wearing swimsuits or shorts, you should be fine. But I have to admit we did see some men with dressy shorts on and they ate at Spoon and the Mexican restaurants no problems. You might not get into Le Chique with shorts though. Your day is almost here! So thrilled for you. Let us know how it goes. Have a safe flight and a beautiful wedding Curious how you have managed to get the Donkey Bar? Are you confirmed for it, or just thinking of doing it? We are trying to get it and they are informing us the donkey is no longer allowed at the Sensatori....sigh. Would love to know...since we really wanted to do this for our guests. Right now we are thinking we'll just do a regular cocktail hour. We sent out STD and formal invitations. We wanted something very basic and simple and found great ones online at Vistaprint. Electrical sockets and voltage are the same as Canada/USA. No adapters required! Depending on where you hold your reception there are multiple plugs all over the resort. (although they have to run extention cords for the beach)
  19. Hello to all the Toronto brides! I was thinking of trying to get everyone together for November 23 (Tuesday). I am more than willing to host the brides at my place, only downfall for some, I live up in Brampton. Or we can plan to meet at a restaurant somewhere if that is more convenient (maybe close to the airport?). Please let me know if you're interested and if the date works. Hope to see and meet you all soon!
