Any 2011 Brides out there?
murmel replied to Nicyx's topic in Destination Wedding in Riviera Maya, Cancun & surrounding areas
Nan- Best wishes for a beautiful wedding! Enjoy every moment -
Are you flying down with them at the same time? If you are you could give them their bags at the airport (or perhaps some of your bridal party is on the same flight and could give them out to them?) I like the idea of sending the welcome phamplet/schedule to their home, so that they know what's going on. And then perhaps the day of the wedding when they come to the resort, you could have one of your bridal party or another friend give them the OOT bag. Good luck! I had no real problems with music and my set-up fee was only $80 but I didn't have that much to set-up. I will post full review and what not this week! Congratulations Maggie! So happy to hear it all went well Now relax a little and enjoy being married.

Love the watch idea! We got watches for all our Groomsmen and it went over really well. Another possible idea is one of those underwater cameras (Olympus and Fuji both have cameras that are about $150, and it might be fun for him to have a new camera down south....if he doesn't have one already) Good luck with your planning

I have to work the evening shift on June 16. So I would likely miss that date. Unfortunately, it's always really hard to find a date that will work for everyone! I will keep watching to see what the final date will be.

Welcome back Mrs! So happy for you. Get some rest, enjoy your AHR and then post the pictures LOL. -
Thanks Ladies! I am just happy to be able to pass on the info. It was previous brides that got me through my wedding and this site was the best thing I ever stumbled onto! ...but I should look into the paying gig! LOL Beautiful invites! Love the shimmer. First of all, congratulations on your beautiful wedding! I had to laugh a little though, I also wanted purple flowers, and got these exact pink one too! Haa haa....it seems their definition of purple is a little different than ours! I agree with Chapa! It really seems to depend who your WC is. But they seem to quote $5 /person, and then make up random figures too. I had menu cards, centerpieces, table numbers, name cards, laterns, some kids stuff and it cost us $120 US (63 guests), yet I know Tisha who just got married got charged a lot more

June 2, the Thursday would be perfect for me! I would be coming from Burlington area, if anyone needs a ride from that area.

Nan, Don't get to stressed out! It's really not worth it. If you and your FI enjoyed the food- it's got to be good! As long as it's not too spicy, I am sure most of your guests will be happy to see something new and unique. And it's truly a choice to showcase your beautiful destination location. Good luck! -
Congrats Jamie! Glad to hear all went well. Enjoy your honeymoon! *The Italian restaurant was really good at Casitas....and the cheese fondue was super fun (and super filling)! Much obliged to anyone who has insight! Marianne I think they are fairly strict with the ages for joining the actual kids club group (ie. supervised activities). However kids of any age are allowed to use the kids club facilities as long as a parent is with them. We had a 9 month old, who played with the toys, water playground, etc. Hope that helps. That's pretty much how our ceremony ran. So I think you should be good (we didn't do the sand ceremony, and we inserted our own vows) Our vows were directly before the ring exchange.

Hi Nan, First of all, you know most of guests, if they are adventerous and willing to try new things I would stick with the Mexican menu! (I would love to have done that!) But we got married at a resort where you had to choose from a selected menu. We offered our guests a choice of pork tenderloin or mahi-mahi. -
We had a number of guests only stay for a few days. I had my TA get us a room rate (it was discounted from what you would see on Azul's website), then had my guests buy a seperate flight (they used multiple carriers, we had guests use American from California, Northwest from Florida, Westjet, AirCanada, etc.). We then arranged for private transfers through Lomas tours (Valerie was super helpful). I think it was $120US round trip for a 6 passenger van. But everyone stayed at the Sensatori with us! Try the Sunwing website and look for room rate only to give yourself a starting point. www.sunwing.ca I just checked Oct 22-25, it would be $363 per person (tax included). (it's listed as Sensatori Azul by Karisma) Good luck! Best wishes for a beautiful wedding Maggie! Enjoy every moment

Congratulations! I know there is an "expectant mom" section on BDW! I made our guests OOT bags, and they were tote bag size (large enough to fit a beach towel). We saw all of our guests using the bag. As for the contents....hmm.. I think people liked the little snack stuff (we bought that locally in Mexico), our first aid kits and the info booklet (ie. when things were happening, info about tours, etc.). Other than that I would not worry to much about filling up the bag. If you have a photographer from a different company, then you have to pay another vendor fee for the videographer. Maybe the photographer has someone from the same company who does videography?

That is frustrating, especially since your family will all likely have to make the decision as to which wedding they will want to attend. Destination weddings are expensive, and although I don't know when your cousin is planning for 2012, I would assume the early part January-April?. If it is for late next year, then I wouldn't worry to much, maybe all your family will be ready for another party! My first suggestion would be: be very slow sending the addresses over. She can do her own work and gather addresses, and also it will buy your invited guests a little more time to RSVP and committ to your wedding first, before seeing her invite. I don't mean to sound rude, but especially if this is her second wedding, I would thing you have the right to a bit of priority! At the end of the day, just remember that no matter how many people join you, you will have an amazing time and wonderful memories to keep for a lifetime! Don't sweat the small stuff to much Hugs and good luck!

I will dig out my papers and see if I can find her name. We did not see a script at all... My husband met her about an hour before the ceremony to find out what was happening. I didn't want my husband to see me til I walked down the aisle, so a girlfriend of mine went to the meeting and passed on the info to me. Basically the minister did a little intro, then went straight into 'repeat after me', then we inserted our own vows, ring exchange, signing the certificate, announcing we were husband and wife! Not a restaurant. It's the main lobby. You can do pictures there, but no receptions. Quote: Originally Posted by Mwise17 Hey Murmel, Thanks so much, your the best! I know right? If any of them stick to their guns, I'll def. have them email you!!! As for the marrying in T.O., how much does it cost with papers etc. to do it at city hall vs. having them come to you? $300 sounds like a deal to me! The more I think about it, if I can keep my big mouth shut, no one will know the difference, and we will do it here, and it seems like everything else will be a bit easier in regards to the papers/ceremony stuff.....and Chris hates needles, he would probably want to do it this way too. (I guess I should check with him eh?) lol This was the service we had planned on using. http://www.kcwgta.com/elopement.htm There is another judge as well, I will dig through my paper work and see if I still have the contact info. I wish I could tell you the true cost in Toronto, but we ended up in Newfoundland to do our legal ceremony (that's where the nursing home my Mom resides in). It cost us $50 for paperwork, $250 for the judge, and then $40 for the province to send me the actual legal certificate after. My guess it should be about the same here. And trust me, unless you tell someone, no one will know! And a bonus about having to not deal with the needles! (I hate them too!)

I don't know where else they might be looking, but a lot of people think if they wait last minute they can get it cheaper...I don't know how else to respond but to tell them how often the hotel sells out! I took the risk of putting down the deposit for my peace of mind, I will be OK if we lose a couple hundred. The legal ceremony is sounding more and more like a pain in the butt....and with more thought, the idea of getting married here sounds like it won't take away from the day...that was what I was worried about. I assumed whomever was officiating our wedding would have an accent, but its sounding like the judges that do the legal are harder to understand then the ministers? hmmmmmmmm...... That price seems great to me! We were around the same price for late January. I would really try telling your guests that this hotel really does sell out fast! And the likely hood of them getting a better price is slim to none! (show them the room rates off the Azul website, then they'll really think it's a steal!) If you want, tell your friends to contact me, I 'll confirm for them that they should not wait. We had to to actually confirm with the hotel when we got there that none of our guests would be sent to other hotels because they were over booked! If you want to do a legal ceremony in the Toronto area, there are actually judges that will come out to your house and do it for you. (i think it was about $300, included the paperwork). I am sure I can dig up the name if you want it. That way no one has to know. And other than my MOH, my sister, the best man and husband's parents NO ONE knows we got legally married at home. The ceremony sounded so good in Mexico, that no one was the wiser. The lady/minister that did our ceremony was lovely. And yes, she had an accent, but it was no problem to understand her. The only tip off is that you don't do the fingerprinting (which you have to do for the legal ceremony), and just the couple and minister sign the documents, no witnesses. It seemed to me, that they offer this bonfire party, but rarely ever do it. So when they actually have to do it, it's sort of thrown together.

I was told you had to have your birth certificates translated into Spanish, then your legal marriage certificate would be in Spanish, which you would then have to translate back into english. We just thought it would be easier to do it all in Canada. Plus it worked out quite well for us. My mother has been ill for many years and is bed-ridden. So she got to attend my "wedding". We had a judge come to the nursing home and he married us in front of my mom. So even though she couldn't attend my Mexico wedding, so was there for my legal one! Not to be nosy, but what rate did you get? And is it for the room only, or a package deal (ie. flight/transfer and hotel)? We had some people tell us they would wait, do it on their own, and then they realized our rate was far better. Also they should know that there is only ONE company that can sell access to the Sensatori property from Canada (other than booking through the hotel directly which would be really expensive). Sunwing still has exclusive rights to that hotel. Let your guests know you have arranged a group rate and it's a confirmed room....if they wait to long they might miss out. Good luck! I know how frustrating it can be. We lost some of our deposit because guests flew in from other cities than we had planned for....but in the end all of our guests got a rate they were really happy with.
