  1. Great job! Looks like a beautiful wedding with a lot of personal touches.
  2. We just used the sound system rental, and used our Ipod playlists. There is a staff member who will control the system. (ie. they play the correct playlist for dinner, dancing, etc. They faded the music when guests came up to speak, and then turned the music back up) We were very pleased how it worked out, and I would not hesitate to suggest it as a great way to have dinner music, mic for speeches and dancing music. If you want guests to be able to do requests, you might be able to arrange for a friend to help control the Ipod. But if you want someone mixing music with lights, you might want invest in the DJ. Good luck!
  3. So beautiful! Love the expression on your husbands face the first time he sees you in the dress. You can truly see the love in his face!
  4. I have a fantastic seamstress who is really reasonable. She essentially had to take apart and redo my entire dress and I think it was $250. They are located in Brampton, which might be a little distance for you, but they truly are great!! http://www.qobollabridal.com/contact/ And just looking at their website, it looks like they have a new location which is Dundas and Kipling! Good luck!
  5. Hello ladies! First of all, congrats to Kerry and mbowling! You both must be MRS now! Hope you enjoyed every moment and can't wait to see some photos! Our honeymoon (belated) was fantastic! We travelled all over southeast Asia and it was an amazing adventure. I am in love with Cambodia and really want to go back...like right now.LOL Justiner- the photos are beautiful! Can't wait to see a photo of your dress. As for music, if you're not to picky, I would just suggest renting their Amp system for your dinner. This provides speakers, Ipod player and microphone. As well, the resort has someone who operates your Ipod all night long. So what we did is make music lists, example dinner 1, dinner 2, dancing 1, dancing 2, first dance. Then the guy operating the system just hit play on the Ipod. Whenever our MC or guests went up to give speeches he simply faded the music, and then when the speech was done he turned the music back up. When dinner was done, he simply hit the dance lists and party time! (if I remember correctly it was $150??-check my planning thread... it's there for sure) If you click on my name and go to photos there are some photos of some of the receptions sites. There are lots to choose from, beach, by the pool, indoor....just depends on your group size and what you want. If you have any other questions just ask. I have now been to Sensatori 4 times! I love that spot...so I can certainally offer details and help! Cheers!
  6. I wanted turquoise shoes for my wedding, and searched high and low in Canada (Toronto area). The most success I had was actually going to Indian clothing boutiques (they have many bright colored shoes to match the saris. Problem was they didn't have my size). Anyway I ended up buying a pair on ebay last minute and thank goodness they fit. Good luck on the hunt!
  7. I have to agree, spend the money on the professionals! You want great wedding photos! They will last you a lifetime...seriously don't skimp here!!! Plus as awkard as it will be to tell your cousin you don't need her now, imagine how horrible it could be if the photos don't turn out well! (she has talent, but you might not want to be the guinea pig) Also don't spend to much on OOT bags. It's really the thought that counts not the money. So a small chocolate bar, a welcome note, etc. will be just as well recieved as an over the top bag! Your guests are joining you to be with you, not because they want a beer coozie or beach bag! Maybe if your Dad is willing to help a little with cost too....perhaps ask your cousin if she would like to shoot a trash the trash, or some other small event during the week. Offer her $200 (?) and say you want to help build her portfolio, but you want her to enjoy the actually wedding! (hence why you hire other photographers- you want her there as a guest, not a worker. This may also help ease having to turn her down) Good luck! I know making these hard decisions can be stressful, but making the decision now will put your mind as ease for the future.
  8. So sorry to hear about your bridesmaid. It so true, that sometimes people let you down when you least expect it. Hopefully you won't dwell too much on it, and remember that the day is really about you and your to be husband! Everything will work out it the end Hugs. What you could do is always ask someone who is joining to be your official witness, that way you still have someone in your corner, but won't make them feel like second choice. Good luck.
  9. Wow! Wow! Wow! Melissa, you did an amazing job! So many projects and they all looked fantastic. It's so much fun to see it all come together and create a beautiful wedding!
  10. Not sure what kind of lanterns you're talking about, but there is usually no one on the beach at night, other than a security guard doing his rounds. So I am sure you could do sparklers with your kids or something else small without much problem. As long as it's something fairly small, I don't know that I would even ask the hotel...just play dumb! LOL You will have a blast at the Mojoito bar, and don't worry there will be lots of people wanting to dance with the new bride. Have fun!
  11. Hi Rachel, Spoon will work out well for you. They have a small area (actually up a step) that they surround with a curtain to create your own personal space. Also they provide you with waiters just for you and your guests. I also think that it is a full sit down menu (not a buffet, like Spoon usually is), but you may want to check with the WC.... If you want the wedding cake there, just tell the WC and they will make it happen. The flowers can easily be taken from your ceremony site and placed in the reception area (I did this to help decorate the tables) You just have to tell the WC exactly what you want! Table runners (in many colors available) I think were $7/runner. They also have colored table clothes which I think were $15-20 each, but it sounds like you'll likely just be on one large table, so that might be an option. After dinner, the Mojoito lounge upstairs offers live music every night. And usually the bands love requests, so maybe even if you have a favorite song (that's fairly commen) you might even be able to have them play it live as your first dance. If not, just dance the night away there! There are lots of couches, and lots of chairs around, so you and your guests could easily end up there to continue the party. If you want something a little quieter, at the bottom of the stairs down from the lobby there is an outside gazebo with swinging beds and tables/chairs were you could also sit down there with your guests. Just ask one of the waiters from the Mojoito bar to come down and take drink orders! There is also a bar on the back side of the Mexican restaurant with a beautiful view of the ocean, if you just want to sit around and enjoy! Hope that helps, any other questions feel free to ask.
  12. Melissa- Welcome home MRS! Sorry to hear it rained on you But it still looks like everything was beautiful and everyone had fun! You looked simply stunning! Can't wait to see more photos.
  13. Have fun on your site visit! I know Azul does allow outside vendors, but they have to be approved and there is a fee to bring them in (I think the rate is $500 now per vendor)
  14. Sounds like fun! But I will be away....finally going on our belated honeymoon to Asia (Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, and Cambodia)! Can't wait I will try and join at the next one. Cheers, Miriam
  15. Have fun! We did one about 8 months before we got married. We met with the onsite WC, who showed us the grounds, locations for ceremony and receptions and then showed up some sample photos. We also were greeted at every restaurant with a small food sample and drink. We didn't try and were not offered samples of the dinner menu, but the food at the resort is amazing and still is the best food I have had at a resort down south (and my husband and I travel at least 2 times a year to the Caribbean) Ask about how you want your day to go....ie. if you plan on using the spa to have your hair/makeup done, visit it and ask for prices. Want to see what rooms you could stay in...ask to view some of the different ones (ie. swim up room, balcony ocean view). They are super professional and truly to try to make it the day of your dreams. So any little question is not to silly, and if there are specific things you want to know ask (how do they block off the beach area for your ceremony, how long should the reception be, etc.)
  16. I would have to agree with the girls. Both are beautiful and great fabrics for a beach wedding, but I would go with #1- easier to wear a bra and dance in
  17. We used different sizes....I think 8", 10", 12", 15" and 18". The LED throwies consisted of 3 LEDs, one battery, electric tape, and an alligator clip to keep it all tight.
  18. Hi, We used 20 lanterns around the gazebo. (there was also an extra 4 used at our wedding gazebo) You can find more details on my planning journal: http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/t/69198/murmels-planning-journal-pic-and-template-heavy The Led's and batteries we ordered from dealextreme.com Good Luck!
