I wouldn't even suggest you taking out a loan if you wanted to have the fancy AHR...but you don't, so definitely don't do it. This is why people grow to hate their in laws lol...hang in there and do what you want. They already got married. Your turn. I totally agree with Starchild. I would not take out a loan to pay for an AHR that THEY want!! IMO, I think it is very wrong of them to ask this of you. I would talk it over with FI and if he wants to have the AHR, maybe a scaled down version, that you can afford, would be a good compromise. don't loose focus that this is YOUR day. Do what works for you and FI. Good luck!!
  2. Happy Wedding Day!! Can't wait to see your pictures when you get back.

Hopefully once we get a location in Maui picked everything else will fall into place Congratulations and welcome to the forum! You will find a ton of information here. Happy planning!!

How should we go about getting donation prizes and what's the best places too? Do we call them ahead of time or just go and see them? HELP! Congratulations and welcome! I'm not sure what a "Social" is but guessing that it may be along the lines of an engagement party I am sure you will find lots of helpful advice on this forum. Happy planning.
  5. Help... I'm starting to second guess my decision to have my wedding at Beaches Turks & Caicos - mainly because of the costs. When we started planning, my "requirements" were: White sand beach, turquoise blue water, tropical, and a place that would allow children (being this is my second marriage and I have an 11 year old duaghter). Before I found this forum, I put a deposit down with DW.com, I gave a $50 deposit, was assigned a TA and the only suggestion she had was Beaches Turks & Caicos or Jamica. (TA Jennifer, I wish I would have found you before I put down my deposits!!) After doing some research on my own, and after finding this site and reading reviews on this forum, I decided Beaches Turks & Caicos it was! We were told by the TA (and by a Beaches customer service rep) that we needed to book a Concierge level room for at least 6 nights to get the BB wedding free and to also waive the $700 Gov't fees as well. So we booked the Govener's 1 Bedroom Honeymoon Suite (one night free with this catagory) for $6954. My parents are booked in the lowest catagory room for $4,800 for the week. When people hear this, they tell me I could take a two week cruise to Europe for less than that! I know April is Spring Break and the prices are slightly higher, but this is when my daughter has a track out break from school. I seriously considered taking her out of school and moving the reservation to May when the prices are lower, but I was told by the Beaches Cust Service Rep, that the $700 Gov't fees are NOT covered for weddings held in May, Sept or Oct. no matter what catagory you book. So again, that drives the price right back up again. Besides venting, I just want to know that I am not going to be disappointed with Beaches T&C after spending this amount of money. I know a few of you have shared your amazing wedding stories and you seemed to be very happy with your choice. Would you do it all over again, and spend the extra money to have it here?
  6. There are two websites that I have seen that have very inexpensive dresses and lots of styles to choose from - LittleCoral.com and Fashioninthebox.com I haven't ordered anything from either, but with the style choices and prices, I just may take a chance. Good Luck!
  7. I am tossing this one around myself. This is my second wedding. At my first, which was a traditional wedding, I had both my parents walk me down. (They were divorced at the time). This time around, nothing is traditional. I have an 11 year old daughter and thought about walking down with her, but I adore my step-dad also (my father died several years ago). I don't know, maybe I will walk alone. It is going to be a very small and intimate ceremony, so I guess it really dosen't matter.

  9. WOW! All that hard work paid off. Your STD's look fantastic!!! Great job. Where did you get the template for the boarding pass? I was trying to make a passport STD. I think it's a little more complicated than I thought. Maybe I'll do the boarding pass instead. Do you have a template?
  10. I LOVE Disney World!! That is great. Congratulations and happy planning!
  11. LOVE your pictures!! You looked beautiful. I give you a lot of credit for doing the underwater shots!!!
  12. Everything looks great. LOVE your wedding dress!! Have a great time!
  13. Congratulations and welcome to the forum! Happy planning!
  14. Yeah! So exciting! Let us know what cool presents you get!

I'm honestly thinking of a nice way to word that on our invites LOL I am in the same boat here. This is my second marriage and honestly, what matters most to us is that my 11 year old daughter is there! My parents, of course, wouldn't miss it for the world so they are coming - and they are also going to have my daughter stay in their room with them. My FSIL would love to come, but like everyone said, it's all about the $$$. I would love to send some invitations to those that are close to us but want to word it the very same way "don't feel obligated!" It is a bummer because I know that a few people that we would love to be there just won't be. But we knew this when we decided on a DW. We are planning on having something when we get back home also. Just don't know what type of celebration to have... a dinner in a resturant, a BBQ, etc... I don't want it to seem like we are having a party after we get back just for gifts because that's not it at all. I just want it to be an extension of our celebration for those who couldn't join us. I def need help wording an invitation for that.
  16. Congratulations and welcome! You will find lots of helpful advice and get some great ideas here. Have fun planning!
  17. Thanks Jeri-Lee. I actually spoke with Ileana this morning and she said she strongly recommended keeping the ceremony for 4:00 PM. She said the time would be perfect with the sunset and all. I have total confidence in her advice! I am so excited!
  18. I don't remember which post I read it on, but it said late summer the prices nornally come down. I think I will wait until at least then to book. I don't think I will get it too cheap, not from NC.
  19. Thanks Krys - I will leave the time as planned - I have total confidence in Ileana and know we will be more than happy with our pictures. Now, I just need to find a dress!!
  20. We also booked Ileana with Tropical Images for off site pictures. Our ceremony is scheduled for 4:00 PM and Ileana is going to meet us at 5:00 PM. I would love some sunset pictures, but I wonder if starting at 5:00 PM will give us enough time before it gets too dark We were planning on having a dinner around 8ish. What are your thoughts?
  21. I am getting married April 14th at Beaches Turks & Caicos. Just started looking for a dress but can't seem to find what I want in actual stores. I see a lot of dresses that I love on line, but I am nervous to order without trying on. Has anyone ever ordered from Littlecoral.com They seem to have awesome prices and a large selection of beautiful dresses. I don't know, maybe I will buy one that I really like for a TTD session - and if it is great, I will just use it for the ceremony too.
  22. I like the first one. But it also depends on how it looks on you and where you are getting married. If you are ordering on line and are not able to try on first, since seems very reasonable, I would get both then return the one you don't want. Just make sure to check their return policy first. Good luck!
  23. Thanks for the update! I just looked for April - the price came down from $758 to now $661. Maybe if I hold out a little longer it will drop a little more? Decisions, decisions...
