What I would and wouldn't do again...

Love this thread! Thanks for all of your bridal wisdom ladies! -

Yeah, with prices like those for the Premium Suite, it almost seems wiser to just pay for a package and go with their base rooms being that everyone says all of the rooms are beautiful regardless. In our case, we would pay $4K+ for the Premium room just to get the free package as opposed to paying about $2,400 for a room and just adding on the $950 for the Pearl package. Looks like we will save close to $1K to put towards another budget line item just by going with a regular Jacuzzi Suite. Not to mention we are going to take advantage of the free room upgrade for booking within 10 days of participating in the webinar. By typing this all out, it sounds like I've come to a decision for us.

So here are the rates that our TA provided for our wedding week for the two of us. We will probably forego the Free Wedding Package and remain with the Pearl because as you can see, the Premium Suite doesn't seem worth it. If any of you past brides have any thoughts on this, I'd love to hear them. 7 nights in Premium Jacuzzi Suite - $2002.16 per person 7 nights in Luxury Jacuzzi Ocean view - $1310.80 per person 7 nights in Luxury Jacuzzi Jr. Suite - $1,205.24 7 nights in Jacuzzi Jr. Suite - $1126.36

Hi Ladies! I've been MIA because we went camping for the past 4 days and once again, I am trying to play catch up in my "real" life as well as around here. :-) MMC, give me a couple of days and I will see what I can locate or pull together. I quickly was able to locate this site with tons of photos of your color scheme. Now keep in mind that it is more of a quirky. vintage, mod wedding....but I think it will give you some inspirations to start: http://www.thesweetestoccasion.com/2010/06/60s-mod-vintage-inspired-wedding-ideas/ I am actually digging these boards up by just using google. There is a TON of stuff out there because I am all about not reinventing the wheel if at all possible. ;-) I'll let you know what I find next though, I just need to catch up on work first and I'd be happy to look for you. Quote: Originally Posted by dstinationdrmr Quote: Thanks for the offer but a lot of the work I need to do is with finalization of plans. Plus, I'm beginning to second guess brining my own flowers after I saw AmyB's and she said they cost $50 BUT I still haven't been able to get an idea of what available to me for that price. It's really just things that I want to get out of the way and not wait until the last minute to decide upon. I really appreciate your concern though, you're so sweet! Oh and for the webinar, I was just under the impression the room upgrade would be available to all who participated. I really just wanted the room upgrade You are the inspiration board guru now huh? Ditto on not using theknot.com anymore. That was always my go-to reference but I have no use for it anymore. The only thing I can do on there that I like is the budget calculator, but since we've pretty much thrown that out the window I doesn't really make sense anymore. You are funny. I just wanted to let you know that I ordered my new BB today so that we can resume our late night BBM chats! I miss chatting with you and was beginning to have wedding chat withdrawl while I was up in the mountains! LOL And that is interesting that you wanted the room upgrade....I was only looking to get the ceremony costs comp'ed. I figured if we could save that $950 we could apply it elsewhere like maybe to the cost of my dress or something. I also got the room price comparison back from our TA, which I will post shortly because I need to go into my email and grab them. For us it looks like it is more cost efficient to stick with the Pearl package versus downgrading to the free. That Premium Suite is alot more expensive than I anticipated. And yes, the inspiration board seems to be my thing as of late! I sit there and dissect them and pull all the images that I love! Who would have ever thought that would be the "fun" part of all this for me. Go figure, an inspiration board nerd! LOL Lastly, I second your motion on theknot.com. I only use that site now to pull photos from for inspiration. Other than that, I find it pretty useless. YAYYYYYY!!!! How exciting!!! Congrats and I can't wait to hear all about your wedding!!!!! I'm not much help with the color decision phase, but if you tell me your final colors, I'll pull some boards for you! I'm sorry that you woke at the ass crack of dawn only to be disapointed, but I will say that I LOVE your attitude about it and because of your positive energy, you will no doubt find "YOUR" dress. It's also great to see another Mommy on here. I've got a 9 year old daughter myself! WOW! Thanks for sharing that advice.....who or what was the name of your DJ or DJ company???? We are heavily contemplating booking a DJ right now and it would be helpful to know who to avoid, if you don't mind that is. YAY!!!!! You are on point, Maggie! Don't read it!!!! It had me second guessing our choice as well and was going to stress me out. If you want to be fair, pick two other hotels and read their reviews as well. People seem to only use TA.com if they have major complaints to air. Don't torture yourself. Love, love, love your blue shoes!!!! This is a sexy and fun pic and I love it! I think it is all a matter of personal preference and the two of you have to do what is right for you guys. We are also taking photos prior to our ceremony and it made me feel better that we will already be married so that I won't have all that superstitous crap lingering around in my brain.

I too don't like that the ticker is gone. That was one of the ways that I kept track of who was who as well when usernames's failed my memory. I'm sure they will work that kink out though in due time because everybody loves their ticker's, even the moderators who have been married for years and are now counting down their second or third pregnancy. LOL Your bouquet choice is beautiful and I like the pink speckles in the white flower. What is that type of flower called? I've seen a fire and ice rose that looks similar, but never one that has that tropical look. Pretty!

I haven't heard anything from Faye yet and although I am not as close as you are with our date, I am starting to get a little flustered with the lack of communication too. I am not quite freaked out yet, but I understand your concern. I wish there was something I could say to help ease your worries here. I do think that if we are patient, it will all work out. I realize that is not saying much given your timeframe, I just get the impression that Karisma WC is REALLY understaffed right now and trying to figure out how to spread their brides out. I guess I just keep thinking that at this point, no news is good news. Is there anything you need help with right now that any of us can help you with???? You know I will help you in any way that I can, even if it means making some calls or scouring the net for you. I never saw you ask about the webinar, but yes....I was informed of the date and time by our very first TA. I wouldn't rely to heavily on that as a good sign though because she pushed us off in the webinar so that she could avoid answering some of the vital questions we were asking. And after the webinar still didn't do her job for her, we kicked her to the curb. I didn't think you would be interested seeing as they usually cater to the "not yet booked" bride and groom, but if you'd like for me to ask my TA when the next one is and how to get you on it....just say the word. I love Tammy and crew for updating things and making it prettier however the learning curve just tries my patience. :-/ I know it is for our benefit though so I digress. Thanks for sharing that info with me! I am still waiting on our TA to get back with us. I emailed her last Thursday to ask her to provide the costs for both classes of Suites and she has yet to respond. (That is another issue and being that she is my 2nd TA, I cannot even begin to put too much energy into that topic right now.) Anywho, as soon as I hear back from her and can do a price comparison, I will let you know how the rates fare for us. Thanks for remembering me! ;-) Quote: Originally Posted by msmarmar123 So...I am trying to pick colors and I think I've decided that I really like navy blue and hot pink and white together....Has anyone used those? Thanks again for my inspiration board! Loved it! Check out Oriental Trading Company for maracas. They also have a fiesta section and a wedding section. I just purchased paper lanterns and parasols from here too. Cheapest I've found so far and great quality. I too am missing Cecile!!! I am feeling spoiled because she was sooooo responsive. But I hope she si happier wherever she has gone because I'm sure that can become a stressful job. :-( I just hope Faye can pull her weight and dive in working! Keep meaning to check my reciepts, but we had guests, so I will try in the next couple of days. No transport/taxis are at the resort. If you need one, you'll have to get the luggage men to call one for you. However there are usually a few parked just outside on the roadway. I think they sit there hoping for a call. From what we saw it usually took about 5-10 minutes. Not sure what the prices are though. Thanks for sharing this info! Quote: Originally Posted by amybermuda Hi Ladies! All the stress and stupid crap we encounter dealing with family and travel issues, Miami coordinators, Lomas, then going through the hotel staff - yes I know its hard - but my wedding in Mexico was stress free and carefree and awesome. Saturday solidified my destination wedding choice that much more. I mean, 1/2 my guests would have missed my ceremony had we been having a traditional wedding on Saturday. I have attached the picture here... the tag says "Instead of tapping on your glass, here is a system with Mexican Class. Stand and shake with all your might to see the groom kiss his bride tonight." I copied it from one of the brides here. I thought it was super cute. You can even get small donkeys and pinatas. My FI wasn't crazy about the donkeys or pinatas but it's sooo cute. Yeah, I was thinking about buying pashminas and laying them over the back seat of the reception chairs, but we shall see. Thanks for sharing the maracas info! I will go and check them out! Hi Amy! If the lantern purchase falls through for any reason, please let me know and I will take them! Also, what are the "Vitamin bags with white strip to write on and black sharpie – unused $5"? -

I would love to see them because I am currently trying to decide between the location you mentioned, Plaza Zavaz, and a beach wedding. The only reason I am hesitant to have it on the beach is because I read that it gets really windy there in the evenings and I believe others said their guests were cold on the beach. Can you think of any other cons or pros of a beach reception you may have witnessed while there that I should keep in mind for our guests? My 85 year old grandmother will be there and I want to ensure that she is comfy....although I'm sure she'll probably turn in when we start dancing. Oh and I cannot take any credit for the inspiration boards! I found those two online at past sites I have visited just for gingerlover because she said her FI sprung new colors on her. :-) I've been cruising photos for the past 2 weeks trying to nail down our color scheme. BUT, I did make one for Meredith that I was pretty proud of but for her's I used photobucket. What is this big and something that you speak of? ? ? We have 10 months until our day and now have 33 guests booked, so all indoor options are out for me. I too am waiting to get our room total back from our TA before I decide on the package. Because if the premium is $3,500 for a week and the average room is $2,000 a week, than it makes no sense to go for the so called "Free." I knew we'd want it outside but prefer NOT the beach. So, I booked Plaza Zavas when I booked my date. I wouldn't provide my deposit to Karisma until I had confirmation that I could have BOTH the ceremony date/time as well as the reception location. It took a long time to get confirmation on it and I was worried I'd lose my date entirely - but it worked out. Of course now, depending on how big our group gets, it looks like we may have to readjust our planning if we're too large for the space. But I'm not going to worry about that yet. :-) That was a good idea! I wasn't even that forward thinking when we booked. I figured it would all work itself out but now that I am beginning to think about decorations and paper lanterns, I'm trying to decide where we will hold ours so that I don't make a bunch of unnecessary purchases. There is a wedding one hour after ours and as kind as I'd like to be, I want for choice! :-) Quote: Originally Posted by beaz2be Ok, you'd THINK I'd be clear on this by this point but I'm still confused. I'm just wanting to be sure we need to book in at that high of a level (because I was originally planning on saving the upgraded room for our honeymoon). I'm not clear if others were told that it makes a difference what level of room they book in themselves. Yes, I was told that to qualify for the free package our room had to be a Premium room or higher. I am having our TA run the room price comparisons as we speak because we also booked our wedding within 10 days of participating in the webinar and now qualify for a free room upgrade, whatever that may be! For sure on the 15 rooms! Our TA said you have to book 7 nights in the premium suite or higher and the additional 15 nights of guests booked in any class of rooms.
