  1. We knew we wanted to get married right on the beach and have a simple ceremony. Couples Swept Away grabbed our attention over the other all inclusive resorts because of the grounds, its activities, and they offer rooms right on the beach. The small complimentary wedding package is included with our stay, so we were sold. They have a wedding planner we meet with when we get there to take care of everything. It is not the right choice for someone who wants complete control over every detail ahead of time (although they do accomodate requests made via e-mail). It is perfect for us.

We are getting married at Couples swept away and the options are vanilla, chocolate, or Jamaican fruit cake. I wanted to get the fruit cake but was worried since american fruit cake is so terrible! I think I'm going to go for it after reading your comment. We are not upgrading our cake. It's a small relatively plain 2 tiered cake that feeds 10. We are having an elaborate cake at our reception at home so I can't justify the extra expense!
  3. I read that schools are opening back up and things are dying down, but I also read that police are bombing parts of Kingston. Mr. Coke is still at large but so far the violence has not spread. Jamaican police supposedly are trying to kill him, and US police want him alive. We decided NOT to move our wedding, but I am absolutely holding my breath for the next couple weeks praying that the violence does not spread.
  4. Our colors are teal (and variations like turquoise..it was hard to find turquoise in some things), sandy brown, and a little bit of green. The problem I'm running into with teal is there aren't a lot of blue flowers, let alone teal, so we are going with all white. I love bright pinks, purple, and orange for a destination wedding. Blue has always been my favorite color, so I knew I had to go with it.
  5. We are flying out June 13 with 13 guests and this news is making me very nervous. My fiance is ready to cancel (we have traveler's insurance so we would not lose much), but I don't want to do that unless we have to! The thought of moving EVERYTHING and our guests just makes me sick. Right now we are looking for alternative places with available rooms to have in our back pocket and watching the news closely. I certainly do not want to put ourselves or our guests in danger. Right now everywhere says to avoid Kingston, but Negril is really only four hours from there. It's not very far! Technically it's on the other side of the island, but the island is small. An article by the economist states "Mr Coke could escalate the conflict by calling on armed backers elsewhere in the country, like the Stone Crusher gang in Montego Bay, a tourist haven, to stage further attacks." I just hope they hash it out FAST! Don't they know I'm getting married?!?
  6. I can't wait!! The violence in Kingston is making me very nervous though, I'm hoping they hash it out SOON or at least it does not spread to Montego Bay.
  7. The sand ceremony kit is the last thing I need to order before the big day, and I have been struggling to find an affordable one. I was just about to throw in the towel and go to goodwill for whatever vases I could find there and etch them myself with my cricut. The picture frame is such a cute idea. I saw someone on etsy selling these for 50 or 60 bucks and was tempted but I just didn't want to shell out that kind of money for it! I just ordered the frame off amazon for $31 and I plan to still go to goodwill for some pouring vases. I hope it arrives in one piece and I can figure out how to glue them together properly since I'm leaving June 13th, ahhh! Is it relatively easy? I'm a pretty crafty person.
  8. Wow thank you for the very warm welcome! I have been so busy lately I've barely had a chance to look around. Last weekend was my bridal shower (which was beautiful), and this weekend is my bachelorette party Busy busy busy.
  9. So cute! I'm going to head over there today to see if they have any!
  10. First of all what a GREAT board, I am disappointed it took me this long to find it! My name is Lucy, and I am getting married on the beach at Couples Swept Away in Negril, Jamaica in less than a month on June 18, 2010. My fiance Joe proposed May 27, 2009 and we quickly decided to be wed in Jamaica. I have always pictured my wedding on the beach, and we originally were looking at Hawaii, but it wasn't in our budget. We are also having a reception back home on July 10 for those who cannot attend our ceremony. I originally wanted a BBQ in the park, but it has turned into a traditional reception in a banquet hall. Much more money and planning than I expected, but it will be worth it! In the past couple weeks, I have gone into panic mode realizing how close it is and I'm even losing sleep thinking about how I'm going to get it all done! I'm sure you all know what I mean! I look forward to gathering and sharing information with you ladies. You all seem so nice
