  1. Can I ask you how much you gave to the coordinator? I had no idea we should tip her as well until I read your post. We are bringing a photographer with us and rented dj equipment for an ipod. I guess we should be considering the band that plays at the ceremony, the servers at dinner and the bar staff at the reception? I didn't even figure this into our budget.
  2. Old: hopefully a broach borrowed from my grandmother to stick in my bouquet. New: Dress Borrowed: earrings from one of my MOH (I have 2) and an embroidered handkerchief for Greek dancing at our reception Blue: My grandmother embroidered my married name in blue thread on a white piece of cotton and this is going to be pinned on the inside of my dress. With my bouquet, I am also carrying horseshoes on blue ribbons as a gift from my British family who can't make it to the wedding. Instead of 'a penny in your shoe' my dressmaker used a penny as weight for the cowl neck of my dress!
  3. I was wondering the same thing. We are paying for all the bridesmaid hair so how do I tip for everyone? give to each stylist or give a lump sum to the receptionist and tell her to divvy it up?

I will get them finished tonight if it kills me! you're right - We CAN do it!

  6. I had the same fear - we are getting married at the RIU Ocho Rios in July and it will be SUPER HOT! I went to a designer in Toronto who specializes in destination wedding-type dresses (Lowon Pope). No corsets, no heavy layers, just flowy, light dresses. I had my dress designed out of a combo of 2 different dresses so there's no picture but there is no way I could handle a corset in the July heat.
  7. I have decided on the same thing. I bought my MOH and BM monogrammed makeup/overnight bags and have filled them with travel sized everything, a first-aid/hangover kit (advil, tums, travel sized gravol, travel sized claritin, bandaids, hand sanitizer) Bath & Bodyworks shower gel (they have a huge sale on right now), a box with their jewelry for the wedding, a tide-to-go pen and sunscreen. I am also handing them out before we leave so they can pack what they want. I don't know if I am going to put something together for the groomsmen or not but I have smaller bags with kid-friendly stuff for my flower girls and ring bearer.

If you dont mind me asking how much are they quoting you to have all of that done? Just to add...our whole decor/flower budget was $2500 and Tai Flora has quoted just under $2400 for everything. This includes my bouquet, 4 wrist corsages for bridesmaids, 3 groomsmen boutonnieres (the groom's flowers are free), 5 boutonnieres for parents, 2 wrist corsages for our mothers, 2 flowers for my hair, 45 mahogany chairs for the ceremony, upgraded bamboo arch with white draping (#45 on website), centre pieces, table linens, 3 lit cocktail tables for the after dinner reception and 8 wrapped palm trees. They have also really impressed me with their correspondence, usually I will receive a reply within the hour of emailing them and it has never been later than the next day.

If you dont mind me asking how much are they quoting you to have all of that done? Hi! Tai Flora is actually providing our upgraded chairs and archway for the ceremony, centre pieces and table linens for dinner and wrapped palm trees and lit cocktail tables for the after dinner reception as well as our flowers etc. for the wedding (in case you have any other questions). For the centre pieces, I am doing a white flower arrangement with floating candles and flower petals - 10 at $45 each. Because we are sticking with the free cake and dinner we wanted to spend a little extra for the decor.
  10. I am going to use your hangover kit template! thanks so much for posting!

I hope to find some good info on this forum and maybe get some relief from knowing that I'm not the only one going through this. One Love, Cris Hi! I am getting married July 20 in Ocho Rios ~ where are you staying?? We are at the RIU Ocho Rios. Congratulations on your wedding! It's coming up quickly!!
  12. Another Toronto bride! Congratulations! This website has been nothing but help for me Good luck!
  13. Thanks for your insight! I have less than 5 weeks to go so I hope I can put together enough bags. All the best for your wedding!
  14. I am looking to purchase bulk dried lavender to use as confetti after our ceremony. I am in Toronto. I have found it online but we fly in less than 5 weeks and no one can guarantee shipping within my time frame. Does anyone know where I can get dried lavender in Toronto/southern Ontario? OR anywhere that will ship it in 2-3 weeks? thanks!
  15. Thanks for the advice - I had never thought about asking the people traveling with us to pack bits and pieces with them. We have 47 people so far traveling over 3 days so I am sure that it can work out one way or another! thanks again!
  16. I am not doing an OOT bag either. I am giving my bridesmaids monogrammed toiletry bags with mini-toiletries and their jewelry for the wedding day but that's it. There is a strict luggage restriction for Montego Bay airport from June to September (our wedding is in July) and I can't pack 47 additional bags for our guests. I am sending out Jamaica info packages shortly with some ideas about what to do in Ocho Rios, maps of the resort and town etc. and hopefully with keyholder tags if I can find some in Toronto. Don't feel selfish! I have been to 2 destination weddings (Mexico and Cuba) and have never received an OOT bag!
  17. Your fans are exactly what I was looking for - beautiful! I am tackling a big DIY fan project because I couldn't find the fans I wanted in Toronto. I am making fans myself that double as wedding programs so each section has info on it (from martha Stewert weddings) including the itinerary of the day. I am going to post pics when I am finished
  18. Holy cow these are fantastic! When are you giving them to your guests? I have toyed about making these but my guests are flying to Jamaica over 3 days so I would rather hand them out prior to the departure date but is that tacky?
  19. shipping to Canada isn't that much - I just ordered some makeup brushes from Michigan to Toronto and I think I paid $6.32 in shipping. Can you post a pic of the wristlet please? I am interested but would like to see a photo...the link that is posted needs a password. Thanks!
  20. The restrictions that I am referring to are on the West jet website. It is only for the Montego bay airport between June and September. I actually called West Jet about it and they said that because MB is a small airport and they get a lot of huge planes from Europe with travellers packing for a month holiday, they had to implement a luggage restriction for all planes because the airport simply can't handle the volume. They are not allowing any overages in weight either so if the suitcases are over 50lbs, they can't go on the plane whether we offer to pay for the excess or not. I am just nervous about bringing our wedding stuff. We have fans for our 47 guests to use during the ceremony, my bridesmaids are carrying parasols (which they are packing themselves) and I am bringing down an extra one just in case, my flowergirls are carrying fairy wands that I have to pack...the list goes on with the little bits and pieces that we are including. It's almost Murphy's Law at work because MB is the only destination with this restriction and apparently it's a new rule as of this year.
  21. This makes sense for our booking at the ROR. We are bringing our photographer with us for the week so I guess because he is a guest, the restrictions of shooting in the rooms do not apply. I have seen other photos of weddings there and they had interior photos but I don't know if those photographers were also staying at the hotel or not.
  22. I'm getting married on July 20th at RIU Ocho Rios and haven't heard anything about photographers in the rooms. I hope it's not a problem when we get down there!
  23. Is anyone booked to fly on West Jet to Montego Bay? There are specific luggage restrictions for this destination from June to September and I am nervous about bringing all our wedding stuff down (fans for the guests etc.). How is everyone else packing?
