  1. ohhh so that's how you get to junior member status! i'm gonna start posting away.
  2. How much do you ladies estimate your budget is for your large DW? I read in another forum that some women have budget as low as $4,000 but they were only having around 20 people. For all of you having 50 ppl and more what's your budget?

The poster that was able to do the RSVP/deposit thing and have her be the one booking the rooms is a great concept. However, it is working with her because her resort is small and you can really only book rooms there directly. If you are planning your wedding at a large resort that won't really be feasible as guests could book their rooms anywhere. DW guests tend to ignore RSVP dates. Don't assume because you set one you will know how many guests you have going on that date. Hardly anyone RSVP's to DW's. They ignore RSVP dates and booking deadlines. Some will book last minute online rather than through your agent and not even RSVP. Believe me it happens!!! My advice is to stay in contact with those on your guest list either via email or newsletters so you can keep guests updated and send them reminders. Also set reasonable deadlines. Most guests are used to booking vacations 3-4 months in advance of their travel so asking them to make a firm decision 6+ months in advance won't really work with the exception of your VIPs (i.e. immediate family and wedding party will often book early with you). You can set up group booking with early deposit dates and booking deadlines. I am not saying not to at all. I am just saying be prepared for that not to work with everyone on your guest list. There are always stragglers. Great advice! I'll definitely take this into consideration when I seriously start sending out invites. Thanks!
  4. Heartbeat, I read that you were natural. How do you plan on styling your hair for ur day? I think the best part of this DW planning is being natural and not having to worry about my hair. I think I wont to wear to wear it in an updo with an orchid in it somewhere. Natural hair is so versatile. You don't have to get a perm to get it bone straight, just get a dominican blowout before. It will give your hair that perm look without having to put the "creamy crack" back in your hair.

How did you decide on Iberostar Rose Hall? What made you go with them? I'm leaning towards Half Moon Rose Hall which is close by. It doesn't seem like anyone on this forum is having their wedding at my resort lol. I just wanted to know from another Montego Bay bride what made you choose your resort?
  6. @QueenDiva How did you set it up so that they couldn't even RSVP with sending in a deposit? Is that a feature of your website. It sounds like such a great idea. You seem to have it all figured out! Go ahead girl!!
  7. I also have a large Jamaican family and many of my relatives will be coming from Kingston. However FI is American and has a large family also so we have many people the US also. I'm leaning towards Montego Bay and the Half Moon resort bc it's gorgeous. However in all the times I've been to JA i've never been to MoBay only to Ochi, Kingston, etc. I've heard that Negril has the best beaches but that's too far from the airport (which was the main reason in picking MoBay) Can anyone tell me what they thought of MoBay? Beaches? Ride from the airport?
  8. oh wow I didn't even think of all these things. I would be STRESSSSING out! Your wedding is so close. How exciting! I hope everything works out well for. At the end of the day, you'll be having a beautiful DW in a beautiful island. God Bless!
  9. I would like to get married at the luxurious Half Moon Rose Hall in Montego Bay, Jamaica. This resort is quite pricey but it is so gorgeous. I feel that for MY wedding day I should get what I want. Trust me you won't look back on your wedding and say "This resort is too nice I should have went with the cheaper one", but you will regret having at resort that is not as nice or does not go with YOUR vision of how YOU want YOUR day. At the end of the day, this wedding is about YOU (sometimes your FI lol) If people don't like they don't have to show up. It'll save you the headache and money. I have a motto for my wedding: "MY wedding OUR marriage" This is your one day, in my opinion, to be selfish, and really get what you want. You only get married once!!!
  10. I looooove these shoes for my wedding! They're gorgeous Yves Saint Laurent*-*Rosette-Ankle Sandal*-*Neiman Marcus
  11. I know many people opt for a DW bc it's a chance for a stress free, small intimate group of close friends and family. But is anyone having a wedding comparable to a wedding back home, a wedding w/ 100+ people? I'm interested in having a DW with at least 110 people. What are some the stresses you've dealt with? How are you coordinating this wedding group, etc? Share you large scale DW stories.
  12. Yves Saint Laurent*-*Rosette-Ankle Sandal*-*Neiman Marcus I love these shoes for my wedding!!
  13. Hi Ladies I'm looking for any one who has had or is having their wedding at Half Moon in Montego Bay. I'm deciding between that resort and another Montego Bay resort and would like to hear a review from anyone of the BDW ladies on their experience at Half Moon. Thanks in advance.
  14. Hey ladies. The resort I'm thinking of having my wedding at doesn't have the linens I really want. I'm thinking of renting linens here in NYC where I live and then either shipping down to my aunt in MoBay to use for the wedding or bringing them down to JA myself. Have any of you rented linens, sashes, etc. elsewhere and brought them down for your wedding? Do most resorts allow this?
  15. do STD's have to be the same color as the wedding colors? Bc i'm unsure of what my wedding colors will be.
  16. Thanks!! you guys have given me so much confidence to continue doing what i'm doing! BDW is so great for ideas and I've created a folder and a binder for all the great ideas that I see here that I want to incorporate into my wedding. All you guys will prob be gone from this website by time my wedding comes LOL! so congrats to alllll you guys on your upcoming weddings. Be blessed and happy planning
  17. I'm planning to get married in Montego Bay at the Half Moon Resort. We're planning to have a wedding weekend with Day 1 being a Welcome Dinner. Day 2 being a Fun Day with an Activity for the guests to attend if they would like or they can stay at the resort at their leisure. Day 3 - THE BIG DAY and Day 4- Thank you/ Farewell Brunch. My question is for Day 2, the Fun Day, I want to take a day trip with my bridal party and guests to Mystic Mountain in Ocho Rios. I also think it would be nice if the guests had the chance to climb Dunn's River while theyre there. Has any one ever been to Mystic Mountain or Dunn's River with a large group? How much was it? If staying at the resort what kind of activities did you plan for your guests?
  18. My problem is I like too MANY colors. Since I'm Jamaican and getting married in Jamaica I really want a tropical feel to the wedding and I want that reflected in the colors. So I'm thinking hot pink (raspberryish) and orange but I also love coral, and turquoise ....ugh its just too much. I really need help narrowing down. Ideally I would like a hodepodge of tropical colors bc that's what my bouquet and floral decorations would look like.
  19. Calling all Half Moon brides? Tell us your experience with the resort.
  20. How far in advance did you ladies start planning your wedding? Mine isn't until 2013! But I'm already planning and collecting pictures of things I have to have.
  21. Hey ladies. I'm already planning my 2013 wedding in Jamaica. I'm hoping to have it at Half Moon in Montego Bay Jamaica.
