wedding day mishaps (feel free to add your own!)
JoanneIreland replied to boscobel's topic in Just venting or funnies
My husband spelled his middle name WRONG on all our marriage license and all the other paperwork!! We didn't know until I went to pick up the marriage license the day before the wedding. Instead of Roy he put Rory making the license invalid. I couldn't get in touch with him and started second guessing myself that maybe it was Rory and I was wrong thinking it was Roy, and starting wondering what an awful wife I would be if I didn't even know my fiance's middle name! Eventually got a hold of FI and he swore black and blue he signed everything Roy, that's his name he knows how to spell it, blah blah and wouldn't believe me that it was signed Rory. I dashed home and got his passport to verify the name and thankfully the clerk was able to change the license 5 minutes before the town hall closed and wedding was next day!! I got a copy of the original forms to proof to hubby that he did indeed fill out the applications with wrong name! -
I honestly didn't eat very much, I was too excited to be able to! I ate a little of the curried chicken and tomato salad and it was really good. I had a little onion soup but was afraid of splattering my dress so only had a few spoons, but it was standard french onion soup. I was away getting my bussle on my dress when main course was served so I only picked at the potato when I came back, I really wasn't hungry at all because of the excitement all day. Now what i did eat and love was the raspberry tiramisu ..... that was incredible! I have some pictures that I'll post below, some from my wedding, some I got from other brides before my wedding when we were deciding on our menu : Tomato Salad : Sea Scallop and Mango Ceviche : French Onion Soup : Lobster Bisque : Surf and Turf : Lukewarm Half Baked Chocolate Fondant : White Chocolate Rasberry Tiramisu :

Gorgeous, I think this is one of my favorite rings on here, congrats! -
Hi! We had the reservation made before we left for Mexico. I gave our w/c our preferred date and time for our welcome dinner and asked what the options were. She came back stating Rodizio (The Brazilian Restaurant) at the Palace could accomodate my request. I knew we would have to pay the $15 per guest not at the Palace (probably why they offered this restuarant!!), but it was worth as it was only 4 people were not staying at the Palace, plus our guests at the Palace did not have to trek across the huge resort to get to dinner on time, and in addition everyone loved the Brazilian! The appetizer course was buffet and it was really nice, and the main course was actually 7 courses of different meat which they served right off of huge skewers, it was a lot of fun and our guests really enjoyed it. Talk about meat sweats!! We actually had our welcome 2 days before the wedding (i did not want to be drinking the night before and I was worried about my hubby going a bit overboard with the lads) so we were missing a fewfor this dinner, but i think there were about 20 of us. If they can't fit a huge party into a restaurant I've read online that they will section off a private area of the buffet for you.

We stayed 2 weeks at the Palace, and hope to return to the Barcelo again and if we do we plan to stay at the Palace again. All of our guests loved it and hope to return aswell, also to the Palace. Guests that stayed at the Tropical said next time they will pay the extra to stay at the Palace. We saw the rooms at the Tropical and the Palace are definitely much nicer and newer. If you can afford it it's worth the extra money to book the Palace.

Just to add to the above, we had all our guests stay at the Palace except for 4 who stayed at the Tropical. We had our welcome dinner at an A La Carte at the Palace, and had to pay $15 per person for any guests not staying at the Palace. We were lucky it was just 4 people, so only $60. Because we paid the $15 each, these guests were able to hang out and drink with us after the meal at the Palace bar for the night as well. One day these 4 guests joined us at the Palace pool bar, but they were asked to leave. To be fair to the Palace staff, they were very nice and discreet about it. They came up to my husband and explained that they couldn't be there. I totally understand, if I was there on vacation and paid more for the Palace and I saw guests from other sections being able to use the facilities I paid more for then I would be annoyed so I completely understand why they try and enforce this.

I got the napkin beach chairs at the Christmas Tree Shop in Natick, MA. The shells were made by our resort, i just gave them an inspiration picture of a cake, told them it didnn't need to be exactly the same, use their own judgement and that's what they came up with. I must still take pictures of the fans and stuff and send to you, I've just had no time! We got back after Thanksgiving and then it was hectic coming up to Christmas and New Year. Now it's 2012 I have no excuse and must get organized! I do have a bunch of supplied for First Aid Kits that I will most in the For Sale section in the next few days.

Welcome to the forum FireyNurse! We just got married last month, so November 2011, and I have to say it's a beautiful time of the year down there! November 2012 sounds good! Do you know what date? We were there for 3 weeks, and in the first week it was transitioning from hurricane season so we did have a lot of lunch time showers that could run into the afternoon. It was have been coincidence, but I'm suspecting that this is the norm as the rates changed on November 15th. Stays before the 15th were cheaper per night than after the 15th. It hiked up again at the very end of the month over Thanksgiving. Sorry I have no pics of the on-site photographer as we bought in our own. I know if you go back on this thread other brides have used the onsite photographer.

You can use the onsite photographer (kodak) or bring in an outside vendor. If you bring your own photographer he/she must either be a guest at the hotel or you must pay a $300 fee to onsite kodak guys to substitute their loss of business. We got married last month at the Barcelo Palace, but paid for our photographer to stay at the Barcelo Tropical as it was cheaper than the Palace. We hired Ivan Luckie, who we thought was amazing, but we are still waiting to recieve or professional photos. Once we get those I will write a review and post some pics. Paying for accomodation was a better option for us than paying the $300 fee as we were meeting Ivan the next day for our TTD shoot. Good luck!
