We went and did our gift registry today! At first I questioned even doing one because of the DW but I think it's a good idea knowing my mom & sister and my friends will throw a shower... I really don't expect gifts at the actual wedding. What about you ladies? Registering or not?

Any Gran Bahia Principe Runaway Bay Brides out there?

About the menu... can you switch stuff around? I was looking at it and it seems like every menu has a few things I like and a few that I wouldn't really care for. I guess they'll be changing it a bit for 2011 anyway though, right? I emailed her like 3 weeks ago and this was one of the questions (menu stuff), she emailed me the day after saying "Thanks, I'll answer these questions for you tomorrow" ... nothing since then. I know she's busy but it gets super frustrating... I want to start on all my stationary stuff (programs, menus, etc) soon because I know it's going to take me a while to do them up to my own personal standards. It's really tough designing stuff for your self when you're a graphic designer... nothing ever satisfies me! Haha. On a more fun note, we went and did our gift registry today! -
I don't think you're doomed! But it all depends on your situation. A lot of our friends are still students or just starting out (meaning... broke), so we needed to give them a year to save. I'd send out STD's asap though to give everyone a head start. Good luck and happy planning !

Thanks for all the info! I've been waiting for answers for a WHILE from her as well... the last batch I sent, she actually emailed me back a day after saying "thanks for your mail, I will respond tomorrow" ... that was over a week ago... That really sucks about the menus! I really wanted to get started on all my stationary... -
I hear you ladies about heavy dresses! I'm easy to please, saw my dress the minute I walked in and was ready to buy and leave, but the sales girl wanted me to try on more.. so I agreed. The dresses she brought me... wow. I made a rule. If it was struggle to hold it in my hands I wasn't putting it on my body! Can you imagine how hot 90% of dresses would be in Jamaica??? I didn't get a boring dress by any means, it's all lace with some cute details, and the best part is it's TWO LAYERS... that's it... so breezy and comfy. ... Now I just need to stay off the "Show off your dress" thread! Every time I'm there I think I made the wrong choice

Ya that's completely normal. It took her a few weeks to put through our payment... not to mention us calling her and telling her to TAKE OUR MONEY! Haha. This is the first time someone has taken so long to take a deposit, it's strange... -

Katelynn - We haven't told her where we want to eat... but we are having a hard time getting a hold of her. We actually called her to confirm that she got our deposit. If you have your trip booked already, PAY HER. Seriously, call her and tell her you want to pay your deposit. I'd hate for someone to end up in the same situation we are... it really sucks. We can't have the gazebo after for a reception because "the other couple has it". -

I'd love to know too... although I'm dealing with the misforutane of getting married on the same day as someone else because our wedding date got double booked and even though we had it reserved first, the other couple paid first. Yay!!! Either way, we're kind of stuck getting, well, their leftovers, it seems. -

Hey! I don't know anything about decorations except "wedding site will be decorated for your wedding colours". But for flowers Katelynn emailed me what she got from the florist that the resort uses. If you PM me your email address I can forward it to you. -
Lisa, Go with what's comfortable. I honestly think that they're both beautiful and it's totally how you dress it up. My dress is pretty simple but I adore it and to make it a tad more extravagent (while still being comfortable in ridiculous Jamaica heat) I'm getting a really pretty head piece made that dresses the whole thing up a bit, you know? Good luck!

I'm having bridesmaid issues too... ughhh... I guess that makes a lot of us, eh? Most of my friends are guys. I literally only have a few amazing girlfriends who I love to death. It made choosing my bridesmaids A LOT easier though . So I had 3. My MOH, my sister, who I love dearly and is my best friend in the world. My best friend from high school, and my other good friend who I worked with for an entire summer and we became inseperable ever since. Either way, #2 went to live in Australia for a year with her boyfriend. She left in September. I'd mentioned the wedding to her before we were in engaged last January (we've been dating for almost 9 years and I knew the proposal was coming) and when she told me about this Australia thing I was thrilled for her. She originally told me 6 months. So when we did get offically engaged we planned the wedding for May, thinking she'd be able to make it. I literally planned this for her. THEN she comes out and tells me they're thinking a year now. This is AFTER I asked her and she said yes. I was so upset. When I finally talked to her she said she still planned on coming. I left it at that but in the time after we fought about it and I mentioned how much it was going to cost her to fly from Australia and stay in Jamaica and she was shocked. She thought it would be $1000 for everything. Seriously??? So, like I said, she left mid September. As of right now I have 2 bridesmaids. If she decides to come then I'll have 3. ... As you can tell I'm still pretty upset about it. She's been my best friend (besides my sister) since grade 9 and I feel heavily shafted that I'm coming second. When we planned a DW we knew a lot of people wouldn't be able to make it and we promised we wouldn't get upset... but I didn't see this one coming at all. /vent

I have a rather weird question, but thought someone here might randomly have had it to and saves me waiting on a response from Beverly... I do want to do centerpieces at the dinner but nothing too extravagant because of bringing them with, and really, we're not at dinner too long anyway. BUT I really wanted to bring along some tall (plastic, If I can find them!!) vases and do palm leaves with some other decorative touches. Can I go grab them from the trees, or heck the beach? Haha. Kind of ridiculous but I have a great plan in mind and since we're only planning on having 20-25 guests (right now we have 16 + us booked), it would only be like 4 or 5 of them... Hmm... ? -

Also, while I was home my MOH and mom threw a suprise pampered chef shower for me that was a total suprise and amazing! Still waiting on my dress and the favours to come in but thats about it....just seems like little things now. I am currently looking into flowers as everything I have seen all has roses which I dont want, so we will see! I really under estimated how much work it would be to plan a wedding a do schooling and work full time all at once...I keep dreaming of laying on the beach with a cold drink in my hand! lol We fly in on the 30th so maybe we will see eachother in passing. How are things going with you? Things are going pretty good. Dress is bought, bridesmaids dresses are bought, FI's suit is bought (still need tie & shoes). Trip is booked, us + 17 guests as of right now. We're having our honeymoon at Sandals Ochos Rios the week after, so we'll be going straight there from GBP on the 30th. So that will be booked and paid for next week. We're going to be doing our registry in November. Photographer is booked. Save the dates were sent out middle of August. Our website is up, I need to update it a bit but what can you do, I'm busy! (www.tristaandkai.com) .. I haven't started with flowers yet... they're not a big deal to me (I'm not a big flowers person), but I agree that roses can be kind of cliche. It Beverly would ever get back to me I'd ask her about them! -
I'll have to ask about the hat. That's hilarious though. The random things that go missing from parties... it's strange. We were charging $3 for drinks. We did something a little different for raffle tickets. Our regular tickets were 10 - $5 or 25 - $10, grand prize tickets (TV) were 1 - $5, 3 - $10, and the biggest HIT ever was we did a "prize pack". $20 for 30 regular tickets & 5 grand prize tickets. Everyone went for it. There's something about Winnipeggers... we love a deal, haha. We also did 50/50 and made about $200 of of it. We were going to do texas mickey but we decided last minute that everyone like cash and not everyone like rye. Wedding stuff is in the works. Our wedding is April.28th so we've still got some time. We did the social early because a friend of mine (who was supposed to be my bridesmaid) moved to Australia for like 2 years... so we wanted to have her there and did it 2 days before she left . How about you guys?

I'm a graphic designer so I did mine myself. Speaking from my experience prices vary a lot. If you go with a freelance designer it will be a LOT cheaper. I know for freelance I only charge about $15/hour but the company I work for charges $95/hour. It's so worth it to get something done professionally though instead of messing around in word. (Most) designers know what they're doing and can create something professional and in a good enough quality that you can use it in all your wedding applications If there's anything else design related that anyone needs help with, I'd love to help

Manitoba / Winnipeg girls - Post Social information here!
tris replied to Joss's topic in Wedding Music & Entertainment
Aw, that's awesome that you get to show him the fun of a social!! In regards to tickets, I'm a graphic designer so I'm SUPER picky and did mine myself... but the company I work for has really good deals for social tickets too. We give a huge discount if you let us put our logo on the back. And it's all custom designed. If anyone wants info let me know, I don't know if I'm allowed to post on here. :S -

We booked in about 10 months advance and then had to change the date. Ugh... Katelynn - How's planning going??? Since I moved to April I haven't been able to keep up with you as much. I don't think we'll end up being at the resort at the same time anymore... We're leaving April.30th and *hoping* to do a week at Sandles Ochos Rios for our honeymoon right afterwards.
