    Most resorts that I've contacted won't allow you to do speeches (with a mike) or even play music at the semi-private receptions because they are typically held in one of the resort's restaurants in an area that has been sectioned off. And they don't allow you to stay longer than 1.5 hours... For us, opting to upgrade to a private reception for $15 per person is worth it - you get 3 hours of food and alcohool, a dance floor, time for speeches, etc. Then, because it's over so quickly, you can just head out to one of the clubs in Playa and dance the night away.

    I actually ordered some business cards from Vistaprint yesterday to use as key holder tags... can't wait till they get here! The best part? They were free! (well, I paid for shipping but I got a few other things too)

    I just stumbled upon this today! I'm from Vancouver as well and would love to meet up with fellow Vancity brides. I see that there's already been a meet-up but maybe we can arrange for another one soon?

    I think it is because it doesn't say anything about that in the list of packages available. Best thing would be to check with your planner. Who are you dealing with btw? Or have you not contacted them yet?

    It's $15pp for up to 30 hotel guests so I budgeted for an extra $450. We'll probably spend a little less since so far we're sitting at 22 guests.

    I liked the little 'extras' in the Eternity package... I figured we would've paid for some those anyways so why not get the package that includes them, right?

    We went with the Eternal Romance package and upgraded to a private reception on the beach. We're expecting about 30 people so it works out great.

    I considered a later ceremony because I thought it would be romantic to get married on the beach at sunset but our travel agent and wedding planner advised against it because the lighting at that time isn't good for photos. I ended up going for a 3pm start time...

    Thanks for starting this thread! I'm getting married at the GPR on November 26, 2010 (we'll be there Nov 21-28) I've opted to have a private reception on the beach, I figured since we're having a DW I don't want to be cooped up in a ballroom for the reception. Besides, it's only for 3 hours! The wedding planner I'm dealing with at the resort is Denisse and she's fantastic! Very helpful and returns all my emails promptly. We're currently trying to figure out how to go about stringing paper lanterns above our beachfront reception venue.
