Ladies, I did receive an email from Secrets regarding the disruptive groups... We'll just chalk it up as one bad group but that's not usually the case. I'm still looking forward to my experience there and I'm hoping/praying that there are no corporate groups there the same week! LOL

NEMMERZ, I did reach out to Cecilia to see if she knew of groups who were booked at the same time as our wedding (just so I can have a little pre-warning). I still have nine months to go, but that may be something you want to consider so you'll know what to expect. My hope is that the corporate groups (especially the disruptive ones in the reviews) are a rare occurrence!

Hey Knitgirl, not sure if anyone responded. I was looking at the video packages, and you're right, if you are purchasing the package separately the prices are a little high. You may want to reach out to Cecilia to see if she can recommend a vendor who has other packages available. I am considering web cam, in addition to the video with our package, for my grandmother who most likely will not attend. The only drawback to a web cam without a video package...you won't have the video to keep. I do have another question for anyone, I read trip advisor off and on just to see what others are saying about Secrets. For the most part, great reviews, but here lately people are mentioning huge corporate groups on the property. Does anyone know if that's a serious issue??

Hey JayKay! I'm in the same boat, I feel like there's not much to do right now but I guess that isn't all bad!! One reason we decided to do a destination wedding was to eliminate a lot of the "running around" that comes with doing a local wedding. In the mean time, I've been watching for certain items in my OOT bags or favors to go on sale!

I actually decided on a dress this week! I thought it was a bit early for January, but then read on another thread that 9 months out is recommended! Like you JayKay, my dress is definitely not a beach dress, more formal, but I absolutely love it!!

Hey Labebita911! I actually ended up with a TA recommended by BDW (Teresa Stauring) and I REALLY like her! She has been quick with responding, gives us very detailed information, and has done a great job at making us feel comfortable. Since we have guest traveling from around the country, we wanted someone that we felt very comfortable with. I had actually considered destinationweddings.com and had a TA assigned to me, but the response time was lagging and I didn't want to deal with that (nor did I want to put my guest through that). I definitely recommend you using a TA through BDW!

We booked with Secrets Maroma. We decided to not do a package option (where hotel and flight were automatically included) and simply offer that option (guest can either do hotel only through TA or flight and hotel). Some guest have been able to find great rates on flights separately and so many of our guest are flying from all over the U.S, it just seemed easier to offer the two options.

If I remember correctly from my TA, prices for hotels are generally available one year out, but I say "generally" because some resorts may wait around 320 days out, etc. I was able to reserve a room block through my TA for January 2012. The rates for our particular hotel were available in February (which was actually a surprise for the TA). We just sent our save the dates this week...we wanted to make sure that the rates were locked for our guest prior to sending anything out. My TA actually quoted us estimated prices at the end of last year and those turned out to be the exact prices/rates of our rooms. If nothing else, you can go ahead and book the hotel so the date is solidified.

I completely understand Brenners, 10 months (as of yesterday) and I feel super excited at this point!!

I have a question, did anyone else wire their deposit money for Secrets Maroma? We did and even though it's been a while (Cecilia says they're still holding our date), they still haven't confirmed receipt with the bank. Just wondering...

Regarding the contract, it is really open so you don't need all of the details right now...but know that Cecilia does allow substitutions. Â

Yep Jen, you have a lot of dates there!! lol But you're also right in how time will fly by! I am impressed with all of the ladies on this thread and the amount of planning that has already taken place. I guess we're all on a roll trying to prepare for 2012!!!

 Thank You for sharing! I've been trying to figure out how to bring it up without putting pressure on him or making him feel bad. I know he is planning a "surprise" so it's a little touchy but I am definitely trying to think through how I can share my "likes" so I am definitely smiling in that special moment!

Well, only a handful of people know we've set a date and are getting married...in Mexico! It seems like everybody we know (tons of people) keeps saying that they're looking forward to their invite because they think we're getting married here locally. Well so many (including family) will be in for a rude awakening to know about our plans and the fact that we're only inviting 20 people!!! Secondly, my fi hasn't surprised me with the ring yet and I am soooo scared he will get something I don't like! I do not like solitaires!! The bad part, I don't hide feelings well, they show all over my face so if I don't like it, he'll know immediately!! Sigh....
