  1. I am doing fuchsia, turquoise and white with hints of lime green. My BMs will wear fuchsia and carry fuchsia and lime green flowers. I am either going to have fuchsia or turquoise parasols or maybe both. I am having fuchsia, turquoise and white paper lanterns floating over the reception area. I have turquoise table runners and napkins and the centerpieces will be fuchsia flowers. The tablecloths, chair covers and chair sashes will all be white. I will use pink and turquoise ribbon and pink flowers on the chairs. I have finally figured things out!
  2. We are getting married at home first as well. We were originally going to get legally married in the DR, but then I found out that my time to get legally married would be 11:00am and I would have a symbolic ceremony at 4:00 (the time I want to get married). I figure what is the point of legally getting married there if no one is going to see it anyway. I was told the judge will walk up the beach and have us sign the papers and that would basically be it....how unromantic!
  3. Don't worry, I just received my confirmation from Lauren on Friday for my January 31 2011 wedding. Your date will be fine as long as the pastor is available. I was confirmed for a legal ceremony, but I am thinking about getting married at home and having a symbolic ceremony in Punta Cana because Lauren told me I have to sign the papers at 11am for the legal ceremony and then I will have a symbolic ceremony at sunset that day. What kind of ceremony are you doing?
  4. Our price is a little pricey- $1819 taxes incl. Flying out of Pearson (Toronto). We are staying at the Paradisus Punta Cana. I decided on this resort soley based on pictures. When I read the reviews everyone seemed to love the resort and not many people mentioned being sick. One of the Dreams resorts had a few more people mention getting sick and I can't chance that because my mom will just be finishing up a type of cancer treatment she is on.
  5. Hi Everyone, I am thinking about getting married on a Monday. We arrive Saturday morning, so I am wondering if that will be too quick....I put the date as Monday on my save the dates, but it is no big deal since everyone will be there for the week! Has anyone looked into having a steel drum band perform...
  6. Hi everyone, I am actually planning on getting married Jan. 31, but I figure I am close enough to Feb. to chat with you guys too. I am trying to have a legal ceremony but the wedding coordinator from my resort (Paradisus Punta Cana) told me that the minister is not booking 2011 weddings until June. Has anyone else heard this? So....I have made my save-the-dates and they are ready to be mailed with a wedding date that may or may not happen! I have my dress and my ceremony time, but I have no idea what wedding package I want to do as of yet. I have started my OOT bags and I have booked with my travel agent and have 10 people who have put their deposits down. smtc- try breakawayonline.ca they are in Oshawa, but they have good prices. Ask for Kim, she does the group travel, she has been very helpful and patient with me even though I have asked her for a million prices
  7. Hi Everyone, I finally booked! I am going from Jan. 29-Feb. 5 and will be staying at the Paradisus Punta Cana. I tried to book our legal ceremony wedding on Jan. 31, but the wedding coordinator said the minister is not booking for 2011 until June. Has anyone booked the minister for a legal ceremony already?
  8. Hi everyone, I am getting married sometime in the week of Jan. 29-Feb.5. I haven't booked as of yet, but I know I am going to the Dominican. I have been looking at the Paradisus. I may be interested in sharing a photographer with another bride from Ontario if anyone else is getting married at that time
  9. Congratulations and welcome!
  10. I have never heard of this as well. Everywhere that I have looked at you have to pay extra for the wedding reception dinner because you have to pay for the private service. I don't think you should feel bad or try to pay for that day. No one is going to think like that. No one will want their money back for the day. That is just part of the cost for the trip. Don't worry! Go have fun at your wedding and relax! That is why you are doing a destination wedding anyway!
  11. I feel the same way. On the one hand I want to have a fancy lunch or something and have everyone there, but on the other hand I don't want to be showered with gifts, esp. by people who are paying to attend the wedding!
  12. What a tight situation! You need to do what is best for you. It is your wedding and if you want to pay for someone and not others than you can. People understand that many people are in financial binds right now, so I don't think anyone would be too upset!
  13. I like the idea of the girls being bridesmaids and your mom and stepdad walking you down the aisle. It is your wedding though, so you need to do what makes you happy! Good luck!
  14. Wow! That is horrible! I think you should talk to your mutual friends about the situation. An uninvitation might be a little too bold and it may make them want to come even more. Unfortunately you can't control other people taking a trip and that is probably what they will say to you. Hopefully your mutual friends can talk some sense into them, but if not they can't attend any planned events that you may have and the rest of the time you will have to try to avoid them. I am sorry that you have to experience this on your wedding week!
  15. Your Fi could wait at the end of the alter and each girl could walk down the aisle alone followed by you.
  16. Sides no longer have to be equal. There is no point including people your Fi doesn't feel very close to just to keep the sides equal. I have five and my Fi has 4.
  17. I was so excited that I asked people right away! I have been engaged for a year now and everyone keeps asking me when we are getting married...we haven't booked yet. We think it will be February 2011. I also told the girls that I asked that I completely understood if they were unable to make it. My one friend is trying to get pregnant and if she does get pregnant she won't be able to go, but I want her to be part of my special day if she can. If she can't I don't care if we are unbalanced! I am going to an island to avoid stress!
  18. I agree with DWBridetobe- the office won't shut down for the week so invite everyone! Also a destination wedding is pricey so only people who consider themselves to be close to you will go. I work at a school with over 30 staff so I am just inviting those that I want there!
  19. I am not big on traditions, but I know my Fi's parents are so I am not sure what we will do. I do know that a lot of hotels offer a room for the groom to get ready in the day of the wedding, so I will definately take advantage of that. I would rather my bridal party and my mom help me get ready rather than my Fi!
  20. I think walking yourself down the aisle is completely fine. All eyes are on you anyway!
  21. To those of you who have done or are doing boudoir books, what are you planning on doing with the book after the wedding? Are you going to keep it in a hiding spot or something? I like the idea because after I have kids I know my body will never be the same, but I am wondering what do you do with the book afterwards....
