  1. Thanks for sharing your experience! Do you mind me asking what sort of photo package you got and how much you paid? We are considering bringing our own photographer and I just want to compare the costs. Thanks so much!
  2. Our photographers are a husband and wife team. They have shot many weddings but they haven't done a destination wedding yet. Since we are their first and they are looking to build up their portfolio they have agreed to shoot our wedding for just the cost of travel. We will get a disc and online gallery included. Prints and albums will be extra depending on what we choose. I like the idea of the online gallery because our friends and family can look at the pics and choose which ones they would like printed. I just put an ad on kijiji and craigslist to find them, but beware there are many people that responded that just want a free trip to Jamaica - their pics were awful! Good luck!
  3. We are getting married in February and planning the reception for May. We are just renting a hall, with drinks and dancing. We will probably do a bunch of snack food but not a full out dinner. It's going to be later in the evening so that should be ok. We are renting the hall for the whole weekend and planning on camping out there. Sunday morning we want to do a pancake breakfast for everyone. Very casual but I am definitely wearing my dress again!
  4. For the reception back home I was thinking of a jerk chicken spice rub and Bob Marley CD as favors. Also we are having the guests fill out postcards from Jamaica instead of a traditional guest book. I'll put them in an album afterward.
  5. Akua420- when in February are you going? We haven't picked a final date yet. My TA is on holidays right now, so hopefully once she's back we'll get the final price and make a decision. Who knows maybe I'll see you there
  6. Akua420 i have been pricing out the resort in February too and my quotes have all been around $2000 as well. I think it is pricier at peak season ( but we need to escape the cold Alberta winter somehow ) also I think it might be because we are flying from Calgary/Edmonton instead of further east like Toronto?
  7. Thanks ladies and you are absolutely right! A trip is what you make it and i guess if u want to run around taking pics of dirty carpet on the resort thats your call lol. My very discerning Aunt has stayed at the GBPJ and loved it and I've stayed at a Bahia in Punta Cana and had a fab time.
  8. Thanks Kerri! I was feeling a little worried today because all the latest review on Trip Advisor for GBP are terrible. I started to look at photos and now I'm getting excited again! Maybe the bad reviews are because it's the low season right now? Lots of comments about it being under staffed...
  9. Hi ladies, Great ideas. I was hoping someone could help me out. We are doing kind of a travel themed reception after we return from our destination wedding. Where can I order about 200 postcards for our guest to fill out? they don't have to be from any specific place - just some beautiful vintage inspired post cards from around the world. Also - how in the heck do I subscribe to a thread? lol thanks
  10. I just read through all of the posts and am so excited. Thanks for all the info ladies! I'm another Alberta bride (Red Deer) and we are just getting pricing from the TA but I'm pretty sure we will book at the GBP. Some of my family stayed there and had an awesome time and beautiful photos. I'm most nervous about a photographer - most of the things I've read said that the resort photog isn't great. Anyone from the Calgary area take their own photog? Any recommendations? Thanks in advance for any tips.
