Jellyfish Restaurant
Mel2010 replied to Natural's topic in Destination Weddings in Dominican Republic
Hey Marirocks, Thanks for all the info, we really appreciate it! And for letting us know about the florist, yet another worry set aside. I also noticed that you went with the same photographer as us. I've read nothing but good reviews about Michael & Pascal. Do they always work together these brothers, are will we only get one of the two? -

Hi Marirocks, Just looked at your pictures. You looked amazing, I loved your dress, hair and makeup. Thanks for sharing your pics. This gave a better perspective of the restaurant and the aisle you walked down to the beach. I have two questions for you 1. Did Mayte lay a square of rose petals for you to walk through at the begining of the aisle, or was that something you requested? Or maybe I'm not seeing the setup right, lol 2. What time was your wedding ceremony at? Again, thanks SO MUCH for sharing. The fire dancers were pretty cool too. -

I love that idea of sea food shots!!! I didn't see that as an option on the menu list, and never thought to ask. How much did Mayte quote you per person (if you don't mind me asking) and what ingredients will you have in the shot glass? I so love this idea!!! -

When I asked Mayte if 4 different types of appetizer platters would be too much for 30+ ppl, she said Yes, that's too much food. LOL. So we went with 3 app platters instead. We chose the following: Appetizers: Hot pockets (1.50), Mozzarella sticks (1.50) and Butterfly shrimp (2.50) I figured that cocktail / app hour will only be for 1 hour, and then our guests will move into the restaurant for dinner, so we don't want to feed them too much in 1 hour. If you plan on having a longer cocktail hour, then maybe more food would be the way to go. -

Also, for the bride who was asking about makeup and hairstylist - I'm planning on doing my own makeup and using the hairstylist at the salon on our resort. From all the reviews I've read, most of them are pretty good at doing updos, you just need to bring a few pictures of the updo you want. -

Hey Ladies, It's been a while since I've been on here, I had 25 posts to read!! LOL!! Anywho, I noticed one of the brides was asking about how much to tip Mayte. I'm wondering the same thing. Do any of you have a percentage in mind (5%,10%,15%), and do you plan on giving whatever fits your budget ($100, $300, $500)?? I'm on the fence right now as to how much we should budget for Mayte's tip. I know that she is just amazing at what she does, but I wonder if she gets a cut from the restaurant? Or is she totally underpaid for what she's doing for all us brides?? Need your advice on this one. I can't believe our wedding is in less than 2 months!!! Woohoo!! -

Hi Nana, Yes, we sent out "save-the-date" magnets almost right after our engagement and after confirming our date with Mayte. This way we would notify our guests in advance of our wedding date so that they could start saving now! We sent them out in February, our deposits were due in April and now their final payments our due this month. So they've had tons of notice. Sending out save-the-dates is the way to go for sure! There are tons of ideas on here to help you too! -

Whippet, I responded to your comment in your 2nd post: http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/t/75391/wedding-ruined-by-incompetence-and-mismanagement-at-jellyfish#post_1660573 -
whippet, I'm truly sorry to hear that this happened to you and can only imagine the frustrations your fiance and you are feeling right now. However, this is no way to trash a business, and more importantly, create more worries for brides who are getting married at the Jellyfish. Honestly, it seems as though you are cognitively bias to this situation solely based on your own experience "halo effect" and maybe another bad experience you must of read here on BDW. I have been dealing with the Jellyfish restaurant for the past 9 mths now and have no complaints. The manager (Mayte) is so professional, organized, and knows exactly what she is doing. To say these meanful things about her (i.e spineless) is a little over the top, no? I'm sure Mayte can work something out with you, if not there is another restaurant very similar to the Jellyfish (can't remember the name but it's mentioned in the Jellyfish thread) and this restaurant also has a pool. Maybe you can still keep your date, and just change the location. Again, I'm sorry to hear that you had such a bad experience with the Jellyfish, but honestly I don't know what happened, because this restaurant is AMAZING and all the reviews speak for themselves! Good luck with you planning! Mel

@ LizT: I have gone for one bridal makeup session so far at the Channel counter (which turned out horribly as my makeup was way too dark and dramatic!) and the only tips I've learnt so far are that we shouldn't wear SPF on the wedding day, especially in our foundation, as it's really bad for flash photography. And that on the wedding day, or the night before, we should do a mosturizing face mask so that our skin is beautiful for pictures. If you need to use some SPF, only a small dab should be used. As for makeup, I'm going to do my own makeup. I don't trust the ladies at the salons in the DR and have heard to many horror stories. You should totally go to the MAC counter and get some tipsadvice on how to wear your makeup for the big day. I'd say don't bother booking the makeup session (in less you really need it) because they will charge you $55.00 (that's here in Canada) for the 1hr session, and you only get a mascara out of it. I found that expensive considering you're going to be buying all that makeup afterwards. There is also Sephoras!! I love that place, all the makeup brands in one store! You can't go wrong with them too!! -

Hoping that the Jellyfish restaurant stands strong against this "Irene" hurricane! :S Our photographer said that a wedding got canceled today due to the hurricane! I feel so bad for that poor bride. -

MNtoMX, I just sent Mayte a few pictures of what I have in mind for a cake/cupcakes. When she writes back to me with the quote, I can share the quote with you if you'd like. And send you pics of what cakes I found online. If you google wedding cupcakes, you'll see tons of ideas/pictures. That's where I got my inspiration. But I haven't heard back from Mayte yet. This time around she's taking a lot longer than usual. But I know she's busy. -

Sherio - I am exactly the same way. I love sweets and chocolate. I think I have a serious addiction..lol. We are also having cupcakes instead of a cake (3 tiers of cupcakes with 1 tier cake for cake topper and for "cutting the cake"). So having a sweets table with my cupcakes in my wedding colors would be a dream come true. BTW, Mayte also asked me for a 10% deposit. Liz T: I think you're right about bringing your candy with you in your carry on. I think I'd rather have the candy on me then have it melting underneath the plane in the cargo area. :S -

Any of you ladies thinking of doing a sweets table for your reception? I've seen one bride on here do this and have also seen tons of pics online of other brides having a "Sweets" table. Think it would be bad to bring candy on the plane? Like hard candy, jellybeans, lolly pops, etc? Do you think this stuff would melt? -

Thanks for telling me which salon and that you did your own makeup. Looks like most brieds do their own makeup eh? I guess it's the safest way to go ... LOL. -

Mayte also posted on the FB page that she would never double-book two weddings in one day!! Here's the message she posted: " Hi all brides! Many brides tell me, someone wrote on her wedding day, there were two more weddings in Jellyfish. That's not true! We've never done two weddings at the same time, if it is true that sometimes I can do magic, but never witchcraft. I love perfect job I write this publicly and not worry the wedding day I completely surrendered to the bride. Again, a bride one day" -

Hey Carrie, You can reach the Jellyfish restaurant at the following email addy: [email protected]. The wedding coordinator's name is Mayte. Don't worry if she doesn't get back to you right away, she does at least 2-3 weddings a week so she's extremely busy. But she will get back to you . . . that I can promise you. Check out this forum Jellyfish Restaurant, you'll get tons of info here. And thanks for the hair/makeup advice. I'm thinking of doing the same thing, a trial a few days before, and if it's horrible, I'll do my own makeup. Best of luck, and happy planning!!
