  1. Agreed, trip insurance is advisable for you and your guests. We decided on November 13th, which is the end of hurricane season but still a bit of a risk. Would you consider late October? That might be a little safer. We also have a large covered area in case of rain. Hopefully no hurricane though!
  2. Congrats Amanda! And welcome!
  3. Hi Shannon! We chose a destination for this exact same reason. It is just way more affordable. We are doing a destination wedding in Mexico that is not in a resort. But the cost is really quite affordable although this depends on how many guests you invite. I hope the forum helps you figure it out!
  4. Welcome and good luck planning! Just be forewarned that more people might come than you expect (or less). This forum has been extremely helpful to me as well. And Cabo is a great place for a destination wedding!!

I thought it was pretty and appropriate for the location. All of the jewelry you found on Etsy was beautiful! I will definitely be looking into this. Thanks!
  6. Sounds like a great idea for the cocktail hour! We have a DJ so maybe I will check this out. Thanks!
  7. These do look great! Thanks! We will be ordering koozies as well.
  8. Oh, well then I think they will be just fine. I'm sure it will be a lovely cocktail hour.
  9. Well that sounds like a lot of fun actually! You really don't even need games if you don't want them. It can be a very non-traditional shower. I think I'd want the same.
  10. I think that would be fine. Is there an option to buy wine or beer if they choose? If so, it is definitely fine!
  11. I just bought my bridesmaid dresses at the Limited and they are considered "turqoise" but look a bit more green to me (in person). I love them and they are super light and perfect for a beach wedding. I am thinking of using orange as an accent color and for the flowers since we are doing tropical lilies. 12. I will take the fans if you still have them. I'm sending you a PM now.
  13. I think that's very generous of you! Don't feel bad. I've spent tons of money on my friends' weddings and I never once felt they were in any way cheap. It is the choice you make when you agree to be in someone's wedding.
  14. By the way, I really dislike showers and shower games. But I think this game that I mentioned above makes the shower so much fun. Last month we threw a shower at a nice little cafe my girlfriend. We had lunch and then did this game with the gift opening. Then cake and coffee and that was it. No other games! And I really enjoyed being a part of it.
  15. For all of my friends who got married, we come up with a list of questions to ask the groom (i.e. What was she wearing the first time you met? What does she want most on her registry? What habit of yours does she find most annoying?). Then we put together cards on pretty paper with the question on front and the answer on back. Everytime the bride is about to open a gift, the individual who bought the gift asks a question (they are handed out in advance). The bride attempts to guess what the groom said. If she guesses wrong, they are given a piece of gum to chew. The more wrong questions, the more gum in they have to chew (although you can omit this part and we have on occasion). I have seen a version of this game done where the groom is actually filmed while answering the questions and the video is played with each of his responses. This is a lot of work though. Anyway, this is a great game. It makes the gift opening much more fun and entertaining for guests. But it is a game that the bride really should not be organizing. If you have a friend involved, maybe she can e-mail or meet with your FI to ask the questions and prepare the cards. Often the responses are really quite funny.
  16. Thanks for everyone's input! I've decided to pay for their dresses. They were very reasonable at $65. For the rest of their gift I bought beach bags and luggage tags. I intend to make all their jewelry, but flip flops to match, sarongs and a few other small things. The cost of traveling does really add up and it seems like a nice gesture.
  17. Wow, you are one busy bride! All this is great and you have some really unique ideas here. Thanks for taking the time to share it all.
  18. No, I'm just curious to hear about people's experiences. So far we have all of the big things arranged. I feel like the resort wedding is a bit "safer" in that you know exactly what you're getting. But even if a few things aren't perfect, I think we are going to have a great wedding! We were in Tulum briefly a few years ago and loved it!! I'd like to return one day soon.
