  12. Hi ladies, Count me in as a DPA bride! My FI and I are confirmed for April 30, 2011. I can finally move on to other planning issues now that step is done Adrianne, your pictures are amazing and thanks so much for your planning thread and review!

My fiance is actually the brother of one of my good friends! We first met at a party she had in high school when her parents were out of town (he was 21 and up from college, he and his friends bought the alcohol hahaha). We had a brief romance then, stayed in touch through here over the years, and then "re-met" when he was in town visiting her one weekend... we've been together ever since (2 years now). I had moved to Washington, DC for a research job and my fiance was in the same lab as me (we did have different offices though!) He was dating someone at the time and I was busy studying for the MCAT. I was only going to be in DC for 2 years, so I was not expecting/planning on meeting anyone while I was there. He was kind of flirty with me and I had told my friends back home there was one cute guy in the lab Several months went by, after he had broken up with the girl he was seeing and I was done with the test, he asked me out for ice cream after a big deadline. I thought it was going to be with our other coworkers. I went into his office expecting to leave with everybody, but the other girls were giggling as we left by ourselves! That was our first date. He directly asked me, "do you have a policy against dating co-workers?" and the rest is history. Congrats Nicola on booking! And welcome to the new brides on here!

  18. Congratulations and welcome to the forum! You'll be overwhelmed with information here but I'm so grateful for it. My friends and family are mainly in California, but my FI's family is in Maryland/Florida, so we "triangulated" and decided on the Riviera Maya to be fair to both sides. Best of luck with planning!

  21. Hi Ladies, Count me in for 2011! My FI and I just came back from a site visit through Playa del Carmen and Cozumel. We stayed at the Riu Palace Mexico (nice AI, but we want a ceremony near the water but not on sand, and their plaza is nowhere near the beach) and visited the RPRM (better food, beach is a lot closer than at the Mexico, and the gazebo has a good view of the water). We took a taxi to Puerto Aventuras and got daypasses to the Catalonia Riviera Maya (again, nice AI, okay food, but could not find a good non-sand locale to have the ceremony) and toured Dreams Puerto Aventuras (lovely gazebo and just-in-case-it-rains venues, didn't get to try the food though). We then stayed at the Occidental Grand Cozumel and visited Mr. Sancho's Beach Club/Wedding Garden (more private since it's slightly away from the beach club), but I got waaay too many mosquito bites on the island and my immune system overreacts to bug bites (totally red and swollen, I'm still nursing a few and I've been back for a few days!) - don't want that on wedding pictures! We are thinking this time next year (April/May) and have narrowed it to the Riu Palace Riviera Maya and Dreams Puerto Aventuras. Hopefully we can decide on a place soon to book a date.
  22. Congrats and welcome! Selecting and booking the place is half the battle. This site has been so helpful. Negril is *beautiful*! Best of luck with planning
