  1. LOVE THIS!! Any updates on whether any of the resorts in Dominican allow this??
  2. I'm curious-- where did you purchase the dress??
  3. aaronlori - I've booked Julia as well! I love her style, she's so talented! Thank goodness she happens to be in Punta Cana the day of our wedding--and free! When is your wedding & what hotel are you getting married at?
  4. Thanks everyone! I appreciate your comments They were so fun to make. I will be sure to post everything else I create--I can't wait to see what you guys come up with!
  5. katy21500 - I'm short too and I always pictured myself wearing heels at my wedding. But in reality, this is the one day & night that I do not want my feet to hurt. I ended up finding these absolutely beautiful Valentino sandals on ebay (pictured below)! They are soo comfortable but still elegant and even though they don't add height, that jewel will look stunning peeping out from under my dress. So maybe you want to consider something like that? You'll be glad that you chose a flat when you can still dance and party pain-free until all hours of the night!
  6. Hi everyone! I just finished my STDs for our wedding at Paradisus Punta Cana, I thought you might like to see them! Now that this step is done, it feels so real! Can't wait to share this exciting experience with all of you! I have included the prices of all of the supplies so you can get an idea of how cost effective it is to DIY! I used off-white card stock paper for the boarding pass, and handmade paper with pressed hearts in it for the pocket (both of which I picked up at DeSerres: http://www.deserres.ca/en-ca/). Card stock paper: $34.95 [100pk] I was able to create 3 out of each piece of paper. Each boarding pass: $0.12 Handmade paper: $2.95 [1pc] I was able to create 6 pockets out of each piece of paper. Each pocket: $0.49 For the envelopes, I used metallic silver (DeSerres) and a gorgeous ivory for the RSVP from Essence du Papier (http://www.essencedupapier.com/). Metallic silver envelope: $28.95 [50pk] Each envelope: $0.60 Ivory RSVP envelope: $0.75 each We ordered the custom stamps from Canada Post (http://www.canadapost.ca/cpo/mc/personal/productsservices/picturepostage/default_en.html) with our picture on it. I'm sorry, I don't know the price for these as my (soon to be) mother in law purchased them for us! We included a small STD magnet as well, that we ordered from Vistaprint (http://www.vistaprint.ca) for FREE! Our wonderful travel agent couriered her business cards to us so that we were able to include them in the STDs. This was so helpful as I didn't have to waste space putting all of her contact information on the boarding passes. And finally, I found silver seals to put on the back of the envelopes from DeSerres. Silver seal: $4.49 [50pk] Each: $0.10 So in total, each boarding pass cost me: $2.06! Note: I also purchased a perforator from DeSerres for $8.79 so that I could make them look even more authentic. By perforating it, our guests can fill out the RSVP section on the back of the boarding passes, tear them off, and send them back to us! I used a template for the boarding passes and pockets that you can download for free at http://www.ayleebits.com/ I hope you guys like them! They were so much fun to make!! xx FRONT: BACK:
  7. Hi everyone! Over the past year I have found so much inspiration from this site, and around the web, that I'm happy to finally show you my finished boarding pass STDs. 8. This is great... I hope! I guess I'll have to wait and see, too bad though. I need to send out my save the dates ASAP and I'm not even close to 150 posts!
  9. These are fabulous!!! Did you work from a template for the boarding pass? If so, can you share??!!
  10. I'm so glad she's working out for you! She is spectacular, I'm so glad I found her.
  11. Andreanna, My FI and I got engaged in February 2010. We were set to book our wedding at Paradisus Punta Cana (thankfully that's where we ended up booked!), I had another TA at the time and she provided me a quote for the time we wanted (April) but for 2011, even though we were planning for an April 2012 wedding. She let us know that the rates may go up, but not by much, so we could have an estimate cost to let our guests know. At our engagement party we let our guests know that we were aiming for April 12-19, 2012 but that it wasn't set in stone, and we told them the approx. cost for one week all inclusive. Since then, we had to get a new TA because the last one just wasn't working out, she didn't reply to emails and didn't give us much detail on what needed to happen in order to book. I booked the wedding date with the WC at our resort directly, so I would contact the resort directly to book your wedding day. Our WC then recommended a fantastic TA to us and so we switched over to her to book the week for flights and rooms (for the exact dates we wanted), and thank goodness she recommended her because she's absolutely fabulous. She emails us back right away and is so detailed in terms of letting us know what needs to happen. We just booked our week through the TA last week for the dates that we wanted at a lower quote than the original TA had provided to us last year! So if I were you, I would: 1) Book the wedding day with the resort as soon as they allow you to, which I'm sure would be any time. 2) Get in touch with a great TA and ask them for a quote for 2011, to give you an idea of what it will cost for you and your guests. The TA will then let you know when you can book the dates you want, but since you'll have the wedding day booked with the resort you won't have to worry about that with your TA. 3) Contact our TA if you'd like, she really is wonderful to work with. Her name is Niyoka McIntosh at Vacation Your Way (www.vacationyourway.ca) and her email address is [email protected]. Best of luck! Let us know how you make out....
  12. Check out my above post! You'll be much happier with Niyoka, she responds SO fast and locked us in with a wonderful rate--much lower than what Linda had quoted us!!
  13. UPDATE! We have switched travel agents as the other one wasn't working out. I just sent my $200 deposit to our new TA and locked in the most incredible rate--much lower than we had expected!! She is based in Toronto and as well and is AMAZING. Anytime I have a question, she emails me back right away.. even at 10pm! I HIGHLY recommend working with her. Her name is Niyoka McIntosh at Vacation Your Way (www.vacationyourway.ca). Her email address is [email protected]. She's the best! Contact me if you have any questions!! Let her know Ashley Howard referred you to her
  14. I just got confirmation!! We're getting married at the Paradisus Punta Cana on April 15, 2012!!! We will be staying there for a week with our guests and then moving over to the Paradisus Palma Real for our honeymoon. Our travel agent got us and our guests the most incredible rate. I couldn't be happier! Now on to planning everything else!
  15. I just got confirmation with our wedding date!!! April 15, 2012 ! I'm soo excited! I spoke with the WC Teresa on the phone the other day and she's AWESOME! I can't wait to plan the wedding with her. And I've received the quote with our fabulous travel agent as well, for an incredible price. It's all happening! We'll be staying at the Paradisus Punta Cana with our guests for the first week and then we're moving over to the Paradisus Palma Real for our honeymoon! Yay!
  16. You should contact my TA! Her name is Linda and she has been doing destination weddings for 30-ish years! She is the manager at Year Round Travel Inc. She's fabulous and found me the most amazing rates. She works out of the Toronto area so she'd be able to help you. Her contact info is [email protected], just let her know that Ashley Howard referred you and she'll hook you up! Happy planning
  17. Check out juliaeskin.com. She does incredible work and her prices are great! I'm going to book her for my 2012 wedding. Good luck

I have read so many of these threads and I thought I remember reading that someone did that before, but maybe they were a small group... You can always have your dinner reception at one of the hotel restaurants without it being privatized. You will have to speak with the resort and ask them if there are specific restaurants that would be able to accommodate a bigger group. I think that would be your biggest concern. Since you will know your wedding date well in advance of your trip, I'm sure you'd be able to make the arrangements to have a few tables reserved for your party and this wouldn't cost extra as they're not privatizing. If your party is bigger than just a few tables, I'm sure they'd be able to accommodate that if it's booked well in advance! You can also always add a little extra flair to your area of the restaurant, even if it's not private, by having someone in your party set up before hand, you know, little things like DIY center pieces or little favors on the plates
