  1. We did the Ipod dock and speakers. It's more than just and Ipod dock, it was connected to a laptop and the DJ/technican running it could play music from his collection (we were short by 1 song), he just may not have everything you want. He can make announcements for you if you want, our technican's english was very good. However, we used our usher to make announcements, he was really excited for it and he is one of the few people who wants to see the wedding DVD to see his performance. It worked out really well. We asked friends for song suggestions and got a ton. Just make sure you have separate labels for everything. We had "wedding party entrance" "father daugher" "Mother son" "dinner music" "cake cutting song" "dancing music" everything went really smoothly. It also comes with lights. The total was $465. This was through JSAV. Also if you are getting the DVD from Palace resorts, the videographer used all the music we used without us requesting it, which was really cool. Kind of a behind the scenes thing. Worked out really well. Let me know if you have any questions.
  2. Since we had 60 guests, our TA ask the Miami coordinator for a complimentary room to get ready in. The room was closer to the wedding location and did not have a hot tub in it so it had more room to get ready in. Overall it was a bigger pain though to drag all the stuff to another room and try to coordinate with the bridesmaid the room since I was not given the key or room number until the morning of the wedding.
  3. We used discountfavors.com they were really cheap and got them us to quickly. They also did not charge a set up since we used their artwork and we have have 2 sides printed with out an extra charge.
  4. There are cans of Tecate and Dos Equis in the rooms. At the bar they give you either mugs (lobby bar or restuarant) or plastic cups (swim up bars or outdoor bars). I don't believe I saw a better bottle all week. My husband and I did Koozies too and everyone loved them.
  5. Our transfers were included with our group rate, however, if you don't use that it is $10 roundtrip per person. If it wasn't included in our, I would recommend just grabbing a taxi. It is not more than $10 each way in a taxi and then you don't have to wait for the transfer van to fill up, you can just get there.
  6. I think $154pp is a good rate. I went during Hurricane season as well but our weather was great and the resort was only at about 30-40% capacity the entire time we were there which was awesome b/c we got so much attention from all the staff and did not have any waits for restaurants or services. As long as you let everyone know now the cost and booking information, it should give them enough time to save up to go. MP only requires they pay the first night down to book and then everything else can be paid upon arrival. Good luck planning!
  7. I have my fingers crossed for you that it will work out. The weather report for my wedding said rain all day and I didn't see one cloud in the sky. Look at it this way, if rain on your wedding day is good luck, you are going to have the best marriage ever.
  8. It's roses or lillies and you can choose the color. I did a mix of roses and lillies.
  9. When I tried to schedule appointments Reyna requested each bridesmaids confirmation number. For one couple I did not have b/c they booked through a membership, I just gave them her name and she was able to look up her confirmation number for me.
  10. You do need a booking confirmation number to book the salon. You will not have a room number until you arrive.
  11. So I submitted my review on Friday but just thought of a couple of things I should have added so here you go: Would do again: -Greet our guests. Most of our guest were arriving at the airport on Wed & Thursday between 11 and 12 so we grab dinner and lunch and sat in the lobby bar waiting for everyone to arrive. Everyone got there within an hour and we got to say hello, let them know what pool to meet us at and make sure their vacation was off to a great start. So many guests thanked us for this and were very appreciative of this small guesture. Would not do again: Be nervous walking down the aisle. I really wasn't too nervous as we pulled up but then suddenly there were 2 photographers on me along with the videographer, I got really nervous. I don't like to be the center of attention. All the pictures of my walk down the aisle with my parents, my face looks like I am ready to go to war. No emotion at all. I definitely regret that. Relax!! It is the best day of your life, even if you trip and fall down the aisle, in the end you will be married to your best friend and that's all that really matters.
  12. If you are looking for a place to go post-wedding . I would highly recommend Le Blanc. It's a palace resort but the top level. Everything about it was so relaxing!! We needed after the wedding. It was amazing. If you are looking for the same price range, I would recommend Sun over ASP. I have been to ASP and it's great but it is almost exactly like MP just a bit smaller and about 1.5 hr drive. Sun Palace is going to be 30 mins away at the most and it will be a little bit different of a scene. There is no beach at ASP at all. Sun Palace will have a beach, no kids and if you want to leave the resort for a change there is soo much in the area. Before ASP I would recommend Playacar palace as it is smaller like Sun but has a beach and is in downtown play del carmen. You can walk to 5th ave Playa which is pretty cool and it probably about 45 mins from MP. Just my opinion. Also FI and I thought we would not want to leave everyone and maybe just stay at MP. In retrospect, so glad we left. All week we were in constant host/hostess mode, we really needed a chance to relax and never would have been able to if we hadn't. It was GREAT to just let us and not worry about a thing!
  13. We just had a friend do annoucements but if you want the technican can do announcement for you as well.

  16. I'm not from Canada either but I do work at a University and often times you can pay international students to do translations for a fairly cheap price. Just an idea.
  17. Be careful when booking with AirTran. Everyone I know who booked through Airtran (including me and groom) had their flights cancelled or changed a few months later and the new flight times available were horrible. We would have either had to stay an extra 2 days past our scheduled stay (and they weren't paying for the stay) or we would have had to leave the morning following the wedding. Everyone I know who booked with them ended up getting refunds and flying with another carrier. However if you are flying out of LAX you might have a better chance than Columbus OH.
  18. There are rooms with "obstructed views" in the Nizuc section that are a bit cheaper as well. I would see if they are able to afford any of those. I had 2 of my bridesmaids do that and then they used their $1500 to upgrade since our group was all staying in the sunrise section. Or maybe for your MH, if she cannot afford it, try to see if you can fit it in your budget to pay for her stay or a few nights so it isn't as much on her. I would have cut all of my extras if it meant paying for one of my sisters as I couldn't have been happy that day without them there.
  19. His english assistant was there to assist so it helped but it takes longer. I did not have an issues with MP regarding an outside photographer. Just told them I needed two day passes and that a friend was taking the photos.
  20. You cannot use your vacation dollars toward ala carte items with the exception being pictures packages and DVD's. Not all of it is available either. We tried to use the basic picture package to take pictures at our cocktail party and it is only good toward weddings. You can use it toward any of the picture packages A, B, C, D, E etc. And then for the DVD including an extra hour, copy or master copy. What is not include are the ala carte picture items such at getting ready pictures, trash the dress, etc. Pretty much just the packages are covered and the DVD. I don't know how long they will keep including this however. I know they just changed prices and the photography at MP so it may just be a promotion for more people to use so they can use in their marketing materials. I know we had to sign a release allowing them to use our DVD for marketing if they want to.
  21. A few more tips from my stay Go during the down season. We were there in October with beautiful weather. The resort was at 12% capacity our first day (a Tuesday) and by the weekend they couldn't have been more than 40% capacity. We never had to wait to get into restaurants and always had servers nearby to wait on us. Getting into the spa wasn't even an issue. If you send your gown to be steamed and you don't want your groom to see it prior to the wedding specify a different room for it to be sent to. They promised it would not go to my room but rather on Saturday morning to our hospitality/dressing room in the Nizuc section. Instead it was dropped off to our room Friday night when my groom was headed back. Everyone loved the Italian place by the golf course and the Caribbean restaurant in the Grand Moon. My favorite was the brick oven pizza in the Sunrise section. 11-4 everyday, Margarita, Mexican, Hawaiian and Pepperoni, all of it was delicious! If a bartender offers you a "paralyzer" decline.
  22. They have set menus but will allow you to substitute 1 items from another menu. We went with Tex-Mex and I do not recommend it. Look for items that do well in chafing pans. The Italian might be best b/c lasagna does well in those pans? The only thing I liked was the fish. The chicken was cold, the steak did not look good and the ribs looked good but I wasn't about to attempt to eat those in my dress. There was also calamari in a marinara that guest said was good but once again I was not going to attempt due to my dress. We had the Superior Hors D'dourves for our cocktail hour and those were great! Everyone loved it. I wish I had eaten more there. Attached below are menus. Maybe other brides can give tips on what buffets they used and if they were good. BUFFETS 2009-2010 (SEP 09).pdf HORS D'OEUVRES 2009-2010 (SEP 09)-2.pdf
  23. I ended up not using the resort's photographer. They raised their prices and I wasn't too pleased with their overall quality. I found a VERY reasonable photographer, Ismael Pacheco whose work had more of the photojournalistic style that I wanted. His all day package including a TTD was less than Moon Palace's cheapest package. I don't think he has as much experience so I am sure the more he gets, his prices may go up. He also does not speak much English so it made it more diffucult for posed shots, but I was fine with that as I prefer candids. We used our vacation dollars toward the DVD of the wedding and the first hour of our reception. We had enough money left over we could have done 1 more hour of the reception so I sort of regret that. Since my parents stayed longer they picked up the DVD for us so we haven't seen it yet but they said it was amazing. So I can't wait to see that!
  24. Just an FYI, I had that list but there is more than what is on there for the promotional dollars. You can get tequila to take home, limo rides to downtown cancun or to the airport as well as getting your picture taken by a Palace Resorts photographers around the resort. A lot of our guests were using their entire amount so they did limo rides back and tequila. However, it's not 100% agave so its not the highest quality. The wine upgrades do not appear to be worth it. They charge $70 for a bottle of woodbridge which is $6.99 at the grocery store.
