  1. I hope you didn't lose deposits in changing your plans, but HORRAY for getting to have your destination wedding after all! Did you have to change your date too? I am getting married at EDR in 10 days so if I can do anything to help, msg me!
  2. My FI hates pearls too, and I didn't even realize I have some on my dress mixed in with the lace and beadwork that angles across the bust area! So I finally cornered him and asked him what he doesn't like about them. Turns out it is the single strand of pearls he doesn't like, said it looks old ladyish and prissy!! Lol! So I bought a bracelet with (fake) diamonds and pearls and dangly diamond earrings to tie it all together. Hope he likes it!!
  3. Wow mine is all very similar to your jewelery! My bracelet is identical to the last photo. I bought all mine at Le Chateau for super cheap!
  4. I'll be getting married there Dec 1 and I will post my review sometime in mid December when I return. When is your wedding? Who is your WC?
  5. You have an amazing outlook on everything and it is so refreshing!! My FI seriously injured his knee 5 days ago and won't be able to walk or dance for our wedding on Dec 1. I had been kind of sad about all we will miss out on, but seeing how everyone affected by this explosion is handling things makes me realize my groom on crutches is a minor snag and I am so happy to still have the luxury of getting married on the beach with all my family and friends around us.
  6. We spent $150 on each BM/GM-we have 6 total-and paid for their wedding day outfits. We know it is a bit more than we would have spent if our wedding was at home, but since they are all spending a fortune on airfaire and the resort, we didn't want to make anyone feel burdened with buying dresses and suits too.
  7. We got our GM golf putters that look like hockey sticks(yes, we are Canadians true and true!!) and for the BM we got them Swarovski earrings.
  8. We picked a high end 5 star resort (El Dorado Royale) because it was important to us that everyone be happy, relaxed and feel like they were well taken care of(a lot of our family and friends are avid travellers!) Ours was $1900/person for one week from Edmonton to Cancun and you know what, everyone came that we really cared about except for one couple. I think it is a once in a lifetime trip for most people and a lot of our guests are excited to be going to a resort they would never book on their own(and the amazing amenities and free 24 hr room service helps!). We gave everyone a years notice and I think that helped too with saving up for the trip. As long as your family and bridal party can afford it, pick YOUR favorite resort!
  9. did you have any problem using US dollars while you were in the Mayan area? Our TA said they are no longer accepted in Mexico!
  10. I bought my BM Swarovski jewelery and ended up having to go to multiple stores to get 3 the same(Independant Jewelers, West Ed Mall and City Centre Mall)! Ilove them and I hope they do too! http://www.swarovski.com/Web_CA/en/1062665/product/Megan_Pierced_Earrings.html
  11. We are having 26 guests and our wedding costs are $340 for the Cocktail hour, $680 for dinner(we are having the BBQ Deluxe) and about $1000 for ceremony(gazebo fabric, runner and hanging flowers) and reception decor(table runners and vase rentals), flowers, music(Ipod stereo). We also are bringing things from home that I didn't include in thoses costs like favors, candle holders and candles, disposable cameras, oot bags, BM dresses, GM outfits....and it goes on and on!!! For photography we are using Cladia photo and getting the basic package for $1800. I think our original budget is still looking good, so we are happy about that I hope this helps you in your budgeting!
  12. Thanks Cassie!! I think I will do the same as you, pearls and some silver as my dress has silver beads and pearls in the lace too. I did buy shoes, they are almost the colour or my dress(light gold) with silver studs, 5 inch heels and have thick straps all over (similar to the gladiator style sandals). Totally not wedding shoes, but that's why I love them!
  13. Does anyone know if men can wear nice jeans to dinners or do they have to wear dress pants? Our guys are all looking for light weight dress pants and I thought we could save them some money and stress. On the website it only says no shorts....
  14. We are getting married at El Dorodo Royale, but I would assume the same prices apply to Azul Sensatori as they are both through Lomas travel. I was quoted $650 for your projector package with laptop and $450 if I bring my own lap top. Wonder why yours is so much more? And I was never offered the tv package. May have to ask about that as $250 is way more in my price range! We were just going to have the slideshow play on a loop on a lap top in the corner, once the dance starts, so guests could go over and watch whenever. But the real deal would be way better.
  15. I got my individual sample advil packets from a friend who works in a family physicians office. Maybe try asking your doctor for some samples?
  16. Thank goodness we have this forum to compare with other brides!! How did I found out about a huge price drop in my dinner price(from $49/plate to $26/plate!) that my WC never spoke of?? From a forum member getting married at my resort 3 months before me! I feel like the WC try and avoid answering requests and telling you prices so you will get fed up and concide to it. It is actually having the opposite affect on me! Now I am bartering for everything!! I find the most frustrating thing is to wait 2, 3 even 4 weeks for a reply from my WC! Or I ask her a few questions in an email and she only answers the first question! I have actually missed out on buying some decor items because I was waiting to hear from my WC if she could offer a better price. Now I am hauling a bunch of decor and other items with me because I am not paying $650 for slideshow equipment or $1300 for gazebo fabric/flowers!!!! It's just crazy how much they charge! My advice for any B2Bs is to start early and keep on your WC, once I told her I was feeling negleted and worried about her long stints between emails, she started to reply to me faster. Oh and check the thread for your resort often to see what prices other brides are getting. Good Luck Girls!
  17. Why not add the colour to your toes so it's less noticeable? Hot pink looks great with a tan too!
  18. Wow!! 21 days til my legal date and one month til the big day!!!!Things are slowly falling into place! lol!! Still need to find jewerly for myself and gifts for my bridesmaids as well as some little things, but if the little DIY things don't get sone, I'm ok with it. I don't know about you girls, but I'm kinda over doing DIY and crafts by now! Just want to wear my dress on a beach and get married already!!!!!!!
  19. After reading the dress code for dinners at the Karisma resorts, my FI was wondering if he can wear jeans as it only says "no shorts or bermudas" but doesn't say if men must wear dress pants. I know last time we went to an AI in Mexico the men all wore nice jeans to dinner and it wasn't a problem. Does anyone know for sure?
  20. Karisma has some good boutique hotels. El Dorado's are their adults only boutique ones. Maroma(on a marina) and Seasides were some of my top picks, very high end and spa like with great reviews about service and food.
  21. Be sure to check if your resort stereo uses cd's or ipods. I know mine(El Dorodo Royale) only has ipod stereos. We asked a close friend to start and stop the playlists for the ceremony and we just faded the songs so it all meshes together. Hopefully it works! My brother did that for his outdoor ceremony in Canada and it worked great!
  22. Just got my final numbers and prices for my wedding. It's in 5 weeks!! Yay! So if anyone needs to know prices not listed on the lomas website, I think I have pretty much priced out everything by now!! We went with the free package by booking the casitas so we just had to add on a few things like flowers, gazebo decor, food and the donkey! Ended up being pretty reasonable since we are bringing our own candle holders/candles and are reusing our ceremony flowers for the reception. I'm glad to see the Hurricannes keep on missing the Mayan!!!
  23. We have had that question come up more than once. Even had guests ask if they can invite someone, like a sibling or friend. Ahh NO! It is sooo awkward, my face turns red and I start tumbling over my excuses!! And I always feel bad, even though they put me on the spot. We decided to tell everone from the beginging that our wedding would be small and that it was due to the resort and our desire to personally know everyone at our wedding. I find it weird when people at weddings don't even know the bride AND groom. We have stuck to that explaination and some accept it while others still ask...all the time! I'm serious!! One of my FI friends always asks him if he can come on the trip and now his gf keeps hinting how much she loves weddings and asks me about my planning every time I see her. Just makes me feel happy that I didn't invite them since they cleary have no manners and just want to use us for the trip!! Good luck and try and let them slide off your back!
