I saw one with a silver starfish in the middle of the flower on Etsy.com. However, it is like $45 plus shipping...not sure if I wanna spend $50 on a hair pin. I also saw a site, proposed by a bride on this forum, that sells silver starfish jewelleries, which I think can be a good pick of a DW jewellery. I also like blue topaz jewellery bacause of its blue color.

My mom could win Project Runway with her skills. So far with fabric, notions and “test dress†it will cost me about $75.00. Here’s the pattern that I’m using as a starting point. Prettypigpig, The dress on the dhgate website are lovely! OH...Lucky you! My mom can't even cook properly (that is why she is married to a chef)...so forget about winning Project Runway! I wish I can have my dress for $75! Speaking of my mom, I really have no clue what she is going to wear, she is about my height (5 ft 2) but a size 10. Yes, the side effect of being a chef's wife, and also what Mexbride said like eat what u want, ur hubby loves the way u are, no need to be on diet as long as u are healthy and feel good. My dad is still the same shape after 31 yrs of marriage, but my mom grew like HSBC Holding's stock price in the past 31 yrs.
  4. THE ROYAL in Playa Del Carmen-Day Passes Prices are insane, so make sure all your guests stay at a Real resort! 9am – 5pm $85 12pm – 5pm $65 5pm – 11pm $85 9am – 11pm $145
  5. I usually check Wholesale - Buy China Wholesale Products from Chinese Wholesalers on DHgate.com It is the Chinese version of Ebay. I only order from seller with a long history of positive reviews. They can also make dress from pics if you have detailed photos of the dress that you like (that is why some dress shops don't allow you to take picture of the dress..unless you bought it already) Most of the sellers are actually the manufacturers of wedding dress, probably other websites order from them too.
  6. I am ordering my dress online too. For the following reasons: 1) The dress that I like cost $6000+. It is very hard to justify the cost of a dress that I will be wear for 1 day. Not to mention if I put $6000 in an investment account for my retirement, I would get return on my investment plus taxe credits. 2) I wanna do a TTD, so again...I don't wanna trash $6000. 3) Re-sell value of a wedding dress is 1/3 of the tag price at best, and the chance of finding another bonely size 0 bride to buy my dress is very low. 4) I tried on several "designer"/ "brand" name dresses, i.e. Pronovias, La Sposa, San Patrick..., and noticed that they are have a "MADE IN CHINA" tag on them. So, $3000 made in China dress vs a $200 made in China dress...probably coming from the same region or same factory..I would pick the $200. 5) When I order dresses from shop here, they order it in standard size, so they would order size 2 or 4, then charge me an arm+a leg ($500+)to adjust the width and length after receiving the dress. If I order it online from Chinese folks, they will make it to my exact measurement! (ok, there is still a slight risk of some fixing, but the cost will be much lower compared to skrink a size 4 into a size 0) 6) All of my suits and skirts for work are tailor made by Thailand folks who took my measurements when they visit here, and I just have to order them online after. The fabrics are top notch quality, instead paying $700 suits and extra cost to adjust them so it looks "fitted" on me, I pay $300. Bottom line, when it is tailor-made to your size, it will fit better than standard sized products.
  7. Oh Congrat! What a lovely story! I guess it was at the Cote Vertu Ikea! LOL I hope u guys were fighting for a parking spot and exchange numbers after!

She always hated that she didn't have a middle name, so a year ago she chose a middle name and legally changed her name to include it. Could she not do that in Quebec? I'm not a huge fan of my fiance's last name, it's long and German, but I am still going to take it just because I'm a traditionalist. I'm a little sad though to be losing my short and simple last name Yes, u can't change ur last name or name..unless it is for extreme situation, like you have weird name like Pierre Ponce (Pierre is the equivalent of Peter in English, but also means stone) and Pierre Ponce means pedi-stone in French..other than that you can't change ur last name or first name. I guess we had too many jokers here before, that they put a stop on the name changing legal thingy.

I did get a room block, so at least we'll have most of the rooms we need set aside for us (we blocked less than we estimated we'd need, in case some people changed their minds in the next 14 months). I'm also nervous that the non-wedding guests at our resort are going to hate us hahaha. It's a small resort, so half the resort will be wedding guests and half will be non-wedding people. All the reviews about our resort talk about it being a peaceful, relaxing vacation. But with our 80 wedding guests, about half of which are young people there to party, it definitely won't be peaceful! Oh well, I guess that'll be their problem and not ours:) I had no idea that father-daughter and mother-son dances were an American tradition! I've never been to a wedding that didn't have them. I wonder if we have other traditions that differ? What about bouquet and garter tosses? I went to a wedding in Peru where the bride held out an opaque glass with ribbons coming out of it, and all the single girls pulled out a ribbon. The girl who had a little ring at the end of her ribbon was the next to be married. I thought that was very cute, and better than girls clobbering each other for a bouquet! WOW..I really like the ribbon thing..that is a good idea! U know I hate the bouquet snatching thing, as there was always a few desperated chicks..and super aggressive to SNATCH the bouquet...then tiny and not very eager chick like me were like next to them and get very scared that I may get injured!

One of my former colleague who has 2 kids with different fathers, told me she enjoys the fact that she divided the kids with her ex, so she doesn't have to see/take care of her kids everyday...I almost faint, and I felt very sorry for her kids. People tends to not get married, just live together...pop out some kids. The strange thing is, Quebec is the first province recognize..common law..as a legal status (back in the 60s, living together before marriage was a taboo), but Quebec is the only province where common laws couples don't have the same legal status as Married couple..when it comes to separation! (i.e. when a woman "divorces", she can get half or get spousal support from ex hubby, but when a woman just broke up with her "common law" bf, she gets nothing!)
  11. I can't change my last name legally after my wedding. Every province in Canada, brides/grooms (yes, there are dudes who changed their lastname to their wives') can add or change their surname, EXCEPT in Quebec. Due to the high divorce rate (u know..french people are very romantic), I guess the government just put a stop to it to save some administrative and paper work expenses.

Usually, the online experience is great as I don't have to talk an incompetent human being that does nothing more than an office plant does. The office plant still does better job, because it inhales CO2, exhale O2. Of course, a lot people feels safer and more ensured when there is a human touch in the process.
  15. Mexbride...Thx for the Bamboo Tat suggestion! It does look very painful!
  16. I already put down a deposit for my wedding to secure my date, gazebo and beach for reception. However, I will book my trip 4-6 months before wedding, I usually book my trips from a website, where I can see the price of the same resort up to 8 month and show up to 8 weeks on the same page...so I can really track the evolution of the prices. My FI was like the last thing for me to do is to "plot the prices on a chart" and start doing a technical analysis..and come up with a forecast and issue a research report.
  17. Day Pass rate for Royal...It is insane..I was speechless...when I saw the rate..so make sure all your guest stay at a Real resort! THE ROYAL in Playa Del Carmen-Day Passes 9am – 5pm $85 12pm – 5pm $65 5pm – 11pm $85 9am – 11pm $145

In addition, you will have much more choices in HK, you will also see the Japanese brands and get clothes that fit "asian" size. Don't forget to visit Sasa (the asian Sephora), you can get a lot of asian/japanese beauty products, if you are a fan of SK II, you can get a better price in HK than in USA.

But I would never ask my brother and his wife to pay for me to go to their wedding! I would ask my parents though:) That's what I think she should do if she really can't afford it. Bonnie - your honeymoon sounds awesome! 3 whole weeks off, I'm so jealous. There are few companies that let people take that much time off all at once, so you're very lucky. I lived in Phuket, Thailand for a year after undergrad (teaching English), so if you go there and need any advice, let me know! Where is everyone else planning to honeymoon? In Mexico? Go somewhere after Mexico? Or do the honeymoon at a later time? My fiance and I are planning a "minimoon" - leaving Mexico two days after our wedding and going to Napa Valley for 4 nights. Since my fiance is taking a week off for the wedding, we couldn't do much more than another 4 days for the honeymoon (will end up making it 2 work weeks total). We'll be flying to Hawaii (where we'll be living then) from Cancun, so we thought a stop in Napa would be a good break in the travel, and it's nice that it's on the way. We're hoping to do our real honeymoon over Christmas 2011/New Years. Because we'll be living in the islands, we're thinking of doing a non-beachy, more adventurous honeymoon. Right now New Zealand is our #1 choice! Fingers crossed we can afford it, haha. Oh! WOW New Zealand is an amazing place! Never been that part of the world yet, but my grannies are living in Perth, and it seems to be that there is another world down there. Sure, do u know any good tattoo artist in Phuket? My FI is somehow into tattoos, and he really wants a 3rd one before he becomes a dad ( don't ask me why...I never get this part...but hey, I guess it is like he never figure why I spent so much time on this forum or flipping wedding magazines).

At least you got a head start on your wedding process. blah...but I don't think I can go to half of the wedding that is oversea I need to same my vacation days. You'll get things put all together. That will be great going to asia for your honeymoon. Yeah! For Asia, you will need at least 2 weeks of vacation days to make it worth it! Tahiti is awesome! Of course HK too, so much good food and cheap clothes! You will love it!
  21. Don't worry ladies, who are watching prices to come out and wait for them to go down... The prices will go down! I goto Mexico once every year (always went with packages), they usually go down when there are 3-5 months left, after that, they usually stay firm and sold out. A few exceptions like last year, when the east side of Canada was having crappy weather the whole summer, the price didn't went down that much, and of course...when there is a "potential" hurricane ...hitting Cancun...no one wants to go, and the price went really low.

Where are u going for your honeymoon? My FI decided to goto China, Hong Kong and Thailand for 3 weeks.

I'm not planning on actually buying a dress just want to try some on to see how they fit. I did try on a dress that a friend of mine was considering selling to me but I had to do it at work and no one was around to critique me so I passed on it. (not to mention i'm 5'8 and she's 5'2) Price for hotel and flight will go down when there are 3-5 months left to sell, if you book now, they know u really want it, so...you have to pay more. LOL! forget it, if you are 5ft8, that 5ft2 dress will look too short on you!

Just another date to look forward to celebrate. And then I thought, I'm not the only one who has to wait for more than a year, so you all would probably benefit too. Just think, plan on a date night on the date of your wedding a year before - a Preversary Date! Just because it sucks to wait so long. What do you all think? LOL! I am doing exactly the same. However, my intention is really to test the ground, menu, location, temperature, weather...and bug the WC face to face!
