Ok..I removed the "oversized"..heehee Sometimes I wish I can have a bigger...errr..top half! ....LOL

It is hard to find a style that would look great on a rake and on an hourglass at the same time.

I was attracted by their Gazebo at the palace too, and willing to go there for my site visit..until their WC were so slow in replying my emails...like 3-4 weeks delay. I am sure they do a fab job (it is a wedding factory there, so WC are too busy to reply emails from anxious brides who are getting married in 12-16 months) as all the bride who went there were super happy and satisfied. However as I am so used to work with real time thing, I will turn crazy, vicious amd aggressive if I have to wait 3 weeks for an email reply.

Not to mention that by the time I'm there, I'll have FINISHED grad school, and more importantly, my thesis! But then I realize how much I still have left to do (both for the wedding and the thesis haha) and then I start wishing for more time. If only there were 36 hours in a day:) But I do have lots to look forward to in the next year, despite all of the stress that it'll be bring. One week from tomorrow, May 28th (yes, the one year pre-anniversary to our wedding), I leave for Malawi! I'll be spending 10 weeks there for a summer internship with WFP. I know that's going to be the experience of a lifetime Then, in the fall, we're going to do a long weekend trip to Mexico for a site visit. Not sure yet if it'll be me and the fiance going or me and my mom. Then, in January, my fiance moves to Hawaii But I get to spend spring break there in March! Then comes thesis defense, graduation, FINALLY the wedding, then a trip to Napa, and a move to Hawaii for me! I get exhausted just thinking about what the next year holds. But in a good way I would love to move to Hawaii, great weather, great reef, great surf! When you are in school, time flies by so fast.

Next Saturday, all four of us are going to go visit a few restaurants to pick out the venue. My mom asked me today if my FMIL is going to want to have an open bar at the shower and I said yes I'm sure she will because I've never been to a party (christening, communion, bridal shower) in their family that wasn't an open bar. I also said that we (FI and I) would really like it to be open bar as well since guests are buying us nice gifts, many will be paying thousands to come to Mexico for the wedding, and I don't want them to gave to buy their own drinks. First off, am I wrong here? I feel pushy since they're paying for it and I'm sort of setting the terms. I called my mom back and said I'm sorry for being pushy, I realize it's an added expense and we would be willlng to contribute or chip in (meaning FI and I) Secondly, what's typical for the bridal showers you all have been to? I think a lot of people just do bottles of wine and a spiked punch. We are thinking of asking the restaurant if we can do margaritas as a signature drink and offering wine as well. Open bar is the way to go! you can limit the offering in order to control your cost! i.e. Only domestic beer, and decent wines like a cheap but good Californian wine...and no champagne or Blue Johnny Walker or Chivas! Do it as a lunch/brunch too will help, as people will not drink like fish that early...ok...if your guests are brokers, traders...then it is a different story.

Michelle, Maybe just wait a bit to see if the price comes down, dunno about in UK, but in Canada, the package deals usually come down when it is 3-5 months away, that is when the wholesalers really want to sell. Given the crude oil is around the same price as last year, but GBP/MXN exchange rate is -18%, so it is very possible that the price will look like 20% more than last year for UK brides. Not to mention, Mexico got the flu thingy last year, so all the resorts went on super SALE mode. I spent around $1100 USD for a 14 days package last September.

Their reasoning is that they have negotiated these contracts with the Mexican photographers they use, and that to allow other Mexican photographers in the resort would be a breach of that contract. I've made arrangements for another photographer they work with, so I've got it all sorted out, and deposit paid well at least u get this all sorted out! then..back to happy wedding stuffs!!!

Barbie, I know..as Canucks we can goto both places DR and Cuba! They are almost the same, one with Americans, and Europeans...the other one..with only european. Now it is even cheaper to goto DR for us than in Cuba, so a lot of people are going..to "stimulate" the DR's economy.

Back to the wedding ideas, and yes I don't work for DR tourist board and my job is to watch the world's geo-politics and economic developments. Of course for Canucks, it is much safer in Canada than in the US ( we don't have our version of AMERICA's MOST WANTED yet), for Americans..it is much safer in US than in these south countries, it is all relative, and if you don't see, then everything is fine. Ok back to my wedding (I know you all must be wondering who is this poor guy who ends up with a psycho pessimistic girl like myself..oh well..ironically, he is an eternally positive guy, super chill and not many worries) OK really back to wedding stuffs...are u girl having a zip up back dress or lace up dress? I am very debating between the two. Zip up is clean and can have nice buttons at the back, but Lace up is fail-proof...I can gain weight from 85 lbs to 95 lbs and still able to fit....but I am really not sure.

I had a look at Ivan's website today and see what you mean, he is fantastic.... :-) I hope they re-think this rule very soon...... xoxo it is not pathetic, they just wanna make $$$ off us! I have to pay $350 to be able to use my photographer. I think the Barcelo is 1 night of stay or $300...it varies from hotel to hotel...

A guy I knew was murdered in my college town while I was in college, but that doesn't stop me from going there. As for Haiti, that really has no impact on DR. There are murders going on all along the border of the US and Mexico, yet we still travel to both countries! I agree with you totally, but my FI is 110% sure that he won't go there. His ex gf was born in Belgium, and somehow moved to DR with her mom, then one day she came home found her mom got robbed and stabbed. Apparently even DR is much better than Haiti (where even the Cubans find them, the haitians, poor and salvage), DR is still very poor. Of course, Canadians do got robbed and killed in Mexico every year (I have to say only those who take their retirement there...pretend to be rich and live in a very poor country). In relatively wealthy countries like US, UK and Canada, people got killed for sick/complicated reasons...it is very rare to get robbed and killed (usually robbed only). My sister is heading to Punta Cana this June, my feeling is ...DR is almost like Cuba, very poor, decent food with very nice beaches, but with Americans...heehee

If I (and all of my BMs) hadn't already been there twice, and if it had good diving (my fiance's one request), then I absolutely would've chosen it for my wedding!!! Not to sway you away from Mexico, as that's what I chose, but from what I've seen about Mexico beaches online, they just don't compare to the ones in Punta Cana:) However, on the Mexico side... the activities there were another huge draw for us! We have been wanting to go to Chitchen Itza (we've been to 3 of the 7 wonders of the world together, and are aiming to get to all of them:), and we love that our guests have plenty of activity options other than beach and water activities. The chance to go to ruins and the cenotes was a very unique one. Also flights to Mexico are super cheap from the US! I have to agree...The reef right off Cozumel is insane! Beach at Cozumel and Cayo Coco, Cuba are so far the nicest ones I've seen. Of course, I never been to Punta Cana, and because my FI's first gf's mother was murdered in Punta Cana, DR ...plus it is right next to Haiti, I guess I won't go there.

I think it has to do with number of posts that u posted on the forum, for more than 125 posts, u will become a junior member, and u can download and view the attachments. Of course, you can pay to get the membership, I think. As for the location, I picked Riviera Maya right from the beginning as Jamaica is more expensive with less beautiful beaches, Punta Cana which is next to Haiti.

Mexbride...your dress is simple and elegant! Nicola, I am sorry to hear that! I will send you and your FI positive vibes for the next 30 days! I've been thru that (uncertainty and out of my control situation) in Oct-Nov 2008, when 1/2 of my office floor went empty in 2 months, and some people didn't even say a proper goodbye.
