  1. hahaha Ginger..we are on the same boat! I am just a perfectionist, I know my FI would just say WOW..even he isn't that WOW about my dress, but I want myself be WOW and others find me WOW. After all, I think I lost 40 lbs due to stress during my pre-med year, and somehow I just keep my size 00p, I used to be a size 0, and retailers just keep downgrade their sizes to make us feel better..I think soon I will shop in kids' section. LOL OK unlike you, who work hard everyday and watch what u eat, I eat whatever I like to eat in small portions and I don't like to move my bum bum at all, I kept my soon to be sub-zero size, because I want to look good in my suits, and my FI to find me cute. Good techniques on...picturing your dream dress! btw, your dresses are super nice!
  2. Cookie.. If you already tried on dresses, then just tweak it in the style that you like. Well...as for Randy, strange thing is my FI (when he was forced to watch TLC with me), he was like yes yes..this gay dude is so right! And then when the chick didn't pick Randy's picks or just got the one she felt herself nice in it....my FI would say like smth like arh...MAUVAIS!!! By looking at that guy's suits, I could tell they are perfectly coordinated and well made, I wear custom made suits too, so I trust Randy's tastes. I apologize that I was too raw/ direct. I agree with you, I don't like the bottom part of that dress too, but the bodice is nice. If you like a big dress, my friend in San Francisco bought an Enzoani dress, big with a cathedral train, with 100% silk, so it is big, but very light and people could hug her without any problem. I think the name is Belgrade, the front is nice, the back is gorgeous for a church wedding. I live in Montreal, and been to Calgary a few times for tradeshows (very interesting folks, one even weared a plastic sheep mask because he didn't want to be recognized ...I was freaked out), since the oil reached $80, oil sands made Alberta a RICH province! I hope our natural gas will bring the same to us, so I don't need to pay that much taxes. mouhahaha As for the tears part...hmm..it started like this...one time (after 3 drinks at 5a7, aka happy hour), a male trader explained his tears to me, it was just the emotion of the moment that he realizes that he found his other half and will spend the rest of his life with...and grow old together made him cried. Of course I was like oh..I thought you found ur wife ...ah...so pretty in her dress! he was like.."she looked better than other days, her dress was ok, as long as she didn't spend a fortune on it, I am fine". After this trader, there was also another one who didn't cry and was happy with his wedding day but also find the dress not...err...WOW ( I think that was the one who came up with the term of F-Queen Vic Style...not sure). Of course, they didn't want to get killed or suspended for "action" activities, so they would just say they were very HAPPY that day, which it is 100% true and honest without any faking involved, except just the dress wasn't the WOW factor at all. Maybe they just don't care about our dress that much?!?! Working in the investment industry, I am surrounded by males, F words and drinks. My former boss (+ colleagues) used to laugh at every dude's wedding whenever there is a fat dress/BM/bride/MIL ( or any of the combination of the 4 mentioned). Girls!!! Men are as bad as us when it comes to b*tching, nagging and laughing behind others' back! hahaha my parents got me when they were very young, so we are more like siblings ( we used to club together). From time to time, my dad would tell me (after 4-5 beers) ...smth like he doesn't like my mom's outfits or she is fat.
  3. Nicola, Men, most of them, are very rational and logical beings (except when it comes to their male pals, sports, music...and hobbies). As long as you can come up with good and logical reasons, they will say yes. For dancing, the best reason is 1) do smth together! and if we both like it, we can do it for a long time or until one of us getting too old to walk.
  4. the TLC site is a great source of info on how to pick a dress...click on the SAY YES to the DRESS, Randy always gives great advices!
  5. Nah...my dog and cats get super nervous and stress out when they aren't home, boarding isn't an option. Therefore I would just hire someone to pet sit them, and feed my fishes. I have 1 chow chow, 1 highland lynx, 1 scottish fold, and 2 tanks of fishes (pleco, guppies, clown loaches, snails and bala sharks), I am just an animal lover.
  6. Cookie, hmmm...I am a guys' chick, I don't have that many girls within my social circle. I would have to say...guys don't like puffy dresses in general. . they refer the style as...the phucking Queen Victoria dress...again I am a Canuck, so maybe other men in other countries like different things (there must be a market if that dress is in a store). Most of the guys would just pretend to be...WOW when they saw their wife in...Queen Vic style..and thinks..thx god this is just a 1 day thing. Just ask my FI, an european, he was just like NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO~~~. From what I heard from guys about wedding dress: 1) no phucking Queen Vic style (even most of us love the big puffy ones) 2) smth that shows the curve = yes 3) sexy =yes 4) puffy = no 5) grandmom style with sleeves=no 6) spare tires popping out = no 7) midget looking= no too much spilling out =no 9) too expensive = no...they won't value a Vera Wang as much as we do 10) Why is my wife wearing this hideous dress? w.t.f.m.f that was she was thinking? it must been her mom's choice! Evil MIL!
  7. Jess, Your pics only look very very HUGE in older versions of IE. My employer didn't upgrade the internet browser for security reasons. At home, I have a more recent version of IE, and the pics are in perfect size! My FI thought I was browsing at the VS site while I was looking at your pics! lol
  8. O là là ...I am very tempted to get a boudoir session too! A Royal PDC bride just got one, and she posted her pics on the Royal PDC thread, ah....so nice and sexy.
  9. Primavera, I did the math..basically I will get taxed at 50+% at most of the developped countries. I think I got the 70% in some studies, where they count everything..from income taxes, land taxes to sales taxes..and other misc taxes. Like in Canada, we have income taxes at 50% that chop income in half, then 13% of sales tax when we buy stuffs with our net income, so technically, the total tax rate is over 50%. The $250+ billion Norway Oil Fund was created to invest the money outside of Norway, so that the country can stay sober, not become lazy, flush with hot money and super inflated price, and become very vulnerable to oil price price decrease and economic downturn. Look at Dubai, look at Alberta...then I think Norway is doing the right thing. I love Spain too, I kept telling my FI that if Euro is getting bust (the euro debt saga is far from over, they are pretty much still in the woods...hahaha..they would need more cuts in spending and raise taxes), we will buy a condo in Spain.
  10. My FI is a half-Spaniard..he would love to live in Spain. I love siestas...and shoes and beach...ah~~ We both work in the finance industry, so I don't think there are demand for our talents in Banco Santander...in the next 3-5 yrs. heehee...
  11. WOW ..HOLY MOLY..Jess...you look like a phuckking hot Victoria Secret Angel!! Like others said, $650 is nothing if I can look like you in pics! I am very very tempted to do that, but I have the opposite problem. I am a 90lb with a surfboard chest!
  12. Jenn and Nan, I trained my FI from the early stage of our relationship to say YES all the time! hahaha... Seriously, he likes the idea because we can do things together. I did ballet for years, so I am still pretty good with the beats and relatively flexible. My FI is very rigid...so it will be fun..hahaha. I guess the trick is to pick a dance that is suitable for both. My friend also forced her hubby to goto dance class for their wedding, they picked Argentian Tango, in which the guy just needs stand still like a pole and walk/turn from time to time, and the chick does the rest of the moves.
  13. Primavera, Sweden is taxing at 70%+, so at that rate, I would expect my gouvernment takes good care of me! Me and the Norway Oil Fund folks shared the same approach in investing. Norway has 10% surplus, where in US, the poor guy, Obama is running a 10%+ of GDP deficit every year (structurally 8%/per year). So I would laugh at the US folks instead of the Norway ones! hahaha btw..I love IKEA! heehee
  14. hahaha...welcome back Lindobride! I can't wait to start my classes too!
  15. Jenn, I forgot to mention..the long wait in ER, the high taxes and the famous harsh winter ...heehee!
  16. m00sie, Monica Bridal's beading skill is very very good. I also told them about the too big and too long problems, so hopefully, your dress will come in true size!
  17. Cjb, If you watch Michael Moore's documentary, you would realize Canucks are still very naive and gentle people (some of them still leave their doors unlock all the time!), I guess it has to do with our ultra socialistic system. I guess in Sweden too, people are not extremely rich, but the quality of life is good. On the French Canucks side, we have 1 yr of paid mat leave, almost free medicare for everyone, $7/day daycare, university tuition that cost $5000 per year. It is funny, in the mid 90s, US people used to come to Canada and shop! However, with the way the US economy is going, I think you will see more bad drivers on your side!...LOL The reason we don't drive properly is in some provinces, people can't turn right when the light is RED (now you know why some cars wouldn't turn right, when they should turn right!). Plus, our population including the polar bears...is only 1/10 of the US population with approx. same land size, so of course there isn't that much traffic. We have a TV show here called the WORST driver, so I guess you are totally right on our driving skill!
  18. Cjb, I know! We have a pretty different system overall. We are more socialist (Obama is different!), and more diverse (ah oui, we have French Canucks!), overall not very patriotic (except when it comes to hockey) and relatively boring.
  19. Nan, I am a Canuck from the east coast, who like a lot of the Canucks, spend a lot of time laughing at our southern neighbor. I guess those TV reality shows don't help much...heehee Luckily, I work with the most educated portion of the US population everyday, so I can have a balanced view or at least they give me some hopes. The 4th of July wasn't my first choice, but Jan-Feb-March are the RRSP/ Year end reporting months, April-May, kids have school and those are taxation months. June is the CFA month (my FI is doing his CFA), Aug-Sept-Oct-Nov are the hurricane months. So July seems to be the ideal month. My FI and I both have friends who ended up in the US for various reasons, so we picked the 4th of July, because everyone can have that w-e off (and it is an auspicious day according to the Chinese calendar). Officially, I will sign the papers on the Feb 14, 2011.
  20. Nicola, Thx, but I don't like to work with people anymore, so tour guide isn't for me. The Coba one is the only one that they still allow people to climb, and it is taller than the Chicken Pizza one. The thing is these pyramids are very steep (Mayans were pretty fit in the ancient time), so it is difficult to come down after the climb. My guess is some dumbos got injured, and that is why they no longer allow people to climb on the pyramid. To make to clear on what I mean by a clean cenote to swim in, and the one that the Mayans used to dump drunk people in to feed ther gods.. The first pic is the Mayan Sacrifice cenote, they make people drunk, hit them hard in the head to knock them out (all the skeleton they found in that cenote had head fractures)...and then..dump them into the cenote...no struggle and painless death as people would just grooogrooo into the water! lol The second pic is a clean and fresh cenote with fishes in a rainy day.
  21. oh wow...Ginger, you don't have to worry, Mexico is not like Cuba where Americans can't go (even..UN just voted today to end the embargo), therefore you will look very hot even with a bit of seasonal hohoho fat on you. My mom's confidence went up 100% after our mom-daugther trip (she called it sisters trip) in Playa Del Carmen. I am thinking of restart my hot yoga routine after the new year (due to the lack of motivation, I postpone it til new year...heehee) to tone up a bit...and hire a dancing instructor...so I can have a perfect first dance with my FI. As for the taffeta, people can add extra $$$ to make their dress with silk taffeta, it is very light, soft fabric with a subtle shine. However, it isn't suitable for TTD. I did my TTD style engagement pics in a runway silk chiffon Prada dress, and errr...I totally wrote off the dress after the session.
  22. m00sie, my dress has satin, you can check the pics on my photobucket account. Great quality. not sure about the taffeta.
