oh Mocha, I am sorry to hear that. I guess once you alter it, it will look great. Considering the price they charge, I think it still comes cheaper than buying one in Canada..even after alternations. I would get the alter done here, so you can communicate with your seamtress instead of sending the dress through another round of amazing race. It is strange, because all 3 dresses I ordered are with zipper, and they fit to the true size. However, I have to admit that me and my BMs (a.k.a sisters) are all very skinny petites, and we got our measurements taken by a professional tailor. However, they mixed up with the colors (one ordered pink and the other ordered turquoise), and since the dresses are 100% true size with no room for error or weight gain, my sisters can't just switch their dresses because one is 1.5 inches fatter at every spot and 3 inches taller), so Monica Bridal offered me a discount on my next purchase. My sisters will wear their wrong color dresses for xmas party. You can always ask them to see what they can do for your dress and your BM dress, but I probably won't sleep well at night if I ask 50% off (it is like trying to get a refund at a Dollar Store), because your dress definately looks like a good quality dress and worths more than $70. Again, it is just my view/ moral standards and obviously not shared by everyone.

Ok I received my bff's wedding dress today. It was inspired by my dress, and I added a cape and a sash (because my bff wants it in ivory, with a pink sash and more...flowy) She is currently in Beijing, so she can't try it on yet. She is a size 12/14, with a 36 inches waist, so nothing in the bridal shop in Montreal would fit her perfectly. Looking from the dress...I think the size is ok. However, I will have to wait til her return to see if we need some alternations. These are the pics ...with the hanger...

what time is ur wedding? I went to Mexico in end of June this year for a site visit, and reschedule my ceremony from 4pm to 5pm, because it was still too hot at 4pm. I also saw a wedding at 2pm on the beach, omg..the guests were like lobsters on BBQ. I am designing my invites (passport style), hopefully I can send them out around xmas. I just bought my OOT bags and ordered my reception dress yesterday, so I am ok on track. The OOT bags are in turquoise with a blue ribbon, and no poka dots. The picture shows one with the dots. here is the reception dress

Monique, My little sister went to Beijing University for a chinese summer course, because my parents think that Mandarin will be the most important second language in 10 yrs. She bought a XL size shirt for my FI as souvenir (my FI is a M size here). Therefore, I think the sizing in Asia is like this: One size fits ALL = US size 00-4 Small= US size 00-2 Medium= US size 2-4 Large = US size 4-6 X Large = US size 6-8 (when I was a kid, there was only S-M-L, now they add XL to accomodate those rich and fat people)

Mocha, Thx! I hope you will be happy with your dress just like I do with mine. Sometimes, I find myself a bit biased too. However, it is just not fair that a bridal shop owner just came in and rant. On the other hand, if she was to offer us nice discounts on the originals, then it is another story..hahaha I am still working on the invites, trying to save some money. After all, $7-$10 per invite is a bit too much, as people would just put it in a recycle bin after. There will be so much of folding and trimming...but it is fun. At least, you are efficient with your planning when you know your time is limited. I just procrastinate from time to time...heehee.

Mocha, You are getting married in April! I am like 3 months after you. Still working on my DIY invites. I am just very nosy in general, not knowledgeable, just very very curious. I agree some dressmakers don't have a good Quality control system, some overpromised and under-delivered, bridal shop offers more personal services like fittings + alter at a higher cost and Indians have super good beading skills if someone wants a big dress with tons of beadings. Overall, I think if we can cut the middleman, if we know what we want and can communicate clearly. Of course, there are disappointments from time to time due to: 1) brides ordered a dress based on a pic or on her own imagination without trying on similar style and color before ordering it. Unless the bride is size 0, 6 ft tall, she won't look like the pic. 2) brides who took measurements by themselves. 3) brides picked a super complexe style designer dress 4) brides who tried on the original and expect 110% exact with the replica 5) Poor quality control/craftmenship 6) Ok this one may sound a bit offensive, but brides who are above size 14. China is still a developping country, obesity is still very rare. Thus, for most of the chinese dressmakers, they have hard time to get the proportion right, because they never seen anyone in 14+ sizes.

tsk tsk...Marinemeuwec or Meghan.. When I read this, as an analyst who meets different people everyday, somehow I could smell that you are in the wedding fashion biz (just like I could smell the subprime collapse in US three years ago). http://www.facebook.com/marinemeuwec#!/marinemeuwec?v=info http://www.linkedin.com/pub/meghan-marine/4/149/5a4 1) When you are a vendor or insider, you should declare that you are one. 2) You can be very biased, because you own a bridal dress shop. 3) It is a bit unfair to blast the quality, since most of the dresses in your shop are made in China, but of course you can get a fat margin on them, and the dressmakers in China can't.

Nan, Like in Canada, a lot of people in Spain work "under" the table. On the beach at Barcelona, all those masseuses and good looking couples selling Mojitoes for 10 euros per pop are probably part of the 20% unemployed too. The real figure is much less than 20%. Plus, it was way way higher than 20% in the 90s. It is true that the real estate sector is still crashing, and they still have a few billions of debt need to rollover in the next 3 years. Therefore, Banco Santander will not hire me even I want to move there. However, compared to the PIG countries (Portugual, Ireland and Greece), Spain is very ok.

Mocha, hahahaha...me too, I keep looking and the idea of ordering more and more dresses is very tempting. It is an easy style, I would go back to Monica Bridal because beading seems to be their forté. Halldora, the link is http://www.dhgate.com/wholesale/store/ff80808124d88a430124e15498a72475_profile.html You would need an dhgate (like a chinese ebay) account in order to chat with the rep.
