  1. Oh Oh..I am sorry. Jenni, I saw your dress in 2009, in a local shop when I was dress shopping with my friend. I saw it on a sample sale rack, I guess it must be a discontinued dress from their 2007 collection.
  2. Jenni, I don't understand your question. If you meant how long did I took to find my dress, well, after a round of dress shopping, I was convinced I need to have my dress custom made. I didn't like the styles of the dresses that I found in the local shops (so 1980s), the samples were all size 10, so too big to try on. However, I did know what looks good on me, and what makes me look like a dead or depressed jellyfish, a swiffer duster, a What Not to Wear candidate, a 1980 bride..etc. Madalina, For a Maggie with that much details on the bodice, I would invest my money with someone with better beadings and embro-skills. Ask the dressmaker to send u sample pics of their previous work before order ur dress.
  3. LadySapphire, I don't think adding long sleeves can cause any problem, but I think you need to show the dressmaker pics of the sleeves you want to avoid any confusion. Mocha, Everyone needs to make a profit! Especially in the bridal biz, they just prey on the brides' psychology.
  4. Jenni77, I saw your dress in real life in a local bridal shop, it looks my grannie's dress (no offense, but grannie's wedding dress is very similar, except for the low cut at the front). The lace is a very delicate one, and pretty unique. I am sure you will be disappointed if u want the same lace. Just try to find a sample or a second hand dress.
  5. Mexbride, If someone can feel safe when planes were crashing into their city for no reason, then I am sure the drug cartels are nothing to them. I think Obama went to Afganistan without getting into any danger, and seriously I don't think any mexican drug lord would recognize Mr. Bloomberg in Playa Del Carmen. The thing is there are so many ignorant people around us, sometimes we just have to let them be, and move on. My dad is not coming to my wedding because of the old traditional chinese way of thinking, and there is nothing I can do about it. Just move on, and I am sure you will have a beautiful wedding.
  6. Mexbride, So far I don't have guests who ask me that question yet! But I do watch American Most Wanted, and geez..I have no problem going to USA. If I count it properly, I think the number of crimes in USA is actually higher than in Mexico. Not to mention, Mexico is not a terrorist target. Ask your guest if they think NYC is safe?! Diahr, LOL! I warned you that the Royal is a popular resort! I told my guest to RSVP like 4 months in advance!
  7. April-May-June-July are very popular months. Like I said there is another Real resort in the town, if not there are 3 Real Resorts in Cancun, 60 min of car ride. There are also other resorts in the same area, it is just extra cost, since they charge more for non-Real resort guests.
  8. Diahr, I knew because I read it on this thread, and it happened to a May2010 Royal bride. The hotels tend to be SOLD OUT 2-3 months in advanced. They always "reserve" a bloc of rooms for their timeshare members, my guess is they always have a few room empty (just in case for timeshare people). You can contact your WC, and see what rate she can offer you and really check if the hotel are in fact selling out. There are another Real Resort in PDC, less nice, not on the beach, but cheaper and close to the Royal too. I guess if there are empty rooms at the Gran Porto and Royal when they check in, your guests can request an upgrade.
  9. yeap, Feb 3 is the chinese new year. Workers will take off for 7-10 days, go back to their village and spend some time with their family.
  10. Gracimurano, LOL, it is so true! I don't see other opportunities to wear a long dress with a tail other than my own wedding! Beachy, I prefer long dress for the ceremony and pictures (it is just nicer in the pics, more romantic..), you can always change to a shorter one for the reception and dancing. Brandy, Your dress is beautiful. Pretty close to the original! Ok the flowers are different, and the original is made with silk chiffon with a price tag of $800-$1000. So this is a perfect example of ordering a dress from China. It can't be 100% exact replica, but hey..it is a $700 difference, probably none of your guests would pay attention to the differences in the details...
  11. Mocha, hmmm....u can test it on one small section with starch to see. I think the fabric is too soft to make it POP out.
  12. Imara and M00sie, Monica Bridal does make dress in silk, at $400+ range. Silk is expensive, because it is a natural protein material that takes a lot of work to harvest. To give u an idea, silk is made with moth's coccoons. In China, moth worms only eat a certain type of plants ( I am not sure if Chinese moth babies have a different diet than others), so they make them grow until they turn into coccoons and then put the coccoons into boiling hot water to extract the silk (errr..I guess the worm/moth is cook). Imagine the size of a chinese moth, and how many coccoons it is required to make a satin dress. Less, Congratz! Like I said before, buying a dress at a local bridal shop gives the bride some quality assurances and peace of mind, so don't feel bad/upset. Please share the pics with us.
  13. Ok ...I need to put on my warning msg..as usually...as I will never know what type of abnormal reply I will get WARNING: Some readers may find the following msg offensive and disturbing, Readers' discretion is advised. Ok, first of all, this thread is not Kijiji, as I mentioned before there is a thread on this forum for brides to sell their stuffs. We are smart brides, we know where to look on the forum in case we want to buy a second hand dress. Second, there is smth call..DUE DILIGENCE. Like before u buy a house, you would check it inside out. Before you go into a restaurant, you would check the menu. and..as a shoe seller, I think u would understand..before you buy a pair of shoes, u would try them on or at least check them out. Therefore before u put a comment, u should read a bit on the thread. This is a thread for budget conscious brides, dresses are below $400 in general. Third, trust me, I look at myself constantly, and I would never walk out of my house with my face 3 tones paler than my neck with a shiny forehead. Forth, another advice...if u are thinking of getting a $10K dress, planning to lower the cost to 3K by resell it at $7K after, JUST buy a $3K dress. If u can find a close relative ...willing to be the sacrifice and buy the dress for u, ..then too bad to be ur relative and good for u and resell it at $7K and keep the money. Fifth, no wonder our central bank is putting all sort of rules to prevent people to refinance and to become over leveraged! Better think about my short book tonight...hmm...
  14. De rien BruxellesBride..Ce n'etait pas important, c'etait plutot que je n'avais rien a faire! Bonne Chance!
  15. Imara, WORDS! Actually, my friend who didn't invest in photog and videographer, bought an Enzoani for $3000 (paid by her MIL), and she sold it for $1000 right after her wedding!..she thought it was great as she pocketed $1K! until...she saw her pics 6 months after, and unfortunately she had no dress to reshoot her pics. So, maybe keep our dress until we see our pics..will be also a good idea.
  16. hahaha Karen, You are the only who noticed it so far! As matter of fact, Canadians's household debt/ disposable income level is actually higher than the US folks! Oh yes, currently..Canadian are even worst than US folks. Except, our housing market hasn't crash yet, so everyone can still squeeze juice out of their home equity! Does Refinance at a lower rate or get a second mortgage sounds familiar? So yes, I can also turn it into Canadian version, and it would still apply! I thought this forum is more USA centric..so I tend to use US as an example, easy to understand, everyone knows what happened. Of course, I can also turn it into UK version, and it would be the same thing. I also have the same stats for Eurozone. Bottom line, excessive consumption would need to painful consequences. I am not saying we should save every penny that we earn, but I mean we should have a better capital allocation strategy. i.e. SPURGE... Spurge on wedding bands and E-ring. ok at least gold is appreciating, and resell at fair value is possible Plus we can wear them everyday, so even divide by the # of years of usage, it turns out less than $1K per year. Invest in getting a nice photographer+ videographer, after all...besides our brains (which will get old), photos+video will be there to tell our kids and grand kids about our stories. Don't be cheap on makeup artist, again, we don't wanna look like 1980s in our pics! SAVE.... Save on wedding dress, ok our FIs don't really care (our men love us, not our dress) and can't tell the difference between a Vera Wang and a Maggie Sottero! It is sad, but they just classify them as big white dress. The camera too, it can't tell the difference between silk and polyester. For 1 day or those who has an AHR, for 2 days, it is very hard to justify the cost of a dress at regular price. Fancy flowers centrepieces. Again I know..I know..we all wanna nice flowers on the tables..but again..CAN WE remember what were the centrepiece of the last 5 weddings that we attendeded?..hmm..think hard...guests don't care, in fact one time...I had to remove the centerpiece, because it was way too big, and it was blocking the communication/conversation.
  17. maybe u need to come up/ design ur dress like me (i,e put together all the things that u like into 1 dress)...and then...explain it to the dressmaker.
  18. Missgomes, Just go try on dresses! Sometimes, u may find nice ones as a sample dress or from Davids.
  19. hahahaha...NOT AN INSULT...but I ...MEAN...you know youself better than anyone else! ah..another T-shirt msg idea:" NOT AN INSULT..BUT I MEAN..." pretty cool ...pretty cool
  20. Ginger, I worked on the trading desk..oh yes..I am a vampire squid (dunno why americans came up with this term after 2008...weird!)! Trust me..F words, fingers..O M F words...A words...B words are nothing! I ate them like ABC in my Campell soup without a burp. Actually, I find myself pretty considerated on this forum (yeap yeap I mean it), you can imagine me in real life. mouhahaha...oh well, my FI said behind every successful man, there is a dumb chick. Behind every b**ch, there is a nice and easy going guy like him. Like I said before...dresses are like men, there are always better one out there, but u have to settle down and pick one! Beauty of a $350 or less dress is...we can have more than one! LOL
  21. Davids Bridal is very affordable! They are coming out with Vera Wang dresses for less than $1500!Except we don't have it in Montreal, I think they are coming to Toronto soon.
