  1. Oh man! I'm not a stickler for etiquette either but this would annoy me too! You don't have to get them a gift right away since you will be busy finishing plans with your wedding and traveling. I would wait until you get home form your wedding, see if they got you a gift, and proceed from there. Even if they don't send you a gift I would still send them one just because I think two wrongs don't make a right. My advice is to pick something small from their registry and send them a nice card. No point fighting it, esp. if your FI thinks you should get them a gift. Good luck!!
  2. Congrats Mary!! I agree, this site is sooo helpful. I hope you connect with the other brides getting married in Jamaica. Don't forget to post a review and pics when you get back. Good luck and enjoy the rest of your planning!
  3. I'm good for Saturday or Sunday...lunch sounds good too!
  4. Wow! So many choices...thanks for doing the leg work JerseyKitten. I'm down for anywhere that has food, drinks, and isn't too loud so we can all talk and be heard.
  5. I've been to the Molly Pitcher Inn many times and love it! Red Bank is such an adorable town with a great shopping area. I know people who have gotten married there and loved it. Food is always good and it's a hotel which gives your guests the option of staying over and maybe having a breakfast with them the next day. Good luck!

He works in IT, so if anyone hears of anything or knows anyone, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let me know?! I heard him tell his boss that he doesn't know how we're going to be able to afford this wedding, and it made my heart sink. He's not the type of person to just sit around until something comes up, so I know he'll get a job doing anything at all just to make sure we're okay financially, but I really did NOT expect this at all. Oh no!! That sucks! I've been in and out of work for the last yr and planning the wedding has not been fun money wise. Plus we're building a house. We are on a tight budget! It's never good timing...Good luck to you and your FI with his job search. Woodbridge is good with me too, I'm not too familiar with the area does anyone know of any good places to meet up??
  7. Are there any other suggestions?? I'm from central nj too and willing to travel if it makes things easier for everyone.
  8. Hi Magdalena. Welcome and congrats on your engagement! This site has sooo much information. I'm sure you'll find it helpful with your planning. Like the other members said, make sure you check out the Jamaica section and use the search function (it's great). Good luck and enjoy your planning!
  9. Congrats and welcome back! Thanks for the review and pics. They are great and you looked beautiful!! I'm really sorry to hear about your IPOD, that was soooo shady! Thanks again for sharing, have a great time in Jamaica!

We have a list of over 200, so I was assuming 50%, but maybe not even! hmmm...I would love to choose the PPR, but I am scared of how expensive it will be for my guests (I just looked for this coming Aug. 2010 and it is more than 1,500/pp---as opposed to PPC and Dreams which are about 1,100/pp) I was hoping to find a TA and work with him/her on those details of package pricing. Also, the PPC offers a reception (to rent out a restaurant) with up to 70 guests and open bar for about 5,000 (which I believe is affordable). Do you know if PPR has that option as well? Yea, we are inviting children (my FH has 8 nieces and nephews and many other children in the family so we feel obligated). Tracy—Did you choose a package for PPR? I was thinking of just doing the fantasy and then the reception and other things a-la-cart. What do you think? So sorry for my delayed response! We invited around 150 guests and are expecting about 35. The PPR is expensive and airfare has been ridiculous. So many people had expectations to go but life got in the way for many of them (job/money issues and babies!). The PPR does have the option to rent out a restaurant, I believe it's the Gabi Beach Club in the Reserve section. The price is about $9500 which is out of our budget. We were originally going with the Aqua package but now we're going with the Wish. We're staying in Royal Service for 7 nights so it's "free" and it saves us a good amount of money doing the cocktail hour and reception a la carte. I haven't been to the PPR in 4 yrs...they have the reserve now and it's supposed to be more kid friendly. I've heard great things about PPC...check out the thread and read the reviews. Hope this helps!

    New MOH!

Welcome! I think it's awesome that you joined and are so helpful to your sister. This site has so much information and can become very addicting. Good luck with the planning, your sister is very lucky!
  12. I rechecked the postings and saw a few of the girls are up in north jersey...are you ladies okay with meeting down at the shore?? I'm flexible...
  13. Congrats and welcome to the forum! There is a beautiful Catholic Church near the Punta Cana resorts. I'm not sure of the name but I've seen pics from my WC. Definitely contact a TA or search on the forum. I'm sure there has been at least one past bride who has been married at this church. Good luck and enjoy your planning!
  14. nsbride- I'm super jealous! I wish his outfit was finalized already so we can move on to the GM shirts. cathyandchin- Thanks for the Macys recommendation. It's next on my list for linen pants. I found the guayabera shirts on the website Beach Wedding Attire & Dresses, Linen Wedding Pants, Shirts, Guayabera, Hawaiian, Havana, and Linen Suits I'm pretty sure I found the recommendation from the forum. This is the shirt my FI wants: Men's Beach Wedding Shirts Welcome Debbie! I hope your planning is going well. I made my dress fitting appoint for May 5th but I still haven't my shoes. I've been going crazy and I'm ordering a few pairs from online because I have not seen anything I like in the stores. I hope to order my OOT bags asap. The days are ticking away!!

How's the planning going so far? June 4th is my bachelorette party and the next day i have my cousin's bridal shower...How is the 12th for everyone? I'm up for a Friday meet up too... Welcome to the newest Jersey girls!!
  16. Hey, another unemployed jersey girl here. Well I have a part-time job now but it's still not what I was bringing in before. I'm a teacher and seriously things are tough! I'm really hoping that the governor's proposal for teacher's to retire but Aug. 1st and still get their pensions/health care pans out so there's more openings next yr. If not, I have to get some other kind of job. FI has been really good but we're stressing out since we're having a house built! Thankfully we both saved a good amount of money and my parents are loaning us money. He's also a hard worker and always willing to work overtime. Still planning and spending has been stressful. I try every which way to cut costs...coupons, sales, comparable shopping. Also, our rsvps are coming in and we've already received a few wedding gifts (cash!) which has been a nice help. Good luck to all of you in the same boat!
  17. Yay!! Janine I'm so happy everything's working out for you. BTW...I think you did a great job responding to everyone's input! Slapsappyhappy- I don't know what I would do if I was in your place other than grin and bear it. Sounds like your future nephew has a special place in your FI's heart. IMO, best to suck it up and smile. At least half the guests will find the boy's antics amusing and cute. Good luck!!
  18. Hi Felicia! Welcome to the forum and congrats on your engagement. I'm a DR bride too and I went to SJU in philly!! Like Mere said, once you nail down the location the details should fall somewhat into place. This site should be very helpful considering how organized the information is. You can always search any of your questions. Good luck and enjoy your planning!
  19. Aisha- sorry to hear about Bonnet Island being out. If you're still set on a beach wedding in NJ I think you can rent out a house on the beach in LBI. I'm pretty sure I saw something about in a wedding mag. There's always Cape May. I've never been so I have no recommendations. The Skylands Manor is gorgeous!!! Good luck with your search!
  20. I made my FI start looking at shirts last night. He has mind set on a guayabera shirt. By chance I found a great pair of Perry Ellis linen pants on sale in Lord and Taylor today plus an extra 25% coupon. I hope they fit him because I got them for $38 and I would be soooo happy to have his outfit done! Now if I could only find my shoes...
  21. Hi Marisa. Congrats and welcome to the forum! Another Jersey girl here also planning my wedding in the DR. This site is amazing and should prove to be helpful in so many ways. Good luck and enjoy your planning!
  22. Since it's you and your FI attending I would say at least $100. I've been a BM before and it's a ton of money. But I always feel awkward going to a party empty handed- have you considered buying them a personalized gift for their home? Good luck with whatever you decide!
  23. Congrats and welcome! This site has so much information, it's sure to help you finalize your plans. Check out the threads for where you're getting married and don't forget to post a review when you get back. Good luck and enjoy the rest of your planning!!
