  1. Those are pretty!! I want to do fans too, just haven't gotten that far with ordering just yet.
  2. I'd think even if you had actual keys, perhaps they might fit in the key card holders, plus, the holders are also good for holding credit cards and cash, so all would not be lost, in my opinion.
  3. We were not picky at all for dates - First we had to book the flights and resort and then contact the hotel to see what they had available that we were about to use with the Cuban restrictions (3 days in the country beforehand and not on a weekend). We went with Friday, March 25, 2011 at 11:30 am and that suited us just fine.
  4. That's a cute idea. My fiancé wants his best man to have a similar shirt to his, but my sister (maid of honour) refuses to wear a dress, which is fine by me, so I want her to wear a shirt that will match my daughters' junior bridesmaid dresses. And when my best guy friend was going to stand up for (which he isn't now) I was going to have him wear a coloured shirt instead of what the guy's side is wearing.
  5. I think what I'd do is cut a piece of coloured card the same size as the tile (not sure how big they are) and write on the other info you want to include, and wrap it white tissue paper tied with a ribbon of your wedding colours and then in an envelope. I like the gift box idea too, but that would all depend on your budget too. Very cool idea, very unique!
  6. Those are very cute!! We didn't do save the dates, but I imagine my fiancé would have come up with something humorous like that! That's his style too!
  7. Bummer! Â I've asked two people now to be my maid of honour, actually, "Honour Attendant". The first was my best girlfriend. She said yes and then a few days recanted saying she and her boyfriend decided to save up for a house deposit so she couldn't come. So then I asked my best guy friend, and he said yes and then recanted because he and his wife found out they're pregnant and due within only a few weeks of our trip. Â At least they both gave me plenty of time and told me no as soon as possible. So my sister has already booked her trip so she's my back up. ( It still kinda sucks though, that my two best friends won't be there for me.
  8. Ohh that makes sense then. I guess it all adds up! I haven't thought as far as details like all that. Â It's too bad your friend doesn't see it from your perspective, but I guess if you've never done a destination wedding before, you don't know stuff like that, and just don't understand how it all works.
  9. Am I missing something? I haven't gotten very far in my planning and stuff... but why will it cost $255 for every person who attends!? That sounds crazy...... Enlighten me?
  10. I kinda wish we could have nobody. My fiancé's best friend is kinda flaky and we're now 6 days away from the deadline to book and he still hasn't. I don't know will be best man if he doesn't come, and I've now asked my two best friends to stand up for me, both of whom initially said yes, and then recanted and said they couldn't make it to Cuba. So now, I'm totally stuck on who to have stand up for me.
  11. I was browsing wedding websites from here one day and I came across someone's site where they posted all the guests who were attending their wedding, and along with each person's picture and name, they had "most likely to" statements. For example, my mom is "most likely to be playing among her grandchildren at any given moment" and my uncle Randy is "most likely to be trying to get behind the bar to mix his own drinks (for himself and everyone else!)." I TOTALLY loved that idea so I incorporated it into my own website. Now I'm just having problems coming up with statements for people so they don't all sound the same!! LOL I mean, we're going to an all-inclusive resort on a Caribbean island, most of the guests are most likely to be drunk or sun-burned. hehehe It's great fun though! I am getting a lot of feedback from my family and friends, and some who are helping me write statements for others!! Has anybody else seen the other site, or sites where a bride has done this? I totally can't find it now. Thought I bookmarked it, but apparently I did not.
  12. I was wondering about the resort photographer as well. Looking at some of the prices the photographers charge makes my eyes pop out of my head! We are paying for four of us to go there, plus the wedding package fee, plus all the other expenses the wedding will cost us. Paying that for photos seems way insane to me. One of my friends is an amateur photographer, some of hers are really nice and she loves going camera crazy. She and her husband are thinking of coming, but so far they don't know. If she comes, my problem is solved. If she doesn't, I'll be going with the resort photographer.
  13. By the way, sorry for the LONG vent, but thanks for "listening."
  14. It's amazing how utterly excited I can be about something and then a certain chain of events occur and I can manage to talk myself out of not only attending, but talking myself out of my excitement - that it's no longer a big deal and if I don't do it, who cares. I was so excited to see the HMS Bounty! It's a tall ship that is visiting Thunder Bay - it's been in a few movies, "Bounty" and "Pirates of the Caribbean" being two of them. All I'd heard was that it would be in TBay August 3 and 4. My girls were with me on the 3rd so I figured it was perfect! We (fiancé and I) could take the girls on board and we'd do that together! And I know it's kind of childish, but I knew my ex-husband would want to see it, so I was kinda smug with the fact, in my own head, that I would have that opportunity to take them to see this ship, not him. So then on Monday I found the website and then discovered that yes, it arrives in TBay on the 3rd, but they're not allowing people on board until the 4th, noon to 8pm. Well, I don't have the girls now, and my fiancé's gone out of town for work. So that craps on that idea. So then all day, I was struggling with my schedule... I work until 4:00. I have a baby appointment at 4:30 at the hospital. Do I go to the appointment first, and then go get Diesel (my dog, who's been at home alone ALL day) and go back up to the Marina, find a place to park, walk (walking's not so easy these days, being 8 months pregnant), just to take pictures of the ship from wherever I could manage to get a picture? Because Diesel will most likely not be allowed on board, and going by myself, I can't just tie him up for 20 minutes or however long so I can go on. Or, do I run home after work, take him to the hospital and leave him in the car during my appointment, and then go to the Marina? I'd hate to leave him in the car though, it's hot and humid today. I DO have to go home either way, because I need my camera. And I have nobody else to come with me. So now, I find myself convincing the rest of myself that it's not a huge deal. You're not gonna get to go on board anyway, and docked at the pier, all the sails are down, it probably isn't that fantastic, and what if you can't get close enough to get a good picture anyway because there will be SO many people there... I hate that I do that - talk myself out of something I know I was excited about. My girls and I went for groceries last night and we actually went to the Safeway across town just so we could drive by the Marina and see it docked. I was still struggling, when my niece caught me on Facebook just now and said she just got home from seeing it, but said it wasn't that cool, and the lines were SO long and there's so many people... I guess I'll just stay home, but I am still disappointed and annoyed at myself that I've just convinced myself to do that.
  15. This is TOTALLY one of my biggest pet peeves. I was going to post this as my why is it. I have started answering, "Do you want the long answer or the short answer?" (The short being "fine" and the long being the real answer whatever that might be. Why is it that when you're pregnant, EVERYBODY feels the need to ask "How are you feeling?" or more recently, "This heat must be getting to you." Really? Don't you have anything else to talk to me about?
  16. Glad to hear it all worked out and you're feeling better!!
  17. My sister's wedding was horrible€ but then, the entire guestlist was made up of our side of the family - the only "guests" of the groom were his best man and one groomsman. And I happen to know that my entire family cannot stand the groom (myself included)!! Maybe it is worth mentioning that I was the maid of honour at her wedding, the best man happened to be my ex-husband, and he was there with his girlfriend, and I was there with my fiancé. What made it WORSE is my sister didn't even tell me. My ex- told me!! And, at the reception, they made us walk in together. I tried to convince her to just have the wedding party already at the head table and she and her guy could just do the entrance. But no. So I refused to walk in arm in arm, we just walked in side by side. I'm sorry, but I would NEVER do that to anyone. My ex and I don't have an overly bad relationship (we are on good terms, but only for the sakes of our daughters), but c'mon, we're divorced and the entire wedding is made up of my family and he is the best man where I'm the maid of honour? It was definitely one wedding I was SO not excited to attend!
  18. What is VFW? It's not on that list and I came across it in a thread where it was mentioned a few times and I can't figure it out... http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/thread/38783/what-s-something-you-saw-at-a-wedding-that-made-you-swear
  19. I can see this happening to me... My bridal salon took my measurements when I was 8-10 weeks pregnant before I started showing, and we ordered one size bigger than that. However I had gained about 20 pounds from my regular plateau before I got pregnant, so once this baby's born, I have the baby weight plus about 20-30 pounds to lose. And I'm anxious to get started on that!! But I guess it's easier to take the dress in 2 sizes than to let it out 2 sizes!!
  20. Good questions. We'll have a 10 and 7 year old, and a baby about 6 months old. I never actually considered that either. Þ
  21. Thanks girls!! I'm so excited to see them all finished!!
  22. I went to a destination wedding last April 2009 at the Gran Bahia Principe Jamaica and it was beautiful!! I think it's definitely worth it as a guest to go! We booked it really really late, cuz I wasn't originally planning on going but then my boyfriend and I decided to take a trip together and he found my invite. Anyway, we weren't able to book with the wedding group and we didn't get an OOT Bag, but it was still awesome. They had arranged for the group to do an excursion together, which again, we missed cuz we arrived and therefore left earlier than the rest of the group, but we definitely want to arrange an excursion for the group for our wedding. But they didn't have TONS planned for every day which was nice. They had a couple "events" that any of their guests were welcome to attend, they just said, "this is where we'll be at this time," kind of thing, and the resort was big enough that if we chose not to attend, we could be by ourselves and enjoy our own vacation, but those that we did attend, it was just nice to be a part of the group. We also hung out with smaller groups a few times, the morning of the ceremony we hung out at the pool and pool bar with the groom's brother and his girlfriend and a time or two at the beach cafe listening to the entertainment there. The ceremony was soooo beautiful. It was in the wedding gazebo that is on the beach, so they still had the ocean as their backdrop, but it wasn't in the sand or at the mercy of passersby in Speedos etc. Their wedding definitely sealed the deal for us, when he proposed to me, there was no question that we were going to do a destination wedding.
  23. I like the hats... Actually when my fiancé went on vacation last year, he acquired a hat from somewhere with a bottle opener in the brim!! It was awesome! Something like that would be cool. I have no idea where he got it though. I'm not doing anything "big" for gifts like that. I have bottle openers for the guys and emery boards for the girls.
